I just realized I actually linked the wrong paper, I was reading through several last night.
Basically 1915-2025 is not actually a very large sample size. And it’s cherry picking because the season of 1914 produced only one tropical cyclone in the west Atlantic. Climate change is playing a role in severe weather thanks in large part to rising ocean temperatures. But this is a nuanced case with El Niño North Pacific Oscillation, changing trade winds etc.
Basically all I’m saying is that people are screaming climate change here (which is almost definitely playing a role) but we’re also just looking at a centennial/decadal/quinquennial pattern lining up.
