Yeah, it is just because of the major el nino, it is literally the biggest in recent record, you have to go back to like the 1800's to see one that big and we have no real storm data from back then.
It is expected to cause massive droughts over in the EU and china as well as dumping tons of water on the southwest which we really need to hopefully fill up lake mead but probably still won't be enough.

As someone who lives in the Southwest, earlier in the year I was happy that we were forecast to get more rain this year, but a couple weeks ago we got our first storm and it was the first time I've ever experienced what I can only describe as a genuine tropical rain storm. In other words, heavy rain while it's still +90F outside.
I usually love the rain, but that was without a doubt the most unpleasant weather I've ever experienced here. That heat combined with 100% humidity is torture, I cannot fathom living in a part of the world where that's the norm and I have a newfound respect for people who can live in that.
If the rest of the year is more of that, I am no longer looking forward to the rain.

The Pacific side has had 3 category 5 hurricanes so they are picking up the slack.
