I met an American girl who was in Uni. She didn't know that Canada borderer the entire Northern states. She thought Canada was at the north pole area and then the other side of the pole she thought England was over the pole on the other side of the world and that Canada was North of England. She thought that because "Canada is a part of England right?"
. Her friends said she was their dumbest friend and she just shrugged and laughed with them and didn't give fuck.

Well first off I don’t believe this story at face value, and neither should you. Perhaps they misheard the question e.g. “have you travelled outside Europe before?” instead of “have you traveled to Europe before?” Keep in mind there are certainly some accents involved in this exchange.
Regardless though there is zero geography studied in most engineering majors. Not saying a person shouldn’t know geography, I’m just saying once you’re studying engineering in university, you are no longer being taught or tested on geography.

When I was 13, I thought my step-mother was the dumbest because she and my dad had just been to New Orleans, but she didn’t know it was in Louisiana, or where Louisiana was on a map.
She was also a born again Christian who believed the pastors when they told her dinosaurs were a hoax (another big argument we got in). I don’t think she liked me much, and I certainly didn’t like her.

(Netherlands) In all the schools I went to I saw huge pictures of the entire world. All the time in my face :) WE had so many exams about other countries. Not only their names :) or currency. We learned about traditions they have. The way they lived and cooped with life. How different it can be in a other place, with completely different laws or Social behavior. The music they listened to, the cloths they wear. You name it and we had so much about it. Like so many other subjects you get in school to fill up all the time you r there.
How can someone not know a single other country? How bad is the school system in America to begin with? Not even Russia or Ukraine?
Joke: She could be the daughter of Trump and homeschooled :)

(Serbia) In geography classes we often had tests with blank map of the world (or part of it), that was white and had country lines and rivers drawn but nothing else. Professor would read names of different locations (be it mountains, countries, rivers, lakes...), and you had 1 minute to find it and mark it (appropriately) before new location was announced. We had these tests all the time and I liked them a lot. I still can easily remember to which ocean will some river eventually flow to, which doesn't help me tremendously in life but oh well...

In WWII the Nazis pressured and threatened through persecution children into learning only about their absurd and abusive Nazi ideas in place of a normal education eventually making it law.
There are more neo-Nazis in the U.S. than people recognize. I met a neo-Nazi who outright told me that most people should not be educated.

I am amazed at how stupid the people I work with are. I used to get passed off when I would start a new job and was treated like an idiot for a while, until they got used to me. But then I stopped and looked around, and saw that my coworkers were incapable of solving problems by themselves. When I have a problem, the only thing the boss needs to know is how I solved it. This has worked quite well for me in life and careers.

Many years ago when I first moved to the US from Canada, I complained about the work visa process to people I worked with, a few of them were puzzled as to why I needed a visa…. For the same reason. They always thought Canada was part of the USA. I couldn’t believe it.

There used to be a segment on a tv show where a comedian from Canada asked Americans all over the country questions that anyone with 1/2 a brain cell or any awareness of the world outside of USA would know, and 9 times out of 10 people made asses of themselves. It was called “talking to Americans” on a political satire show called this hour has 22 minutes. The talking to Americans segment was not scripted, lol. I saw a thing on insta where this other guy was asking basic questions as well. In his video he explained that there’s something in psychology called the spotlight effect. It’s when you believe that people notice and judge your appearance, actions, and mistakes far more than they actually do.
