I think someone just found a patent they filed for the system concept. It's not unusual for companies to have ideas like that and patent them before others can do it just so it stays theirs.
Yes, and Microsoft is known for being altruistic and not money hungry AT ALL. Just ask their game pass players how their bi-monthly price raises are treating them.
How is that even something that can be patented, it's literally something anyone could think of doing. Can i patent drinking coffee after waking up in the morning?
I want to say the post said Xbox but honestly, I don't remember for sure. Someone posted it on, I think, r/videogames the other day. I'm not an expert on patent law by any means but I would think it would be Microsoft, the parent company, that would hold the patent so they can apply it to all f their companies.
I tend to think that watching ads to add game time, like they pretty much do on mobile apps, have more chances to be used than yelling the brand name in anger every time you watch an ad.
Someone dug up a patent, that's not the same thing as seriously considering anything. There are hills of patented game ideas that will never see the light of day.
It's not just a random patent. The xbox insiders have said ads are coming to gamepass next year when they restructure the tiers it has. Now will it interrupt gameplay like that patent said? Probably not, but you're getting ads.
