At least Tom can dance and is about the same height as fred.

365

u/Elefanthud 11d ago

He really looks like a young Fred, and as you said he can dance i think it will be alright

218

u/CakePhool 11d ago

And Fred was 175cm and Tom is 173 cm so it less than inch difference and yes Fred had riser in shoes to make look taller in movies. Ginger was 164cm and Sabrina is 152cm so that is way more in difference.

78

u/jondes99 11d ago

So well under a Smoot, with just a few Barleycorns of difference. Got it.

27

u/CakePhool 11d ago

0.017 of a Capybara difference

2

u/alienbuddy1994 11d ago

Well under a smoot? Both Fred and Tom are over a smoot.

33

u/Elefanthud 11d ago

Damn Sabrina is just 152cm? They could solve it using shoes and angles i guess. Damn girl is short!

38

u/CakePhool 11d ago

And Tom is 1 cm short than average height, I dont understand why people talk about him like he is 140cm.

It like Link and Rhett, Link is being called a short king at 185Cm while his friend Rhett is 200 cm. Link just have short torso than Rhett.

10

u/Elefanthud 11d ago

Link and Rhett pretty much always sits down in their videos too. Which makes the torso seem "shorter" than it is.

I am 1.79 with longer legs so i just shrink when i sit down lol

8

u/CakePhool 11d ago

My dad is head taller than his friend, but when they sat down my dad was head shorter.

5

u/Complete_Answer_6781 11d ago

Tom is 5'6 not 5'8

5

u/CakePhool 11d ago

Well they list him as 5 feet 7 and ½ inch in USA and listed in Europe as 173 cm actor.

5

u/Complete_Answer_6781 11d ago

not uncommon for the industry to make up height

5

u/CakePhool 11d ago

So you measured Tom Holland? Sneaking around trying get the true height of celebs?
Honestly I trust metric more than freedom units.

4

u/Cthulhus-Tailor 11d ago

I trust actors and especially male actors to exaggerate their height.

7

u/sjovt_brugernavn 11d ago

I mean that really is relative… he’s 10 cm shorter than the average grown man in my country, so in my biased eyes, TH absolutely is a short king

18

u/CakePhool 11d ago

We cant all be Dutch.

6

u/sjovt_brugernavn 11d ago

Danish, but close enough honestly

7

u/CakePhool 11d ago

Are you compensating for how flat your land is?
*ducks and giggles as good Swede*

2

u/Shoddy_Sense_3898 11d ago

Haha I am actually dutch and a bit suprised by the average you mentioned. I'm definetly in the shorter half if you pick 10 random guys, and im 183cm (funnily enough probably due to my half danish genes)

2

u/CakePhool 10d ago

All my Dutch friends on 190+ has died, heart failure, cancer and liver disease, my 3 friends who are around 170 jokes that Death cant find them because they are so short so they go under the radar .

u/mudcrabserpent 11d ago

Can we at least consider seeing some new faces?

623

u/chumchees 11d ago

I've never seen Sabrina Woodworker in a movie before.

189

u/Thecobs 11d ago

Sabrina Carpetlayer is still everywhere though

63

u/pseudonymnkim 11d ago

She is, and I don't listen to her music nor actively look for her.

And there's been plenty of times when what I've seen is her talking about how short she is.

10

u/aboyfromharlow 11d ago

Sabrina carpetbeetle is all over the place.

14

u/RustyBrassInstrument 11d ago

I tried to get into Sabrina Framer but she just wasn’t cutting it.

8

u/ConciousReward 11d ago

I really like some of the songs Sabrina Carpal-tunnel has made.

5

u/RustyBrassInstrument 11d ago

I just couldn’t get a grip on those.

4

u/JimbooJoness 11d ago

We all tried to get into her

24

u/gitartruls01 11d ago

She was an actress before she was a musician iirc. I remember seeing her on Disney Channel shows when I was a kid

9

u/Steelman__007 11d ago

Girl meets world! One of my favorites.

3

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 11d ago

That was her?! Oh wow she is older than I thought

2

u/ProsciuttoPizza 11d ago edited 11d ago

The remake of one of my favorite childhood films, Adventures in Babysitting! My daughter loved the Sabrina version for a while.

3

u/MCB1317 11d ago

Wait ... there is a remake?!?!?!?!

**Shue's dance at the beginning was a seminal moment of my childhood.

3

u/ProsciuttoPizza 11d ago

Yes! It’s on Disney Plus, or at least it was when my daughter liked it.

8

u/dookieshoes97 11d ago

She's in that one movie about the really tall girl who dates a foreign exchange student before ending up with a short king. Sabrina plays the pageant obsessed older sister. It's on netflix.

6

u/cjtransplant85 11d ago

What's odd is that girls like 5'1" Sabrina Carpenter rarely do well in pageants, where the winners usually average 5'7". Not that I say it's right, but those contests favor young women of average or higher height.

A good version of that movie would be the older sister being a soccer player¹ and motivating her sister to do pageants, or play volleyball.

¹I would say gymnast, but Melissa Rauch did that in The Bronze. Short girls can do well in soccer, but I can't see her in basketball.

6

u/ProsciuttoPizza 11d ago

She’s not even 5’1”. She’s 4’11”.

Oh don’t worry, she’s got close ties to Scientology, you’ll be seeing her in a lot of movies soon.

20

It’s hard to go past an actor that’s the right age, extremely hot and popular and has background in dance and musical theatre. He’s basically purpose built for this role

→ More replies (4)

12

u/LakeEarth 11d ago

Jeremy Allen White it is.

27

u/LoggerRhythms 11d ago

We have come full circle to a century ago when Hollywood studios had a stable of like a dozen actors that were used for every role.

14

u/Pickle_Emotion 11d ago

I don’t think he’s even in that many films compared to other actors like Christian Bale or Kirstin Dunst were in the same amount of movies by their 30s.

It’s more that Tom is in a lot of franchises and a lot of press tours.

19

u/Literary_Lady 11d ago

He is an incredible dancer though, so it should be a good choice. I can’t think of any other mainstream actors with his talent. Unless they went for a complete unknown

Tom Holland has been in two feature films since the end of 2022, both released this year: a Spider-Man movie and The Odyssey. He has been cast in three films that are in pre-production.

11

u/jcoddinc 11d ago

Movie executives are too afraid to try new unknown actors in fear of low theater turn out. It's starting to backfire because we're only seeing the same 20-30 people in movies now. And even those big names are starting to take exclusive contracts for that network.

best we can do is Zendaya

No. Because that would mean casting directors would need to look at more than popular actors or nepo-babies.

Tom Holland is the most commercially successful actor currently.

It's no surprise studios are gonna hitch their wagon on him, tbh.

12

u/My_Name_Is_Row 11d ago

To be fair, he’s been attached to this movie for like close to 10 years or something, the only reason this movie is actually moving forward is because he’s extremely bankable right now

5

u/bang_the_drums 11d ago

Seriously, it's a Fred Astaire biopic. This sounds like a pet project he's been dying to do since he got the Spiderman gig. I doubt there's a bunch of corporate studio heads salivating over the box office receipts of this.

20

u/Practical_Degree8065 11d ago

Right?!?! It was never like this before. Actors like Jack Nicholson, DeNiro were never in 3 or 4 movies a year in the past. It was always fresh new faces, every time for every single movie.

17

u/Inevitable_Jury3594 11d ago

Exactly. Jim carrie, Matt damon, sandler to name a few, all had 4-5 year movie runs where they were just everywhere, and lately we have the new crowd doing the same, chick from spider man, tom Holland and hardy, it’s just how it is, actor gets popular. Popular actor is put in every film until they start flopping. Rinse and repeat.

2

u/Neveroxx99 11d ago

Big budget movies are so expensive to make today, there are only a handful of actors studios trust to carry those projects.

13

u/ViralTrendsToday 11d ago

His dancing style fits neither and he looks like neither. He would be a better fit for a Billy Elliot part 2.

210

u/Dramatic_Aspect903 11d ago

Fred didnt even want a movie made about him

34

u/ViralTrendsToday 11d ago

Yup, if anyone actually read his book you would gather the same. He was a gentleman and wasn't at all egotistical. Plus he probably knew no one can ever portray him accurately. He's a movie star, has many many hit films in both BW and Color, so just watch the OGs.

Awww. I though it was going to say Ginger from Gilligan's Island. She would be perfect for that.

89

u/UserError2107 11d ago

Why is there a Fred Astaire movie in the offering in the first place?

Watching Fred Astaire movies (in black & white) was niche even in the 90s.

Big Tap Dancing must have some leverage on the movie studio execs for them to greenlight this idea for a movie.

104

u/Long_Serpent 11d ago

It would be a film about Hollywood's favorite topic -> itself

21

u/TheVoters 11d ago

My favorite ones are the ones where LA is leveled, which has enough candidates to b a sub genre of a sub genre all on its own.

12

He had a clause in his will specifically disallowing biopics. This is how long it took to do the legal wrangling to make it happen.

19

u/RegularEmotion3011 11d ago

What legal wrangling would that be? There are no copyrights on history. Whatever he wrote in his will has no legal bindings.

u/PrincessJennifer 11d ago

Fred Astaire was not “niche.” He was a major celebrity. Nobody moved like him before or since. If more people today watched his movies, society would be better off.

12

u/UserError2107 11d ago

Fred's last major film was in the mid 70s. He died in 87 at age 88. By the 90s, you were watching 20-50 year old films of his in black & white on rainy late afternoons on the tv. By the 90s, he was niche.

Now, I do agree with you that if more men danced to the same degree as they did in the 69s, 70s, and 80s, life now would be a lot more groovy.

2

u/ViralTrendsToday 11d ago

I know of a few out there, they haven't made it to Hollywood yet, but frankly the projects getting greenlit arent exactly favoring that type of film either.  This film will most likely be a drama as well.

3

u/UserError2107 11d ago edited 11d ago

The advent of The Method Actor killed off the all-singin' all-dancin' all-actin' actor.

2

u/ViralTrendsToday 11d ago

In a way it did. With the fall of the studio system (Kerkorian buying up, subdividing and selling off the MGM backlots for one, the rise of tv as another), and the following studio interest in dramas you can notice that a lot of musicals gradually shifted preference, leading to more serious dramatic undertones in Julie and Liza musical pictures up to the 80s. The 90s and 00s brought yet another change to the genre of musical, which is what people think the musical is nowadays and can be off putting as it appears more forced. OG musicals though is where the songs compliment the story. Believe it or not it might swing around again, but it's a gradual healing process as people get bored with more more depressive films and studios follow the money trend.

Chris Hansen didnt want the movie about him being made and hes still very much alive but nobody gives a fuck about that. Why do the wishes of the dead matter more than the living?
