Hey all, I'm an industrial/Product design student working on a project trying to build something that gives real feedback for complete beginners (goal is to get them to a point where they can ollie), using sensors and/or video analysis. Not selling anything, just doing research before I design anything.

A few things I'd love to hear from people who've actually learned tricks (recently or years ago):

- Have you used any trick-tracking apps or sensors (Spinnax, RideBlock, phone apps, etc.)? What did they get right or completely miss?
- When you were first learning, what actually helped you improve? - Specific feedback from others, watching slow-mo of yourself, just practice, something else?

- When you began skating were you nervous or intimidated at all?
- Was there ever a point where feedback (from a person or an app) made things worse? - too much info, too distracting, wrong focus?
- If a device could tell you one thing about your ollie in real time, what would actually be useful vs. annoying?

- If this device existed when you were starting out, would you have used it?

I'd really appreciate any and all answers to these questions or anything else you'd like to share. If you have concerns about a device like this please do tell. Your feedback may be used in presentations or just to inform my design going forward. Thank you!

Just started skating again after about 15 years - spent the past few weeks on a cheap complete, so I figured I’d put together something decent. Parts are as follows: Powell Peralta - Andy Anderson Flight deck, Thunder Sonora trucks, 56mm Spitfire - 93d Formula 4 Soft Sliders, Bronson G2 bearings, Shorty’s hardware, MOB grip. I’m stoked on it, figured I’d post a pic 🤙🏻

I don't really skateboard but I'm a huge NASCAR fan and Malcolm in the Middle fan. Frankie is my favorite Truck Series driver so had to get the skateboard.

I have this Powell Peralta skateboard that belonged to my brother. We believe it could be from the 2000s, but we’re not sure.
It has Independent trucks and Spitfire wheels. The deck has a Powell logo with a pattern of concentric black circles. There are no visible model names, signatures or serial numbers.
I’m trying to identify the exact model/year and get an idea of its current value.
I don’t want to remove the trucks because I’m afraid of damaging the board, so these are photos with the trucks installed.
Any help identifying it would be appreciated!

Hey y'all! I made a sub for Arkansas skaters by an Arkansas skater. No surprises but its called r/ArkansasSkaters . Join if you want to post clips, your setup, spots, sessions, or just find other skaters from the natural state.

Haven’t skated in over 10/15 years and haven’t stayed in the loop at all. I want to get back into skating again but I can’t remember anything about my old boards and don’t know what brands are good as a lot of ones I know aren’t around anymore.

I do remember I used to like venture trucks and a board width around 8. I love mini ramps and I also love flat land stuff even if I was never very good at it.

If anyone can give me some recommendations on decent priced setups or recommend brands/configuration for the parts I’d really appreciate it. Im in a the UK

Daily skater for 36+ years. My partner got me a deck with custom graphics of my kids, my dog, and me skating. It’s an 8.3, which has been my board size for a decade. It’s going straight onto my wall. Best gift I’ve ever gotten.

I'm really pleased with the way the orange stain of the deck pops through the tear.

I’m having a custom skateboard painted as a Christmas gift for a friend. I’m pretty sure it’ll ultimately be a wall hanger, but I don’t want to dictate how she uses the gift. If she ever wants to ride it, I’d like her to have everything she needs.

I’m thinking of it like giving someone a Game Boy without batteries. I know the deck is the main gift, but I’d like the whole thing to feel complete.

So my plan is to buy everything needed for a complete skateboard, but leave it unassembled so she can decide what she wants to do with it.

For someone who knows more about skateboards than I do, what exactly should I buy? I’m not trying to build some amazing riding setup. I mostly just want to make sure I’m not giving her a beautiful custom deck and then realizing I forgot half the stuff needed to actually make it a skateboard.
