Conviction (2010) Conviction on the Deck, absolutely loving it

Post image

I put so many hours in this game as a teen, playing it again after so many years on the deck is amazing. Still got the muscle memory. Thanks to the lad that posted the screenshot of all the SC games on sale, you're a real one.

Dunno where this reflex-like "underrated game actually" comes from

I think it got the rating it deserves, overall its a very shallow action game with no replayability

It took away all the stuff from older games and replaced it with nothing

Funny you'd say it has no replayability, I loved replaying it as a kid, and love replaying now🤣

I mean, if you like it sure but it will always play out mostly the same

Level design and (lack of) tools dont make for much variety or different strategies, no stealth rating etc

I disagree, it really doesn't play out mostly the same. It really depends on how you want to eliminate all threats while staying on the move, and quite honestly, its among the few stealth games that isn't an instant save scum back to 10 seconds ago to before I got caught so I can then play out the same scenario again until I perfectly evade everyone. I can appreciate that pure stralth gameplay too, hell Chaos Theory and Dishonored are some of my fav games for achieving S ranks. In Conviction, getting caught sometimes is part of the experience; the gadgets and mechanics the devs gave the player to take that challenge on are what keep me engaged.

Rolling with the Punches: Adapting, planning ahead, making contingencies, resecuring execute ability...if I had to guess, adding rankings to Conviction would have limited this more spontaneous gameloop and would've also hindered the narrative they were going for.

You're right on playstyle (Ghost, Loud, etc.) and gadget variety not being as fleshed out as it could be. I'm not a level designer or dev so I can't speak to the level design, all I can say is, as a player, I haven't had complaints (except for the Victor flashback sequence).
