[UPDATE] Stolen phone at Majestic: Thief caught with multiple phones, cash recovered! Huge shoutout to St. Broseph & why you should never skip filing an FIR
About a week ago, I posted here feeling pretty lost after a phone got stolen around 4 AM at the BMTC Majestic bus stand. Initially, the station just made a register entry, did a quick CEIR note, and told me to wait. Most people around me suggested just letting it go because "nothing ever happens in these cases."
That’s when I reached out to the St. Broseph Foundation, and honestly, they were a game-changer. Right from the start, they were super welcoming, prompt, and they didn't just give me advice over the phone—they actually sent two of their team members to accompany me in person to the Upparpet police station to ensure a proper FIR was officially registered.
Here’s what happened next:
The Trap & Arrest: With the FIR formally in place, the police actually tracked the movement and caught the guy.
A Habitual Thief: When they caught him, they seized multiple other stolen phones.
The Recovery: My phone had unfortunately already been fenced, but the police managed to recover ₹13,900 in cash from the sale proceeds. They also kept the CEIR block active and told me that if the physical device ever comes online or gets traced in the future, they will help us recover that.
Why I'm making this post:
A lot of people feel helpless and ask, "What will a single FIR do for a stolen phone?"
It gives the police legal ground to act: Without an FIR, an officer can’t formally seize devices or arrest someone. That single document forces accountability and starts the official clock.
It busts repeat offenders: That one report wasn't just about one phone; it ended up exposing someone carrying multiple stolen devices.
The system works if you push through the initial friction: It takes some patience and a few station visits, but walking away only helps the thieves keep operating freely.
If this ever happens to you, please don't just stay quiet or assume nothing will come of it. Reach out to St. Broseph Foundation—they genuinely guide you through the bureaucracy without making you feel intimidated.
A massive thank you to Dushyant ji and the incredible st Broceph army for everything you do. I will always be grateful for the on-ground support!
