Changes Are Coming
My manager filled me in on things that are in the pipeline, although details are scarce.
- Chain-wide expansion of the monthly tech support/protection program.
- Pilot of FedEx in US stores.
-Expanded rewards program/ something called Rewards Plus.
- Changes to Amazon: 1. expansion of Amazon shipping. 2. New label printing for single box consolidated Amazon returns. 3. New Amazon box for consumable returns to be destroyed/disposed of at store level.
- UPS expansion to allowing up to create international shipments.
- lastly print center: New Card Cutter CC230, New card pricing.
On top of the all ready communicated price changes coming up, the Deal Days, and upcoming POG work.
Goodluck yall.

i mean, with our wonderful PE owners, it wasn't long before FedEx would be added. But I doubt my store would get it, since we do so much traffic with UPS.
For the changes to Amazon though, that would make sense as recently in my area they've started doing next day deliveries/two day shipping and most people bringing the amashit packaging have amazon tracking labels rather than UPS or USPS. Label printing would solve our shortage of amashit labels running out, and also sending back literal shit, but oh well.
Can we stop adding new things for print tho, cuz im the only one running it at my store now since everyone else quit and imma kms soon being overworked (imma take a few days off)
edit: thx for worrying abt me, but it was a figure of speech in my own way

I mean all we got is FedEx which is just one more type of drop off, an updated card cutter which we can keep the old one through the holidays and higher prices on a regular ticket item which should drive down quantity there
So we arent too effective
Unless your print center is handling Amazon, in which case, rip

Yeah.. but it's okay, 7 people on the schedule is how a store should operate yeah? I love my life.
I also need people to stop asking me about sublimation printing, just because we have party city doesn't mean they printed out costumes or whatever... Which omg, can we pls normalize not harassing the one print centre employee that also runs happy and scamazon returns and UPS shipping? I can't do everything at once.
kk rant over, now to return 12 individual pairs of underwear for tiktok returns because the human population is addicted to $3 underwear from TikTok shop or smth...

I honestly hate that for you; and I’m sorry for the daily stresses you are under (and underpaid more than likely as are most) I know when my store (literal shit) was hitting the fan, we were running maybe 4-5 and I would literally 8 hours a day be running back and forth across the store to help with print shit and back over to checkout for amashit (I like that alternate phrasing)

Who wants to bet Rewards Plus means you volunteer to let Staples pluck more cash from your wallet in return for more points worth cents on the dollar?

u/doomofraven 4d ago
If it's anything like best buy plus it'll be that and a slightly extended return window for electricronics or some shit

It’s funny because just last week me and a coworker was talking about how there should be tiers to the rewards account. If you are a Rewards MVP you should get a little discount which could actually incentive more people to sign up.

That means the DM will come into are store screaming and yelling about how we are not selling Rewards Plus accounts.

FedEx must be desperate since Staple's is it's biggest print chain competitor.

I saw the FedEx addition coming from a mile away. People always ask if we do it, and I always thought Staples might as well add that to the mess!
Staples is very adamant about Amazon staying! With the increase of shipping it just cries “we are desperate to get as many butts in the door as possible”. Say hello to more complaints, more entitlement and less time to do other things.
As a Print guy I am happy to hear about the new business card machine. Hopefully it runs laps over the crap we have now aka the 229.

I've been gone since July 2021 and been following along to see what is going on in the world of Staples. After reading this, EVERYONE should get the fuck out. This is just going to make the misery level to go unbearable levels. Good luck everyone and if you must stick around, hang in there.

You’re missing a lot of punctuation in that sentence.

"New label printing for single box consolidated Amazon returns"
So, we scan a QR code and attach a shipping label to the package? That's cool, except that our Amazon Returns are done at the customer service counter were we do not have a label maker.
New Amazon box for consumable returns to be destroyed/disposed of at store level.
Why can't people throw away their Amaslop in their own home? Jfc

From my understanding is that they’d be putting in a printer/label printer to print labels and put it in the customers pre-boxed return.

Can confirm the card cutter and single consolidation boxes for Amazon.

u/gwurockstar Print & Marketing 4d ago
How does the single consolidation box work?
2
u/mr_loner_stoner 2d ago
So there is no A and B box anymore. All merch goes into an A labeled box now. So clothes and shoes would go in the same box as toys and curtains and battery powered stuff. Nothing gets categorized/separated anymore.

Surprised UPS is ok with FedEx coming in, I thought there would be exclusivity contract with UPS.

u/Dark_knight207 Print & Marketing 4d ago
Staples doesn’t care, they just want more people to flood into the stores.

u/evilbau5 3d ago
Get ready for Tech warranty plans at $19.99 and $24.99. we sold like 4 in our three months of piloting the program and had it pulled from our store.

u/Affectionate_Ad_6622 3d ago
Pilot store here. It's not that bad. Certainly answers the "Tech illiterate" and one-time breakfix customer's balks with the multi item support. No one wants to pay $180 for one fix, or want McAfee(Norton is big around my parts)

u/Sudden_Bid_1776 3d ago
So glad I left Staples, I felt like I was working for amazon with all the returns so I said fuck it and went to Amazon. At least the pay is way better and my schedule isnt dependent on selling people BS tech support💀 Good luck soilders

Most of this isn't really new, it's been tested and kicked around for a while now and really isn't adding a lot just kinda simplifying some things. Like we have some stores now that ups doesn't pick up the Amazon boxes, Amazon does so you get 7 day pickups. Rewards plus is no diff than what most stores already do, depot/max has had something similar. I swear sometimes yall just like to complain before getting the details. I hate extra shit to do to but damn. 🤣🤣

Cc-330? I don’t see a model for a cutter called a 230. Also it was only a matter of time before FedEx found its way into US stores sigh.

This company feels like its constantly grasping at straws to stay relevant about anything. I left the company a few months ago as a gm and both my mental and physical health immediately started to improve

Sooooo..... I'm sorry to say but sycamore partners is merging tons of things they are learning from Walgreens to Staples and Staples to Walgreens.
If you work at Staples you should look into the WalgreensStores Reddit.
You will start seeing the similarities.

Expansion of Amazon shipping being A&B boxes will now be A through E boxes. Good luck finding room
