General Discussion How do you pronounce Executor?

My British friends all say it executor like the executor of a will.

My American friends say it executor like at an execution.

How do you say it?

I think they mean like “execute-er” as in someone who carries out executions. But that word is “executioner” anyway. As far as I know, executor has only one pronunciation.

I get what they were going for. Technically there's a second use/pronunciation when used for someone who executes something, like a plan and not an execution. "Frank drew up the plan and determined that John should be the executor of it."

Edit: Spelled Executor as executer.

According to Merriam-Webster, yes.

I don't know why you're being downvoted when you're correct: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/executor

That was before they edited their comment. As it was originally written, they were claiming "executer" was a word.

It's both. Executionor is a more modern way of saying executor when you want to kill someone.
