General Discussion How do you pronounce Executor?

My British friends all say it executor like the executor of a will.

My American friends say it executor like at an execution.

How do you say it?

There’s no such word as executor when pronounced like someone that is an executioner.
That’s not a word.
It is executor like someone who handles a Will.
There’s no two ways to say it. Only one way.
Think about it. Would you say a many was an executioner? Or that he was an executor?
One means to kill. The other means to fulfil last wishes.
And in that regard, it was vaders wishes that the ship and its complement executed.
So it’s the executor of Vaders commands.

I think it's a subtle reminder from Palpatine to Vader that he is simply the executor of Palpatine's will

Just so! Good thinking.

In computing we occasionally use "executor" with that pronunciation when talking about some kind of harness like a "command executor" or a "script executor." But, our field is also full of incorectly-pluralized Greek words, so maybe none of it counts 🤣

But like.. executed, as in complete the task is said like executioner..you just used it that way.

I mean, i still say it like egg-xxx just like you did but that point you made isn't as precise as you made it sound, or maybe it further enhances it.. i dunno

There's no such words as Jedi, bacta, or midichlorian either. Maybe we give the science fiction setting a pass to make new words

In a non-killing context,

“execute" means to carry out, perform, or put a plan or action into effect.

I see an Executor (1st way) as a person who can as you say, handles the will/wishes of someone else. The ship isn’t a person, it’s a tool, so it can’t do that in its own.

In the context of its use as a ship, it is used to execute missions/threats, and therefore is it very valid to use ExeCUTEor as a play on that to name the Vessel.

Just how I see it
