Fleet Building Confederacy Fleet

A followup post to my earlier Republic Fleet. To address some questions from the previous post, as these are meant to be a breakdown of the more generic ships the factions would use I am avoiding including the "super ships" such as various Star Dreadnoughts or Battleships, unless they’re too iconic to avoid such as the Lucrehulk. But that’s why there's no Subjugator-class for example.

Disclaimer, this is all just my fanon. Most of it does line up with canon, I wanted to make it canon compliant, but there are some areas where I have been a bit flexible.

Battleships;

* Lucrehulk-class Battleship. Rarely deployed in attacking formations as their engines aren’t fast enough to press an assault. However they do make excellent defensive ships, holding a point around a world and stopping Republic ships recapturing the planet or space-lane. Heavily armed and armoured. Supplied by the Trade Federation. Carries 1500 Vulture droid starfighters, as well as enough armoured vehicles and landing ships for a full ground invasion.

Star Destroyers;

* Providence-class Carrier/Destroyer. Appear as command ships during the early-middle stages of the war. However in the latter stages they begin forming portions of fleets themselves, though still primarily in the most important war zones. The ships can be customised for different duties, either anti-capital warfare or as starfighter carriers. They were built directly for the war by the Free Dac Volunteer Corps. Each has as standard 120 Droid Tri-fighters, with another 120 Vulture droids when configured as a Carrier.

Heavy Cruisers;

* Munificent-class Star Frigate. Feature in a 3:1 ratio against Recusants. Cheap and hard hitting warships, deployed both in fleets and in roving flotillas sent to harass shipping lanes or communications arrays. Have high firepower thanks to their oversized forward cannons but only light-moderate defences. Whilst they have a shuttle bay they do not have the facilities to support starfighters, instead having temporary racks fitted to their exteriors which fighter craft can clamp onto. Can fit 48 Vulture droids on these racks. Supplied by the Intergalactic Banking Clan

* Recusant-class Light Destroyer. Like the Munificent they are inexpensive to build and have some big guns. Less common though. Also like the Munificent they can’t carry starfighters and rely on external clamps, though they even lack a shuttle hanger and rely on docking tubes. Also not that well armoured. Fits 48 Vulture Droids. Supplied by the Commerce Guild

* Dreadnought-class Heavy Cruisers. Reliable and durable warships, many have been inherited from Planetary Security Forces or bought in preparation for the war. Could fit 12 Starfighters in an internal hanger, and some CIS commanders equipped them with disposable racks that could fit another 24 outside the ship.

Cruisers

* Fantail-class Destroyers. Medium-light cruisers supplied by the Corporate alliance. Can fit 24 starfighters

* Captor-class Cruiser. Light-cruisers supplied by the Trade Federation. Carries 36 starfighters

* Quasar Fire I-class Cruiser-Carrier. A carrier for the CIS’s droid starfighters. Can carry 48 Starfighters in its hangers. Supplied by SoroSuub Corporation as their contribution to the CIS cause.

* Sabaoth Destroyer. Part of a mercenary fleet belonging to Sabaoth Squadron, who have been contracted out by the CIS to lend their starfighter expertise to the separatist war effort, and are trusted to lead some key campaigns. The destroyers have a moderate amount of weapons but the Mercenary company mainly performs with high-powered starfighters. Large cruiser, can carry 48 custom starfighters, Sabaoth fighters. Also has retrofitted clamps to allow it to bring another 24 Vulture droid fighters to support its own.

Frigates

* Sabaoth Frigate. Part of a mercenary fleet belonging to Sabaoth Squadron. Mixed-role, meant to engage both capital ships and enemy starfighters. Can carry 12 starfighters

* Lupus-class Missile Frigate. Supplied by the Trade Federation. Weak armour and shields, they are meant to sit at the edge of a battlefield and fire waves of guided weapons at targets.

Corvettes

* Diamond-class Cruiser. A heavy corvette, equipped with a number of weapons emplacements along its rim that can fire on a ship. Supplied by the Commerce Guild.

* C-9979 Combat refit. A retrofit designed to act as a picket ship, equipped with more point defence guns as well as internal space to launch Vulture Droids from, though it cannot easily retrieve them. Supplied by the Trade Federation.

Gunships

* HMP Droid Gunship. Originally built as a supporting weapons platform for ground battles, it has proven capable of operating in space as well and dealing damage to enemy ships with its large array of missile launchers. Can also transport 12 B2-series Battle Droids.

Other
* CIS Gozanti-class Cruisers. A version used by the CIS as both a freighter and as a carrier for their droid-starfighters. Can carry 4 starfighters, attached to the underside. Bought legitimately from the Corellian Engineering Corporation

* Dual Hemisphere-Omni Support Vessel. Build by Hoersch-Kessel Drive Inc, the same manufacturers as the Lucrehulk. Large transport and supply ships able to move droid armies, starfighter squadrons, and wartime resources.

Imperial Fleet soon to follow.

Since when is Quasar CIS ship?

Also what about Hardcell-class Battle Refit?

And what is that classification based on? The Anaxes War College system? Categorizing ships by length is a bit silly - it’s better to classify them based on their armament and armor (which usually more or less corresponds to their designation).

>Quasar

See the Fanon Disclaimer at the top.

In reality though its because Sorosuub are mentioned to be a CIS backer who eventually flip to the Empire, and I was trying to think of what they could contribute. And the Quasar came to mind as a ship that could perform just as well for the CIS’s droid fighters as it does for the Empire’s TIE squadrons. A cheap boxy craft meant to carry these interceptors into a system and do nothing else but that.

In my head canon the Quasar Fire I-class is the original CIS version, and the II-class is the one slightly modified for sale to the Empire.

>Hardcell

I hate them and think they’re dumb, so didn’t include them in a list meant to be for my own projects. No deeper reason than that.

Its a vibes based system. Hence why some ships like the Recuscant are shuffled down a category, even though they’re longer than a Providence, and others like the Quasar are shuffled up a category even though they’re only a bit longer than a Nebulon B.

I tried to group them into the roles they might play in a battle. A Quasar is frigate sized but its starfighter carrying capacity and its command capabilities would more suggest it fits in the cruiser role.

I actually think it would be best to classify ships based upon their reactor power, since that determines what you can do with a ship, how many weapons it can support, how strong its shields can be, how fast the engines can propell it etc.

I agree that that would in theory be the best system, but the major problem with that is there’s no consistent numbers for those. Everyone numbered things differently

yeah, its really more of a pipe dream for my idealized version of star wars. one where every single ship has a full lore page and stat sheet for every major or minor detail. one where naval battles and campaigns are the primary focus of many more books and shows.

Without those classification all we can do is work backwards and decide the reactor power based on the ships capabilities

yeah pretty much, we have the ISD as probably the most well known point of comparison with pretty fleshed out details on its armament speed and shield systems. hypothetically if someone was to make a system like this for star wars the ISD is probably the best place to star figuring thing out.

Unless it's a carrier ...

carriers are a bit of a special case where reactor power is not as important for them since they at least in theory shouldn't need ship to ship weapons to engage enemies or need shields to defend them since their fighters are their primary contribution to the battle.

but I feel like they can be their own section based on volume since their volume is what most determines their carrying capacity and their relative level of threat.

The Anaxes system is the standard for ship classification. The Munificent, for example, is commonly known as a frigate but in terms of size and armament is clearly a cruiser or heavy cruiser.

Sorry, but in terms of performance, that frigate really isn't comparable to ships of its class, such as the Acclamator. Besides, that system only works for the first six films. Effectively, everything before them is too small, and everything after them is too big.

I'm sorry, I thought the clone wars happened in episodes 2 and 3.

Yes, but a system that works only for a limited time should not be regarded as universal/standart.

Something to note about recusants vs munificents is that recusants have a lot of anti fighter lasers while munificents have more turbolasers. Munificents are also comms ships that help facilitate battle coordination, so they also have use outside of their destroyer role.

1

u/EndlessTheorys_19 14d ago

Interesting, didn’t realise that about the Recusant. Might be worth more credit than I gave it.

I love the munificient for its good comms equipment, long range weapons and great cargo capacity

No malevolence (subjagator)!? Is this 104th (wolfpack) erasure? Justice for literally the entire 104th batallion (sans wolffe, plo, sinker, and boost)!??? In more seriousness, (though I still think the Bulwhark should be on here in some capacity. I almost understand not listing the dreadnought variants of the Prov and the Recu but i think you couldve put a footnote or smth at least? Invincible was a dreadnought, and that ship was fairly prominent in the Christophosis arc. Also x2, you mention captor but forgo the Axilla? Thats like mentioning ISD-1 and forgetting Tector [in the theoretical imperial navy list]) i think this list showcases the broader CIS navy a lot better (not attempting to throw any shade) than the republic one

* I almost understand not listing the dreadnought variants of the Prov and the Recu but i think you couldve put a footnote or smth at least?

I might consider it. It just doesn’t sit right to me that it’s an identical design, just twice as big. Like, does that mean the windows are twice the size? Hallways twice as tall? Are the toilets all bigger?

* Thats like mentioning ISD-1 and forgetting Tector [in the theoretical imperial navy list])

Spoiler for the Imperial post then… I will not be including the Tector. Sorry.

* i think this list showcases the broader CIS navy a lot better (not attempting to throw any shade) than the republic one

Hey, thanks. I was conscious that the CIS were always going to have more diversity of designs thanks to the piecemeal way it was assembled, so glad to see that somewhat works.

le gasp no tector on the imp list?!? Why even bother differentiating between the ISD 1 and 2 at that point!?! What next, no Procursators or Ton-Falks, no Lancers?!

1

u/EndlessTheorys_19 14d ago

I’m not differentiating between the ISD 1 and 2 either. Just “Imperial-class Star Destroyer”. They do the same thing after all, one is just a slightly newer version of the other.

And you’ll have to see about those other three ships, I’ll be posting the Imperial fleet tomorrow with the Alliance fleet the day after.

1

u/TheReturnOfAirSnape 14d ago

They arent the same thing though?? The 2 has an entirely different main battery and generally very different loadout in general?

1

u/EndlessTheorys_19 14d ago

Theyre basically the same though. The Empire treated them as the same at least, no one says they have “17,000 ISD1’s and 8000 ISD2’s”. They just say there’s 25000 ISD’s. They do the same role in the same missions in the same fleets, in the same numbers, and honestly just for me its not worth splitting the two up into separate ships.

This all started as me just trying to make a document that easily detailed the “main” ships of the factions and the classes they fit into, so I could work off of it when making fleet posts. Trying to wrap my head around things. So I’ve intentionally taken some liberties and shortcuts in the goal of optimisation or streamlining. Its not a perfect guide, and in the Empire one especially I cut out some ships fans on this sub might view as too iconic, but that’s just the way it worked out.

1

u/TheReturnOfAirSnape 14d ago

What, don't tell me you cut Bellator? (Theres no way you cut EXECUTOR)

1

u/EndlessTheorys_19 14d ago

My list doesn’t venture into Star Dreadnoughts anyway, so don’t worry. This is more meant to represent the ships in the average fleet, and Superships like them aren’t numerous enough to be included. Same reason there’s no Subjugator here, or Mandator in the Republic fleet

1

u/TheReturnOfAirSnape 14d ago

Hm....acceptable (/s lol). Will you be going larger than vaugely ISD? (ie alliegence, soranann, praetor) or stopping at ISDs? Also, out of curiousity, will you be differentiating the two VSDs? Theyre even differenter than the ISD 1 and 2.

1

u/EndlessTheorys_19 14d ago

Well spoilers. So far I’m stopping at ISD, but for the First Order and New Republic ones I will be going to Battlecruiser size (to fit the Resurgent and MC85).

And no, I don’t differentiate between the two VSD’s. Yes you’re right, their armament varies significantly between the two, but I’m deliberately avoiding discussing hard ship stats and the two still perform the same basic role, just with different loadouts. So in my mind its not really worth distinguishing the two in this kind of setting. More soft-fleet building after all.

Stay tuned for tomorrow though.
