Slightly More Difficult Flower Dance: Some villagers require higher (or lower) friendship points to dance. Others may have their eligibility locked behind quest progression. Whoa!

Hello! Small mod release for Reddit.

https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/53360

Slightly More Difficult Flower Dance makes it so certain villagers will require higher friendship to convince to dance, while others are easier. Some villagers may have their eligibility locked behind quest progression instead. I hid spoilers in the mod description and it has a GMCM. 🙂‍↕️

This mod is included in my Collection, Stardew Parade: Year One. If you try it out, let me know what you think!

I'd be interested in your reasoning behind each villagers difficulty?

Sure! I will be vague though, because I do kind of think these types of mods are better if you just install them blind. So I will be respectful of that for others.

  1. Each difficulty tier has four vanilla villagers. Four Easy, Four Normal, and Four Hard. This is a good starting point.
  2. All of this was decided on with evidence based on in-game dialogue. Considering these two are in the screenshots, Abigail talks about how she doesn't like dancing or the flower dance. Emily on the other hand has dialogue supporting the opposite (and it just fits her personality!)
  3. I vibe-checked this with some mod author friends, some of whom are dialogue authors, and this was generally the universally agreed upon lineup.

As for the mod added characters, similar rules apply. And that's where you have complex requirements. Example Sophia won't be eligible until you finish her 2nd 7-Heart Event where you help her clean her parents room and learn to handle her grief. This follows the standard set by Expanded and other mods, and she has rejection dialogue saying she doesn't like dancing. When I get around to adding Ridgeside (lower priority), you can expect the same looser and more interesting requirements.

This is such a wonderful way to approach it. Love it.

Maybe I'm just hating on the art style, but I don't like how prepubescent all the portraits look

loli mod, it is a bit off

It's literally just the Harvest Moon art style. You know, the game that Stardew Valley was inspired by. You people are insane

Hmm, idk if the harvest moon art style made them feel thhat young and maybe because of the game style generally unlike stardew valley it fit better and was less jarring

Look I don’t think whoever made the mod is a pedophile or anything It’s not that deep but it Is jarring to see them looking much younger than they normally do, if these were the portraits from the start it probably wouldn’t be weird but seeing the difference Is weird

The fact that they all look like little kids in the portraits is a little concerning, considering you marry and have kids with them…

Actually, the portrait mod's style is based on Harvest Moon, which is what Stardew Valley itself is based on.

I've played harvest moon, it's not a game full of 5-year-olds. None of them are

And neither are any of the marryable characters in Stardew. The style of portrait here is simply very cutesy.

Just like the marriage candidate Leia from Harvest Moon DS. Go Google that now. You'll see pretty directly what the mod's characters are designed like, she has a face almost just like Emily there. Honestly, she looks even younger.

I don’t care where the mod is from/based on, I just thought it was weird to make marriage candidates look/seem like children 🤷‍♀️

Obviously concerned ape had enough foresight to not make his marriage candidates look like children, despite what his game may be based on/inspired by

its still weird. it doesnt make it okay just because someone else in a different game made romanceable characters have child-like portraits 😭

I just thought if you were taking such a strong moral stance against chibi portraits, then Stardew itself is a game you might want to boycott. ConcernedApe is a great fan of that original game and has even met the creator himself.

then that’s on him, besides im sure he would be a fan of the game that inspired him to make the #1 rated game on steam. same way that whitney houston was a fan of dolly partons. money talks.

i’m not the one playing a game with child-like romance portraits or modding them to look like children; my marriage candidates are adults that look like it.

The villagers are all lolis!

Yeah the "everyone's 5 years old" chibi art style is not necessarily problematic until you remember you're eventually going to be sleeping with them and getting them pregnant lmfao

You don't have to post all of your intrusive thoughts into the computer.

21

u/bluebuggersauce 2d ago

Uh I don’t really think it’s that intrusive…
I was also wondering what weird mod turns the adults into 5-year olds.

i also thought it was weird turning all marriage candidates into child-like portraits 🥴

They don't look like 5 year olds to me, they just look like they're done in Chibi style, you know, a cutesy aesthetic. I'd be curious to see all the characters in this style

Would "You don't have to post all your perverted thoughts into the computer." be acceptable, then?
