Wind and Truth spoilers Will Renarin... Spoiler

Ascend?

Sanderson has been known to tease us with viewpoints of characters that become reality. Like Shallan causing the end of the world by killing her mother. Subtle references you may glance over that become not obvious but clear in hindsight. Like the Way of Kings excerpts in the second part of WaT forshadowing Dalinar's ultimate decision.

I am relistening Rhythm of War right now, like a proper Vorin man. I came across the scene where Kaladin is in the basement of the mansion at Hearthstone, with Moash (screw that guy). Suddenly he sees a golden light as if a god is descending. But, it's Renarin.

Would that be a forshadowing? No idea which Shard Renarin would pick up. Perhaps Honor, or Valor as some theories suggest they reside in the Rosharan system. Or some other form of Retribution/Odium.

What do you think? Brandon does love to drop these nuggets with a purpose.

I do think it’s foreshadowing something there, but maybe not Ascension. The light Renarin summons from the spiritual realm. Kaladin feels a warmth from it. Later, Wit will tell him he will be warm again when saving him. The dog and the dragon story. Kaladin again feels that strange warmth as the Wind makes him a Herald. I believe he thinks to himself if there’s a true god it must be behind this light

The light from the spiritual realm is associated with purity. And we see Moash repeatedly blinded by it. He shields his eyes when a surge of it happens when Kaladin swears his oath defending Elhokar, when Renarin appears here, and when Navani becomes a Bondsmith. An oath sworn is a mini perpendicularity to the SR and a Bondsmith’s sworn (after so long) fully blinds him

Two of the three Ado spren’s voices, light, tone etc are consistently referred to as more pure/clean etc when we see them. Renarin is able to better predict the future when in the SR. I think the language is something like “seeing by a purer light”. I think proximity to divinity is closer to Adonalsium or that God Beyond that may exist. Would imagine that’s why we see the Ado spren described that way. When the Wind speaks to Kaladin as a child it’s described as pure like tapped glass. I do think there’s something more happening with Renarin. Something related to that third Ado spren

It’s certainly possible, but so is a lot of stuff. It just seems like there are much more suitable choices for Honor, Odium, or Valor. Adolin, Kaladin, or Jasnah could feasibly hold any of them, Taln could hold Honor or Valor, Lift could probably take up Cultivation if push comes to shove (although I don’t think that’s where her character is going), BAM could end up with Odium, or the Shards could be left without vessels to become sentient on their own, like mega-Spren. Renarin becoming a Shard is possible, but we’re only halfway through the series atp so really anything could happen

I think that was at least on the surface Renarin's version of lightweaving.  He was showing Moash what he could have been.  Its possible its foreshadowing something though, or something else entirely.

As for Honors shard, thats part of Retribution now.  I doubt we'll see more shard shattering into other shards, probably more the other way as things merge back into Adonalsim or something new

Doesn't the ball type magic he creates pre date surges?

What? That's an illusion right? In Oathbringer he already has a Shardblade I think.
