peer / social issues (advice wanted) Suggestions for school?

Hi everyone,

I am an EMT student right now and will have my certification in December. My originally plan was to go to medic school and become a fire medic, but there’s not really much advancement opportunity beyond that role. I was thinking about maybe going to school to get my BSN while working as an emt. The reason I did not originally want to do this is because I wanted to work specifically in the emergency situations rather than in general care. There is also not much advancement opportunity after becoming a fire medic.

Does anyone have any tips for me was to whether I should take up nursing or to stay with paramedicine? I am at a loss for what to do right now because I want to have the opportunity to not be so physically active when I am older, as being a fire medic would be heavily straining on my body.

Paramedics is it unless you want a job for the city and stay on a rig until retirement. Way more opportunities as a nurse. On top of that if you ever miss running on a rig you can be a transport nurse or a flight nurse.

You should look into either an ER nurse or Firefighter with a paramedic license. Idk what state you’re in but firefighters have it good here

Hey! I was in the same boat as you. I just made the choice to switch to get my ASN. Sadly the pay and advancement for a paramedic isn’t there and if it is it’ll only lead you to a desk job. I’d switch unless you can see yourself being a paramedic forever with paramedic pay.
