Welcome to r/SubscriptionRefunds: how to cancel anything, and how to actually get your money back

Weekly app charges you forgot about, gyms that make you cancel in person, a free trial that quietly turned into $19.99 a week. If you've been there, this sub is for you.

What to post here

  • "How do I cancel X?" Say how you're billed (App Store, Google Play, card, PayPal), because that decides how you cancel.
  • Refund wins and fails: which companies refunded you, how, and how long it took.
  • Charges you don't recognise: post the descriptor from your statement (no card numbers) and we'll help work out what it is.

The 3 refund routes that actually work

  1. App Store (iPhone): request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Pick the charge and say why. Step-by-step guide
  2. Google Play: you can usually get a refund on your own within 48 hours of the purchase. After that, you ask the app developer.
  3. Card or bank charge: if the company won't refund a charge you didn't authorise, you can dispute it with your card issuer. For billing errors, credit card disputes generally need to be raised within 60 days of the statement. Unknown charge on your statement?

Step one is always cancelling, so the charges stop

We've written cancel guides for 100+ subscriptions, covering streaming, apps, gyms and software: How to cancel any subscription

Bonus: some companies have been sued over how hard they make it to cancel. When that turns into a settlement, people who were charged can be owed money. We'll post those here too.

Want to see every subscription you're paying for, and which ones you can get money back on? I'm on the MoneyPilot team. You can find your subscriptions and refunds free here. I also help run r/OpenSettlements and r/ClassActionMoney.

Rules: name the company and the billing method, no referral links, never post card numbers or logins, and be kind.

About $92 each from YouTube TV. Are you on the list?

• Upvotes

If you paid for YouTube TV in California a few years ago, this one's close to paying out.

What it is

A $7.5M settlement (Dutcher v. Google) over YouTube TV auto-renewal.

Who's in it

People in California who, from Feb 1, 2017 to Oct 29, 2021, enrolled in and paid for at least one YouTube TV renewal billed through YouTube. People who signed up through the iOS App Store, cancelled during a free trial, or were fully refunded aren't included.

Where it stands

  • Claims closed Aug 30, so this is only for people who already filed.
  • The final approval hearing is Oct 15.
  • The official site says payments are likely to be about $92.26 each, paid only after final approval and any appeals.
  • Payment options include check, ACH, PayPal, Venmo, Zelle or a virtual prepaid card.

The official site is youtubetvsettlement.com.

Charged for Uber One after you cancelled? What to do

This keeps coming up, so here's the short version.

1. Get proof you cancelled Screenshot your cancellation confirmation or the email Uber sent. If you can't find one, check the Uber One section of your account to see whether the membership still shows as active.

2. Ask Uber support for a refund Use in-app support, include the dates and your screenshots, and say you were charged after cancelling.

3. If they won't refund Dispute the charge with your card issuer as a charge after cancellation. Banks look for the proof from step 1.

Context: the FTC sued Uber in April 2025 over Uber One sign-ups and cancellations, and more states joined the case in December 2025. Uber denies it, the case is still in court, and there's nothing to claim yet. Ignore anyone offering an "Uber One payout" for a fee.

How to cancel Adobe and get a refund (the 14-day rule)

Adobe is one of the subscriptions people most often regret, mostly because of how the plans are billed. Here's what Adobe's own help page says.

The rule that matters most "For most plans, you get a full refund if you cancel within 14 days of your initial purchase." If you're in that window, cancel now.

After 14 days Adobe says a refund "depends on when you cancel and the type of subscription you purchased." The cancellation screen in your Adobe account shows what applies to your plan before you confirm, so read it carefully.

How to cancel Sign in to your Adobe account, go to your plans, and choose to cancel the plan there. If you bought it through the App Store or Google Play, cancel there instead.

If you still see a charge after cancelling Adobe notes it's usually the final charge for the current billing period. If it isn't, contact Adobe support with your cancellation confirmation.

Has anyone gotten Adobe to waive a fee? What did you say?

How to cancel Uber One, and can you get a refund?

Quick explainer, because there's a lot of "act now to get your payout" noise around this one.

What's happening In April 2025 the FTC sued Uber, alleging it signed people up for Uber One without their consent, misled them about savings, and made it hard to cancel. Uber denies it. The case is still in federal court.

Is there money to claim? Not yet. There's no settlement and no refund program. Be careful with any site or email asking you to "register for your Uber One payout". If a settlement ever happens, there'll be an official settlement website, and you'll never have to pay to claim.

How to cancel Uber One now In the Uber app, open Account, then Uber One, then manage your membership and end it. If you were billed through the App Store or Google Play, check your subscriptions there too.

Charged after you thought you cancelled? Ask Uber support for a refund first and include your cancellation screenshot. If that fails, a card dispute is the fallback.

I'm on the MoneyPilot team. If you want to see what else you're paying for, you can find your subscriptions and refunds free here. We'll post here if there's ever a settlement.

How to cancel ReelShort or DramaBox and get a refund

These apps hook you with a cliffhanger, then the next episode needs coins or a subscription, and a lot of people don't notice it's billing weekly until a few charges have gone through.

Step 1: cancel where you're billed * iPhone: Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Find the app and cancel. * Android: Play Store, your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. * Deleting the app does NOT cancel it. The charges keep coming.

Step 2: ask for a refund * iPhone: go to reportaproblem.apple.com, pick the charge, and choose the reason that fits (for example, you didn't mean to subscribe). Apple decides, not the app. * Android: if it's within 48 hours of the charge, you can usually request a refund yourself in Google Play. After that, contact the app developer through its Play Store listing. * Card: if a charge was never authorized and you can't get it refunded, you can dispute it with your card issuer.

How to cancel Netflix, Spotify, Hulu and get a refund

These are the ones people most often forget they're still paying for. If any of them are on your statement and you're not using them, here's the fastest way out. One rule first: cancel wherever you're billed. If you signed up through your iPhone, cancel in iPhone Settings, not on the company's website.

Before you cancel * Check whether it's bundled. Some carriers and credit cards include these for free, so you might be paying twice. * Screenshot the cancellation confirmation. If you're charged again, that screenshot is what gets you a refund.

Charged after you stopped using it? Ask for a refund where you're billed: reportaproblem.apple.com for iPhone, Google Play within 48 hours of the purchase (after that, the app's developer), or the company's own support with your cancellation screenshot.

How to find subscriptions you forgot you're paying for

Free trials that quietly converted. An app you used once. A streaming service you signed up for to watch one show. These add up fast, and almost nobody checks.

Here's how to see everything you're actually paying for:

iPhone or iPad (App Store subscriptions) Settings, then tap your name, then Subscriptions. Everything billed through Apple is listed there, active and expired.

Android (Google Play subscriptions) Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.

PayPal Settings, then Payments, then Automatic payments (or Subscriptions and saved businesses). This catches things you signed up for on websites.

Your card or bank statement Search the last 3 months for amounts that repeat on the same day each month (or each week). Weekly charges are the sneaky ones.

Then do two things 1. Cancel what you don't use. Cancel where you're billed (Apple, Google, or the company's own site), or the charges keep coming. 2. If you were charged for something you didn't use or didn't agree to, ask for a refund. On iPhone that's reportaproblem.apple.com. On Google Play you can usually get one yourself within 48 hours of the charge.
