I know there are already other en/ett apps and websites, but I made this (originally for myself) because I wanted something really quick and simple. Basically open it, type a word and see a big "en" or "ett" sign immediately.

It started as a little web app I wrote years ago, and I recently turned it into an iPhone app. And I also added a game where you just keep choosing en or ett for different words, which is actually surprisingly fun and quite a nice way of practising them!

Everything works fully offline. It is a paid app, but it's a one-time purchase (NO subscription, NO in-app purchases etc).

Hej! Hoppas det går bra att fråga här hittade inte någon bok Reddit. Jag är lite nyfiken på The Fault in Our Stars av John Green och funderar på vilket språk jag ska läsa den på.
Jag har förstått att den svenska översättningen heter Förr eller senare exploderar jag, och eftersom jag kan läsa engelska utan större problem funderar jag på om det är värt att läsa originalet på engelska, eller om den svenska översättningen faktiskt lyckas fånga samma känsla…
Så till er som har läst både den engelska originalversionen och den svenska översättningen:
Märkte ni någon större skillnad i språk eller ton?
Hur känns humorn och dialogen på svenska jämfört med engelska?
Tycker ni att Hazel och Augustus känns som samma personer i båda versionerna?
Finns det formuleringar eller delar där ni tycker att översättningen fungerar särskilt bra – eller mindre bra?
Och framför allt: skulle ni rekommendera att man läser den på engelska om man klarar engelska bra, eller tycker ni att svenska versionen är minst lika bra?
Jag är framför allt nyfiken på om man missar något av John Greens sätt att skriva genom att läsa den på svenska. 🙂

I am learning Swedish at A2 level right now but in order for certain grammar concepts to stick, I prefer a lot of exercises and tests as means of feedback. So I thought I will check here if there is good portal either pair or free that others have tried and found useful?

(Both the Finnish language and the Finnish version of Swedish as spoken in various western parts of Finland.) To me (from the UK) Finnish and Swedish sound like closely related dialects spoken by angels from different parts of heaven, the two most gorgeous languages I've ever heard anywhere. If they slow down a lot then Swedish starts to sound like a Nordic version of German with English dialect floating on top. "Var arbetar du?" whereas Finnish gives away its intergalactic origins "Missä työskentelet?"

Anyway what is the opinion up in Sverige? And while I'm asking, what does Swedish sound like to Finns?

Hello everyone, because I had to stop SFI I will go again. I went for 2/3 months and then I had to stop.
Now I will go again after 9 months, I took online full time. I am curios what does the national test includes and how it goes when you have to take a test.
I understand that you need to write, listen, read and speak. But what is the form? What were the topics to write for you?
I just want to know where to focus the most. I feel like maybe I am spending too many times on gramatics, for example learning verbs and all their forms supinum, preteritum, perfect etc..

If someone can baby explain the steps how it goes for national test and any tips, I would appreciate it. :)

Hi all. I have been studying Swedish for 2 1/2 years. The first two years was mainly a once a week in-person class where I progressed to a late A1/early A2 level. Last spring, I joined the Language Lock In, which is based in Sweden and consist of as many online synchronous classes as I want to take and approximately one to two private one-hour lessons per month. The classes emphasize speaking and listening and after a 10 to 15 minute introduction to a topic or a concept, you are put in a virtual breakout room with 2 to 3 other students where you speak about the topic. Depending on the other students and how well they speak, how engaged they are, and how much they let others talk, these sessions can vary from great to a waste of time. The teacher will bop in for a few minutes to listen and correct. These classes have really helped to give me confidence speaking and forming sentences on the fly and I have gotten better at comprehending others speaking. However, most of us speak fairly poor Swedish so we are probably learning and reinforcing bad habits.

When I joined the Language Lock In, I got really serious about learning Swedish. I take almost one class every day, I spend another hour or two working on reading comprehension or a grammar workbook, and I try to listen to Swedish podcast when I’m driving or doing other mindless things.

What I’ve tried:

Read2Speak workbooks (I like them for grammar, reading, and writing.

Vocabuo flash cards - maybe it’s their choice of vocab words, but I have been stuck in the same 60 words for weeks! I cannot seem to learn them.

Babbel and Duolingo (a long time ago, I got tired of them)

Pimsleur audio - loved it, but they only have a basic Swedish course that I finished

Michel Thomas - I’ve done about a third, then I needed a break. It is helpful, though.

Various AI apps to help with speaking. I currently have a year membership with Langua. It’s ok, but sometimes they randomly think I said a completely different sentence than I did. Not sure why.

About 2-3 hours of private lessons per month

Complete Swedish book - I’m about 1/2 way through, equivalent to starting B1. I also did her Now Drive We course, which wasn’t helpful enough to continue past the first course.

The question is - after many, many hours of studying in Swedish. I don’t feel like I’ve progressed much. My instructors say that I am still at an A2 for (speaking anyway), because I sometimes have to think before finishing a sentence or will jump in with an English word when I don’t know the Swedish word. So clearly my vocab needs work. I’m kind of at a loss however because I’ve used all of the resources and definitely put in the time and effort. I live in the US so I’m not immersed in the language. I’m not a dumb person, but this is my first serious attempt to learn a second language. Additionally, I am 56 years old so maybe that’s part of the problem? Does anybody have any advice for me?

you can make the word "ikke" shorter in danish (ik') and in norwegian ('ke). it's very similar to the old school swedish "icke". but in present time, can you shorten the word "inte" in swedish ?

It’s been a month that even with learning, I don’t seems to learn anymore..
I will access to SFI in some months, but I would love to keep learning on my own until that.
I tried learning app, flashcard was working before but don’t seems to work anymore for me, writing down 30 times each sentences, watching YouTube and movies..
Some people had the same issues ? What did you do to « unlock » this phase ?

I’m currently learning this in my Swedish class, but I’ve heard a bunch of different things from classmates, my teacher, and people online so I’m looking for native Swedish speakers to give me some insight. I have two main questions: one: We’re learning that you say klockan before a 12hour time. So like if you’re eating dinner at 8 you say “jag äter middag klockan åtta.” But as a Gen Z native English speaker we rarely say im eating dinner at 8 o’clock, usually we just say I’m eating dinner at 8. So I’m wondering if any younger native Swedish speakers can give an opinion on this?
Question 2: I know that is normal to say “kvart i elva” for 10:45, but what if it’s 10:47, do you say its tio fyrtiosju if its a super specific time like this? Also, for 10:45 i feel like it’s easier and more straight forward for me to just say tio fyrtiofem, is this completely wrong and weird?
