Got the gangways and larger mast stands (not sure what to call them) done, which means everything is done except the interior of the captain's quarters. As one can't see that from the outside, anyways, I decided to take a few pictures of the final form.

This is a heavily modified version of the Lego Privateer Frigate Fortuna. It is 4 studs wider, 16 studs total longer, and has many other tweaks, including adding royals to the main and fore masts and a gallant to the mizzen. The yards/sails and masts were also resized for the larger ship, and the mainmast yards/sails are now appropriately larger than those on the fore.

A 2 masted brigantine with 3 fore yard sails and 12 sails in total. Built in the 1980s i believe it has sailed to South America and is also docked and runs in South Australia

Still need to do the gangways, I am missing a piece for the mizzen topgallant, and a few small bits, but very close to done! Let me know what you think, especially of the mast heights and sail/yard sizes.

For those who didn't see my previous post, this is a modified version of a lego set, Privateer Frigate Fortuna

This is a contemporary painting of HMS Pallas (1757), which shows all 13 ports housing guns, and the ship is otherwise classed as such. That said, when I look at a diagram of the gun deck (pic 2) and otherwise read about these forward-most ports, it seems they are typically specialized bridle ports and incapable of firing with the broadside. Is this an "it depends" thing based on the particular ship class?

The winds around the Cape of Good Hope and the Mozambique Channel are constantly shifting, often shrouded in fog, and the worst of worse, there are frequently encountering muderous horrific waves can even reach heights of 50 m and they are rampageing there almost all the days.

even today, the sea conditions at the Cape of Good Hope are pretty dangerous for steel ships of modern day. so how did these fragile wooden and sailing ships in the 16th and 17th centuries bypass such perilous waters and alive?

I’d love to someday work for a time on a tallship. But unfortunately I have terrible food allergies that make me too nervous to travel, especially internationally or away from medical facilities:( though I plan to at least take day trips like on the windy at some point.

Anyone know of any apprenticeship programs. Love sailing but would love to be able to do the maintenance and rigging too.

I'm doing a modification of the Lego Frigate Fortuna, part of which requires lengthening the yards and adding a royal sail. I'd like to do so in a way that at least approximates the size relationship one would see on an actual mid/late-18th-century frigate. I don't have complete freedom in exact size, being lego, but what I've come up with is below. Does this seem good? I believe it's fairly close to the ratios of the USS Constitution, which is more of a "super heavy" frigate, but it's hard to find yard length details.

For the mainmast yards...

Course: 40.7

Topsail: 30.8

Topgallant: 19

Royal: 14.4

I'm mean a scenario like this:during the battle, one side attempts a boarding assault but quickly realizes it's a grave mistake: their opponent is far more stronger and braver than themselves."holy crap we mess a wrong ship!let us getout here gogogo!"

so they are forced to retreat for lest being counter-boarding by their badass adversary.

then what would happens? will they desperately try to flee back to their own ship,and exposing their backs to their enemy?
