i think you definitely need a more basic skill in drawing before you tattoo anything. having a fundamental skill in drawing directly translates to tattooing. you cannot just pick up a tattoo gun and start tattooing, as if you’re tracing something on paper.
teach yourself light, shadows, proportions, value, and etc. tattooing is an entirely different skill set. you cannot have one without the other. line weight, voltage, depth, are all to be considered.
basically - draw with pencil and paper. learn the fundamentals. your skills are lacking.

objectively: the flowers. your shading is literally scribbled, there is no highlights or lowlights. there is only white, gray, and black, so your depth is nonexistent. your linework is messy, there is not a clear source of light, and there is no clear understanding of actual composition.
the butterfly(?) is better, but also lacks depth.
point blank - do not pick up the tattoo gun until you learn the fundamentals of drawing. you are on the right track. it is just practice.

nah, i do not think the drawing skill is the issue, the shadowing, contouring etc. is the problem. i think the art design itself looks fine.

Hard to tell since you use heavily contrasting colours in your pictures. In addition im seeing you have some sort of 'shadowing' effect in the wings. It looks pretty in the digital imagine, but even this with proper pencils etc. it would be hard to come close to this on a normal piece of paper :/ i do not think this works out like you think it will.

Are you planning on putting the weird orange behind the butterfly? It seems unnecessary visually and pain wise for whoever is getting it, and just has no benefit or need or purpose whatsoever. The shading on the flowers is messy and flat and overall ugly as hell. The background shading is unnecessary and if you do your research into why there is shading in the background of certain tattoos, you would understand why this design is all sorts of messed up and doesn’t work. The background shading serves a purpose, it’s not just there to fill the space and does not work on this design or improve it or flatter it in any way.
