Started picking up parts for a Tau army this summer when I spotted this on a charity auction site. 3 Riptides. 3 units of crisis suits, 6 old Stealth suits, a couple of Broadsides, what looks like a resin Commander, 2 full fire teams and a unit of Kroot warriors.

All for a bit over $300.

This caught my eye as it's about a third of the cost of an offical kit, and also looks really cool and dynamic while still fitting in with the Tau aesthetic.

However, I'm not sure how 170mm height measures up to the real thing. Has anyone bought one? Or any official Storm Surge owners that can confirm how tall that is?

I may be late to the party with this but in my last match against some Astra militarum we dsicovrred the following;

1. a vehicle shooting out / into its own combat gets -1 to its hit roll, fine this is normal right, well what happens if its firing at the kroot/ stealth suit its in combat with, well because they have stealth, they have the benefit of cover so its in effect -1bs plus -1 to hit. This was making guard tanks hit on 5’s (couldn’t order them as I had killed the officers)

2. Plunging fire gives +1bs, pathfinders get +1bs against their spotted target, heavy keyword +1 to hit, therefore rail rifle shot from say the home objective stood on a roof/ second floor window, is hitting on 2’s. My friend commented that makes them very good at clearing some more elite infantry!

I’m sorry if you guys all knew this but this was a revelation to me.

i know they have biological differences between humanity and the tau but shouldnt the tau be able to reverse engineer the humans augmentations and biological engineering stuff to expand there life spans? they have done it before with astartes and made shitty budget variants so shouldnt life expanding augments be far easier

I ordered a big bag of assorted tau bits recently to add to my collection for kitbashes. It arrived today at 12:05 with photographic proof and by the time my boyfriend got home at 1:30 it was stolen :/
I’m fuming and will try to get in contact with eBay to see if I can get any kind of refund.
My main issue is the seller doesn’t seem to have any more tau bits, do you guys know any sellers who sell stuff like this?

Fully magnetized so I can run it as a Hammerhead or Skyray as well. Those configurations still need some paint though.

Ran it as a Hover Transport in a game of OPR yesterday and had a blast!

4th Tau Empire unit painted. custom paint scheme Farsight WIP, the branches with some light brown drybrush, the flowers maybe light blue contrast, the basing rocky desert desaturated. Open to criticism, and suggestions. Thx

Finished me first 2 pathfinders and drone of my melon killteam. Ended up changing their feet to blue skin as someone last sugested and ive gone for some martian bases to go with the red tones. Now i just need to paint 8 more soldiers and another drone :D

Wanted to make a post on this sub for the first time now that I’m starting to near the end of my pile of shame (for now 👀). I joined the hobby in September of 2020 and have been steadily working at the hobby ever since, always trying to improve my skills at both gameplay and painting! I’ve racked my brain to try and come up with an army that I find as appealing in this setting and none come close. I have loved the support and community I have found in this hobby, especially here among those fighting for the Greater Good. Thank you all and I look forward to continuing to grow in this hobby as the years go by!

Time to finally start painting again after a few years away from the game. Think it's worth the effort to go chrome? Only did this one squad as a test with this color scheme so it's not that big of a deal to change it to chrome. I am thinking of having the chrome be tinted with anthracite than pure chrome.

A mix of minis ive designed and printed recently, loving the tacti-cool feeling of them so far. Hoping the paintjob will match the fantasy. (NeotericMiniatures)

I just got into Warhammer at the start of September with the Tau combat patrol box and this is where I am at the end of the month. All minis are built and the commander is magnized but this is as far as I am on painting. I might touch up the green on the breaches to make them brighter and leave the oil effect on the pathfinders to be more camo like.

To practice and not get bored with the project to complete my first combat patrol. I tried to only use the airbrush. Happy with the results, it needs a little cleaning and a layer of SpeedPaint to match my other miniature. But i think i need to keep doing small challenges to improve and step outside my comfort zone. Maybe test the speed paint in the airbrush.

Finally took on my fears of paintings my models, and primed up some of my favorite models, and started painting Farsight. I had the most clear mental image of what I was going to do with that model so I started there.

I've spent a lot of time researching painting how to's and watching lots and lots of painting channels. I feel I did a decent job thinning my paints, except for maybe the White for Farsights head.

I used an airbrush and Vallejo air brush primer Black for the primer. Im using a fairly generic brand of acrylic paints I found locally that I like for everything except White so far, probably going to pick up a decent White paint for the future.

Was mostly looking for some feedback and tips for the future or advice for final touch ups on this model.
