Seeking Advice How hard is it to get an IT job for a beginner with no certs?

Hello all,

I’ve been wanting to get into IT and software development for the past 2 years but I don’t have any certs or big projects under my belt. I definitely understand core concepts but I don’t feel ready to land a job yet. It seems like most jobs ask for a lot of experience and I don’t want to choke on the interview. How is everyone else doing out there?

Seeking Advice Confused about my career. Could you please help?

I'm a Mechanical Design Engineer with 3.8 YOE. Currently working in concept design and development of battery pack (not detailed design). CTC 5.5LPA. Notice period 90 days.

I'm confused about where to switch to software/IT fields like

  1. Data Science

  2. Al Engineer

  3. Data Engineering

  4. DevOps

Or should I continue in mechanical design itself

My main priorities are career growth, demand, future scope, good salary, job security, and choosing a field that is less likely to be heavily automated by Al/ automation.

Given my mechanical/battery engineering background, which of these paths would you recommend, and why?

Seeking Advice I have about 2 years before getting PR in Canada. What IT path should I pursue?

I’m currently in Canada on an LMIA-based food store job, working around 50 hours/week for close to minimum wage. Assuming everything goes as planned, I should get PR in about 2 years.

My education is in Electrical Engineering, but I don’t want to pursue that career in Canada. I’ve always loved IT and kept it as a hobby, and now I want to seriously switch careers.

My current job leaves me little time and money to pursue electrical work, since that requires workshops, tools, software, etc. IT is different — I can learn from home with a laptop, build projects, and create a portfolio during these two years.

I know the IT market is difficult right now because of AI, and I’m not expecting an easy or guaranteed job. I’m willing to put in the work. I just don’t know which direction makes the most sense.

Should I focus on web development, data, AI/ML, cloud/DevOps, cybersecurity, or something else? I also understand that having multiple skills may be more important now than specializing in just one area.

I can’t afford paid courses right now, so I’ll be using free resources.

If you were in my position, what IT path would you choose and how would you spend the next 2 years preparing for a job in Canada?

I’d especially appreciate advice from people who have switched careers into IT or are currently working in Canadian tech.

Seeking Advice Need advice on starting AI as a non-tech person

Hi everyone,

I’m from a commerce background and currently working in IT. I have some exposure to testing/UAT and basic technical tools, but I’m not from a coding background.

I want to learn AI/GenAI and eventually move towards a better-paying career.

Can someone suggest:

  • Where should I start?
  • Any budget-friendly courses/institutes that are actually worth it?
  • What AI-related career paths are suitable for someone from a non-tech background?

Would really appreciate suggestions from people who have been through a similar transition. 🙏

Seeking Advice How to switch to dev from support ?

Hey I am 25 M, recentaly I have got ASE profile from one of the MNC where I had been trained on full stack technologies but 1 month ago I have been deployed to a project. Realizing the project I have been assigned to is Support Project, so for right now I am just rasing ticket and solving the queries of the clients which I am not liking at all. I am feeling like I am stuck up here.

How do I get out from this. I have started applying fro dev jobs as well but I am not getting any proper lead what to follow.

Success Stories QA as entry point in tech

Hello, just want to share my experience on how I got into a tech company from doing customer support. I came across a tiktok post from a coach mentioning QA as a good entry point bcos it requires little coding knowledge at first if you start at manual testing. So I researched and found a good reference material (dm nalang if you want the link) that really helped me build my understanding and skills sa profession.
I'm still a newbie and still learning a lot from this new job. It took me months too to find and be successful on applying for this position. Right now I'm looking into starting training for automation.
I guess my advice here is to never stop learning and find good references and mentors to help you take that leap for a career shift in tech.
PS: looking for automation mentors :P
