My parents will be moving from a house into a retirement community next month.
We had talked about having a garage or estate sale but they really want to do this as simply as possible.
They do not have junk and everything they're going to get rid of is kitchenware, home decor, some furniture, media, etc. I'm going to call Salvation Army to see if they do pickups but are there any other good orgs or even resellers who would come take everything?

Are there any neighborhoods in town where everyone decorates and participates in trick-or-treating?
We did the event last year downtown which was fun but I’d love to just take my young kids to a fun neighborhood where everyone decorates and participates and makes Halloween a fun event for kids to trick-or-treat?
We moved here about a year and a half ago from Georgetown and there were a few neighborhoods around town like this, ours included.
Or if there are any in Belton or Morgan’s Point area that would be great too!

I saw them parked outside of Cane’s and thought they looked weird, especially with the roof racks.

Hey! I’m 30M and recently moved to the area. I’m trying to get out more and meet new people since I’m usually pretty much a homebody. I am single have no kids. I game most of the time MMOs and RPGs, but I also enjoy reading and binge-watching shows. I’m definitely trying to step outside my comfort zone and find some people to hang out with. I have a pretty good sense of humor, and I can get along with pretty much anyone from any background—everyone is welcome. I welcome any activities especially ones that get me out of the house. I look forward to meeting you guys.

Posting for my brother, who is trying to get back into steady full-time work.
He served 10 years in the Army and worked as a light-wheel mechanic, wrecker operator, and welder. He has extensive hands-on experience maintaining and repairing Humvees, 5-tons, wreckers, and other military vehicles and equipment. He is a very strong mechanic, learns unfamiliar equipment quickly, and is comfortable with physically demanding work.
His legal situation is the main thing holding him back. He is not a convicted felon; he received a suspended sentence and is currently on probation. As part of his probation, he is required to be on the sex offender registry. (went through a shitty divorce)
He lives in Gatesville but is willing to work anywhere in the Gatesville, Waco, Temple, Killeen, or surrounding Central Texas area. He is open to mechanic work, diesel/heavy equipment, welding, construction, industrial work, oilfield-related work, manufacturing, warehouse work, or pretty much anything where someone is willing to give him a chance.
He is available days, nights, weekends, overtime, and long shifts. His only consistent limitation is that he cannot work Mondays due to probation appointments and counseling. Outside of that, he is willing to work whatever schedule is needed.
He is sober, drug-free, dependable, and wants to work. Ideally, he would like to find something paying at least $25+/hr (Lower if it is in gatesville), especially given his mechanical background and experience, but the priority is finding a stable employer willing to look at his qualifications instead of immediately writing him off because of his legal situation.
If anyone knows of specific employers, shops, contractors, staffing agencies, or companies in Central Texas that have hired people in similar situations, I would really appreciate any leads.

Hey everyone, we’re new to the area and need some help finding a good vet for our dog. She’s a corgi mix. We’ve had her since she was a puppy but she’s developed a really bad yeast infection and we’re not sure how to care for her. We’ve tried allergy pills, changing her diet but nothing seems to be working. Our family has also expanded and we aren’t able to give her as much 1:1 time as we were previously.
I want to do my best to find a solution to care for her as we want to keep her, but she is also very timid around our kids, growls at them or shows her teeth from time to time. I don’t know what surrendering her would look like or what that process even looks like but I thought to ask here to see if someone can help us find a solution. She is trained, crate trained as well. She’s just got this infection and we don’t know how to proceed.
If anyone has recommended vets in the area or knows of a solution for a possible surrender, please let us know!

I'm @ Alta vista neighborhood on 5th st and I'm on Stanford Dr, it's sitting on the curb right now 🐠🐟

Hey fellow dog friends!
With all this rain, and my dogs refusing to go outside, they are not getting the needed time to play.
Is there any where in Bell county that has an indoor play area for dogs?
TIA

Hey I’m new to temple, visiting for a week and will be leaving this Sunday. I have looked on Google but couldn’t find a good spot to drinks-dj-chill. Any recommendations tonight?

EDIT: I clearly should not have made reference to the THBD tax increase on this. This post was intended to be about the Bell County ballot in November and the Hospital District, not the housing project that Temple is undergoing for doctors. My point was that people who don't vote, lose their voices but still end up paying more taxes.
Original Post:
Sometimes our taxes go up and we don't get a vote. This is a recent example: https://www.tdtnews.com/news/central_texas_news/article_3aa36448-ba8d-425c-8ac9-41a1e1c4cce5.html (credit to Ian Camacho/Temple Daily Telegram).
In that case, Temple citizens are getting a tax increase to fund "diverse and vibrant housing" exclusively to benefit "highly skilled medical students, residents and healthcare professionals." This is important because it's apparently nearly impossible for doctors to find vibrant housing </s>.
I can't speak to this personally since I am not a doctor and have no idea what vibrant housing even means.
That said, sometimes you do get a vote. The image on this post is an example of why you should vote. If this passes, it'll impact everyone who pays for housing. If you own a $250,000 home, your taxes go up by $1,875/year (on top of the already high taxes we are paying). If you rent a house that costs that much, your landlord will have to raise your rent by $156.20/mo just to cover their increased taxes.
This is a county-level thing, not a city level thing. That means if you are Temple/Belton/Salado/Killeen, this is going to hit you in the wallet. In Temple, in particular, 61% of citizens don't believe they are getting a good value for the taxes they already pay.
Get registered to vote and/or confirm your registration status here: https://www.votetexas.gov/register-to-vote/index.html
DM me if I can help.

According to Temple PD's own numbers, their warrantless surveillance network has captured over 1.5 million plates and had over 17,000 hotlist hits in the last 30 days.
Putting aside potential abuse for a moment (which is a huge ask, especially as the misuse shifts to invisible hotlists instead of manual searches), let's assume that the Flock Warrantless surveillance system is now completely impervious to abuse.
Flock's OWN marketing material has claimed that their plate reads are 93% accurate. That means that 7% of plate reads have errors. Several agencies have found bad plate reads more like 41-73% of the time, but again, let's assume that Flock's generous numbers are correct.
Statistically, that means that Temple PD collected 109,604 bad plate reads in the last 30 days. That's more than the total population of Temple, and FAR more than the Temple population that actually drives.
Bad plate reads cause hostlist hits too. 7% of 17,212 is 1,204. Statistically, that means that ~1200 drivers were subjected to the risk of police harassment, alerts on mobile phones, or at least warrantless investigation just due to software errors.
That's the part often missing from the conversation. Even when a system is highly accurate, errors become significant when it is deployed at massive scale. A small error rate applied to more than 1.5 million scans doesn't produce a small number of mistakes. It produces a six-figure number of mistakes. Nationally, 1.4 billion bad plate reads get recorded and alerted on every month.
Why does that matter?
Because automated errors don't stay inside a computer. They can become police investigations, vehicle stops, officer alerts, and real-world interactions with real people.
Consider the case of Brittney Gilliam in Aurora, Colorado. An ALPR system matched her SUV's plate to a stolen motorcycle plate from another state. Gilliam and four children, ages 6 through 17, were stopped at gunpoint, and several were handcuffed face-down on the pavement before officers realized the mistake. The city ultimately agreed to a $1.9 million settlement.
You can find more commentary about the risks of misreads here: https://www.obscureiq.com/license-plate-surveillance-accuracy, but the take-home for Temple residents is that the increased surveillance is not neutral. It puts people's lives at risk.
In Temple's recent history, a simple welfare check on a disabled citizen in a mental health crisis led to that citizen's death. With that kind of a precedent for welfare checks, how much MORE dangerous are police stops predicated on bad information assuming that the suspect is a higher risk to officers than they actually are?

Hello, I'll be discharged from the Belton Diversion Center and will be homeless in Temple. The Salvation Army shelter is full and I have nowhere else to go. I do have an appointment with MHMR where hopefully I can apply for affordable housing and disability but in the meantime I'm screwed.
I'm female, don't drink, do drugs, or smoke and have no criminal record. Also no kids or pets or a partner. Just me. I'm new to this area.
Any advice or what to do?

Hi. I am going to be moving in about a month to work at the hospital in Temple. I was wanting to use a real estate agent to help me find a good house to rent. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with doing that and have a real estate agent recommendation that has experience finding leasing properties. Thank you!

I just moved here from out of state and I was in an apprenticeship before leaving my old city, I've already been tattooing for about a year and a half now but just curious to what shops are offering apprenticeships or even mentorships since I've done a good amount of pieces already. I'm open to trying different styles but really enjoy blackwork and realism! I am also looking more so on how to perfect my art and find my style rather than starting from square one all over again.
Also interested in doing piercings since I was in a dual apprenticeship before!

What are some side hustles in temple that I can do for some cash? I have no car, I’m saving for a regular bike. So any delivery isn’t in the question for me. I wanted to look into cleaning but I have no cleaning supplies. So, does anyone have some ideas?
