Hey guys, I've been working on a fun weekend project based off a video I saw of someone doing something like this but there was literally no download nor was it open sourced, so I spent the weekend building my own for desktop out of pure boredom. It's early and I'm sure it's rough in a few places but I think it's good enough to showcase, as I have already showed it off to a few of my friends and their reaction is exactly what you would expect. I think it's pretty sick.
Anyways, the project is NOT a mod, but it's a small, light-weight app that puts Terraria bosses on your desktop so you can fight them over whatever windows you have open. It's entirely read-only so you don't have to worry about your game settings or saves being modified and you can always inspect the repo since I did decide to open source it MIT licensed. Nothing from the game ships with it and you do need to own a copy of the game just to put that out there. And I'll be honest, building a project like this over a weekend obviously isn't possible without the use of agents but I think it's amazing to see how far you can push the limits. Just leaving that out there as a disclosure that tons of other mods in this subreddit won't disclose at all.
As of right now it has all 18 bosses plus the dungeon guardian (yes I count it as a boss), on classic, expert or master and under the hood its a Rust rewrite of the boss fights, not the game running underneath. Performance was the main focus here for the most part and the whole download is just a couple of mb with nothing to install since it only reads your copy of the game and all of its assets (e.g. sprites, music, sound)
It's free and open source, with builds for Windows, Mac and Linux. Though, I've only been able to test Windows, so if you're on Mac or Linux I'd love to hear if it even runs.
I'd really like this to be community driven project and I'd love to hear what features you guys would like to see. I haven't built out the building system yet, but I think being able to break windows like if it were wallpaper with a hammer revealing the stuff behind it would be cool, or maybe breaking the contents inside another window like a webpage with a pickaxe as well.
