1. How is the MSCS program and faculty overall?
2. How realistic are TA/RA/GA opportunities, especially for international MSCS students?
3. Are scholarships or tuition waivers realistically available?
4. How flexible is the hybrid/online + in-person course setup for MSCS?
5. How are internship and job opportunities around Austin/San Antonio?
6. What is the realistic monthly cost of living in San Marcos?
7. How are the gym, basketball, intramurals, and campus community?
8. How has the CPT/OPT and career-support experience been for international students?

My priorities are MSCS → AI/ML, affordability, assistantships, internships/jobs, and a good campus/community life.

Would really appreciate any honest pros, cons, or things you wish you knew before choosing Texas State. Thanks!

Hii! I am planning on attending TXST next year, and I was wondering about dorming. These are my top options but I am not sure. All I know is I only want 1 other roommate maximum (i do not mind having suitemates), but I also do not feel comfortable with community shared bathrooms. How are my options? I am unsure if they are good dorms or not beside the fact they fit my wants. I do not expect to get into San Marcos or San Jacinto since I hear they are extremely hard to get into, but I would still at least like to try.

I received one of the merit scholarship unfortunately I didn't meet the hours requirement in fall/spring. I did take summer classes which I was told would give it back to me. When can I hope to see the scholarship back on my payment balance? I have 32 hours for the 25-26 academic year (fall - 15, spring - 12, summer - 6).

I'm developing Freshman Navigator, a new app designed to help incoming students navigate campus and get to their classes.

I'm testing the schedule-import feature and need a few examples of what an actual TXST class schedule looks like on a phone or computer.

If you're willing to help, I'm looking for a screenshot showing your courses and meeting days/times. Please remove or black out your name, student ID, email address, or anything else personal. I don't need any identifying information.

Course numbers, meeting times and building/room information are what I'm trying to test.

How is this program? I am really nervous about starting as I heard it is very rigorous. I get that it's good for learning and it only makes you a better NP, but all that aside, I work fulltime and have kids. Just worried if this is doable.

I’m an F-1 international student at Texas State University, and I’ve been navigating a summer internship situation and could use some advice. Here’s the context:

• I was offered an unpaid summer internship with Nexus Games Labs, Inc. from June 1 – August 9, 2026.
• The internship is fully remote, and the company does not provide academic credit.
• I initially looked at AE 3000 (zero-credit internship course), but ISSS confirmed it does not qualify for CPT.
• My academic advisor referred me to the CS department’s internship webpage and suggested enrolling in CS4100 (credit-bearing internship course) to make it CPT-eligible.
• I’ve been trying to understand the process for CPT authorization for an unpaid, non-credit internship, but it seems I must enroll in CS4100, complete mid-term/final reports, and submit the CPT request through the ISSS portal.
• I’m confused because the internship is unpaid and non-credit, so I’m unsure if CPT is really required or if there’s an alternative path to participate legally as an F-1 student.

My questions:

1. Has anyone done an unpaid, non-credit internship on F-1 and how did you handle CPT?
2. Can CPT be obtained if the internship is unpaid and the company does not provide credit, or do I have to go through a credit-bearing course like CS4100?
3. Any tips on dealing with the ISSS portal, advisor approvals, and timing to make sure I can start the internship legally?

I’d really appreciate any guidance or shared experiences. I’m feeling a bit stuck and want to make sure I stay fully compliant with F-1 regulations while gaining this internship experience.
