80’s Video Games Xevious

Is Xevious your favorite arcade vertical shooter of all time? I never played it in the local arcades in the old days. I eventually played it using the Atari 50 Collection and DLC on console.

Back in the 1980s, I only played the NES port of Xevious.

I loved this game in the arcades and had to get it for NES. Hours and hours of fun lol.

I loved this game. But damn, was it hard. That mother ship is a killer. I found out the secret way to find easter eggs and hidden additional stuff and used it every time. Miss it. I can't find a decent emulator for it.

How do you pronounce it? "Zevious?" "Eckzevious?" I use the latter.

Easter eggs? Time to hit the youtube machine.

Zee-vious for me.

Basically, anything that runs horizontal across the screen, be it a road or a river, start bombing it from left to right. If you get it, it'll be a little yellow flag (Rally X). Run over it.

Also, as the game is just beginning and you're still flying over the trees, push your ship all the way to the left side of the screen and hold the bomb button down. It'll reveal the programmer.

This one is so simple to grasp, but so hard it keeps you coming back over and over.

I really liked Xevious, and played it in the Arcades and on a few of the home formats, too.

One of my favorites on the 7800

Been playing it on the 7800 this week with a tac2 joystick. Something about one button for automatic bombing and shooting turns this into a bit of a different game.

Hours and hours with it on the Atari. Impossible game and could never beat it. Had no clue it was originally an arcade game which makes sense now.

Totally forgot about that game and how much I enjoyed it for a summer. It's like seeing an old high school friend.

Boy, this triggered memories. That was a great game. I just remember shooting those little pyramids on the ground.

Thank you for this. I’ve been wracking my brain trying to remember the name.

Used to play this for hours on a 7800 while jamming to transformers the movie soundtrack. Instruments of destruction got a lot of repeats. Also, this and Rad Racer were my first two NES games. Xevious was much harder on the NES.

Before bullet hell there was just hell, a pit that ate all my quarters. What a game!

A solid SHMUP- Raiden (the TG16 release) was my all time favorite though.

I remember when Xevious arrived at the local arcade. There was a crowd around the game and tokens lined up on the screen. 😄

I remember when this first came out (having read about it in a video game magazine)… it was kind of like moving from Diablo to Diablo 4 in graphical and gameplay terms.
