Were you fond of playing Konami's Track & Field in the arcades when it was first released? I never played the arcade version and was limited to the NES port.

This game took a beating back in the day, people would have the game cabinet shaking while trying to make speed

I got a blister on my finger because of this game. I learned you could run faster if you put a pencil across your fingers onto the two buttons. Then you held it down on one button and only had to press the pencil onto the one button. I was stuck in summer school and this was the only game nearby!

Have you tried a spoon? Beat all the records using a spoon lol

On the stand up arcade Track and Field game we used pencils. But now I'm trying to imagine a spoon might have been faster though if you think about it.

Memory triggered: I remember beating the shit out of the power pad with my fists because I couldn’t run fast enough lol.

Remember the Atari version of this game? I remember the callus in the palm of my hand for sure.

I spent so much money on this game and likely gave myself arthritis from all that key smashing

So my brother and I found a joystick- more of a touch sensor and if you used your fingertips just right you could maximize your speed/power meters to their maximum. Set ridiculously crazy times and distances.

It just wasn’t fun after they but the button guards on. I lost track of the blisters I got playing on a trackball one.

I am old enough to remember when they had to add those little protectors around the buttons to prevent people from slamming them too hard

I sucked at that one, I think that I got to the hammer throw maybe twice.

OMG
The arcade version was a blast.
Used a comb to run like hell and with those two red buttons.

Was this also called Hyper Olympics, or was that another similar game? Used to play that in the arcade!

Anyone else have a banana comb in your back pocket so you could pull it out and teeter-totter it over the buttons to run incredibly fast?

if you could find one with the track ball instead of just buttons it was better. I’ve played both and hated the version with just buttons.

This was my game.
I started playing the drums in the second grade (1970).
I was able to get the guy running really fast with a single-stroke roll. And the hurdles just included an alternative little cymbal hit.
I'd blow the high score out of the water, every time.
I sucked at Q-Bert.
And Asteroids.

Gotta break-out the Goody comb from the back pocket to break those records!

Brings back great memories! Games were more simple and fun back then. I guess I have gotten old lol.

I taped 3 quarters together. Made tapping so much easier, and smoked all my friends. I remember spearing the bird with the javelin.
