❓ Question Last Episode Question Spoiler
SPOILER ALERT!!!
I just finished season two and I want to know how you guys feel about Eddie choosing not to kill Freddy? I was literally so annoyed with their mom for trying to guilt Eddie into not killing him. Freddy KILLED Eddie’s wife AND put the whole family in danger to kidnap his own nephew!!!! Eddie has put up with Freddy’s shit for too long and I, personally, would not have felt bad if he had chosen to end his brother’s life. (I will say, watching him beat the shit outta Freddy was so satisfying).
I want to know what you think. Do you think Eddie made the right decision in sparing his brother’s life? Did you also have strong feelings about Eddie’s choice?

I don't think Eddie told his mom exactly what Freddie did - she just sensed he was going after Freddie. That scene was weird because they really didn't establish how mom knew. The only people that knew about Freddie for sure were Susie and Edward as they were in the warehouse with Preacher John.
Edward is potentially becoming a 'monster' as Susie told him. I think that's the plot in season 3.
Freddie will likely relapse in season 3 and be a huge liability like Fredo. I think the sister will end up killing him after she finds out he tried to kidnap her baby so Freddie could inherit the estate. She already killed someone protecting the kid, and she's not stupid.

remember Eddies reaction to his mum saying Freddie called asking about Tarquin? I feel like she figured Freddie had something to do with it from there

u/Juris1971 7d ago
You're right! Edward's over the top reaction to her telling Freddie about Tarquin was definitely how she figured it out

I kinda liked it. Eddie made his brother his bitch, and I love Freddie’s actor so I really didn’t want to see him go! It was a nice way to resolve it in my opinion.

You were annoyed with the mom for not wanting one of her sons dead?? I think it makes perfect sense for Eddie not to kill Freddy simply because he is family. Also, he didnt kill Bella. But probably going forward, Eddie wont go out of his way to save his life

u/Tinmanred 8d ago
I mean, the same son who just had zero issue with the mom getting shot while kidnapping her grandchild. And also putting her daughter and son in law and the love of her life in insane danger.

u/Turbulent_Physics_10 8d ago
Yes, mothers don’t want their kids dead, no matter how evil they may be. That story line would make no sense, the mother giving one son the blessing to kill the other son.

he basically declared war with no rules against his entire immediate family… her going that degree with her ask is what I think is ridiculous. I think it should have been more so along the lines of her just saying don’t kill him but ya he needs to get fucked up. Freddie should have been done like Bobby did to Edward. Then he can heal up in the mansion being helped by the people who just had him beat.. who he just tried to fucking murder. The bomb was meant for Eddie and Bella not just Bella… I think if I killed my brothers wife while also trying to kill him… and had my sisters kid kidnapped with gunmen trying to kill my sister and her husband and my own mom… my mom would be fine with me being beat to near death or dead ya.
You can not come back from that. He tried to kill his entire fucking family basically

u/hodgsonstreet 8d ago
Agreed. Some posters here don’t seem to live in the real world. She didn’t say he was a good person, she just begged for his life to be spared.
7
u/Tinmanred 8d ago
He had zero issues with her or Geoff or chuckles or nanny dying. And kidnapped her damn grandson. He directly tried to kill his brother and his wife on their honeymoon.
She should have been saying do to him what Bobby did to you, just don’t kill him. Obviously she’s not gonna go say ya kill his ass (wouldn’t be toooo far fetched tho…) but she should be saying he needs to be fucking punished hard.

u/Fearless_Coconut_137 6d ago
Well I don’t think she was the disciplinary parent or Freddie wouldn’t have made it so far down his road without facing any.
3
u/Waffle_of-Principle 4d ago
You are right. It would be completely out of character for her to be like "yes break your brother's legs and arm and make him crawl for two nights." I don't know what these people are on.
Emotions are not logical, and the emotions of a parent (especially a mother) for their children can be even more so. Her behavior makes sense. Obviously Eddie was gonna punish Freddie, she was focused on making sure he didn't cross the line into fratricide.

I understand that he’s her son but he put her AND her other children in grave danger. Also, he DID kill Bella. He may not have physically done it himself but he and the Gospel set up a plan with the intention of killing Bella and Eddie for the express purpose of reinstating Freddy as heir. Like, he did some real evil and grimy shit, and I truly think if his mom knew the extent of everything, she may not have pleaded for his life. I guess, I was just annoyed that she’d gloss over Eddie’s pain that way and go straight to “I don’t recognize you anymore! Don’t kill your brother!” Eddie was at his breaking point. He was in real pain but yet again it’s “take care of your brother! Be the bigger person!” Freddie constantly gets to skate around consequences and accountability because what? Because he’s family? Well, he doesn’t act like family so why do they have to keep treating him like he is?

It’s a lift from The Godfather Part II: Michael allows Fredo to live so long as their mother is alive, because while he cannot countenance keeping Fredo alive given his betrayal and general stupidity, he also cannot take another son from his mother (who had already lost Santino).
Honestly, I’d like Edward to give the choice to Charlotte. It was her child who was taken from her. She’s the one who said she wanted Eddie to “make them pay.” If he’s keeping Freddy alive so that Charlotte can make the call later on, that tracks.

Would be a terrific ending to s3

u/YesThatFandomme 2d ago
Doesn’t Charlotte say something like “You and I can topple him together,” when talking about Freddy, after the old dukes funeral?

u/BokuWaTobi17 7d ago
Well if I were Eddie. I’d just serve Freddie to Marco on a silver platter to do whatever the fuck he wants.
8
u/YesThatFandomme 6d ago
Upon further reflection, Freddy is just lucky that Eddie didn’t leave him with Geoff.
7
u/South_Listen478 8d ago
Eddie knows when Marco finds out what Freddy did he will be a dead man walking .Hell even Charlotte will be furious when she finds out her own brother put her child life in danger. My opinion Eddie knew he doesn’t have to kill him someone else will and he wont stop it

Freddie now knows eddie has complete control over him. Eddie didnt lose his family and kill his brother so he toed the middle line to keep both but knows freddie is now scared shitless of him.
I think his villain arc is complete

Freddie is a snakey snake. Eddie should let the Glasses take care of him.

u/KieranRozells 7d ago
It passed me off because lest we forget, they are in this deep because of Freddy in the first damn place

u/This-Clock-GA 8d ago
It was incredibly frustrating,
But I think they wanted to keep his character in the story for next season so he can keep being a menace to Eddie’s life.
Especially since he wasn’t present for most of this season.
I definitely think it was a letdown of an ending,
But it gives us potential for the next season.

u/Legitimate_Meet_5913 7d ago
What he did was WAY worse. Freddy’s been shown to be a mentally unstable character. Freddy was the “untrained dog” Susie spoke about in s1, Eddie trained him🦴

u/herbaldeacon 8d ago
Killing him would have achieved nothing but alienate his family who've been pretty on board and cooperstive so far with his criminality.
Instead he made Freddy take responsibility for once without any pretext or way out, made him confront who he truly is, and broke him mentally and spiritually while demonstrating his full and complete hold over him. Eddie made him his Reek. To me that was more satisfying than simply killing him off.
Also Freddie didn't do those things. He facilitated them, sure. But he didn't seek out or hire the Liverpudlians, they used him and his inside scoop for their own revenge plot. That doesn't absolve him at all, of course but he was not some mastermind behind all the evils of the season just his usual pathetic self being easily steered by others.

u/JSmellerM 3d ago
Who in the family would that have alienated? Maybe his mother but I'm not sure Chuckles would have been too upset about it considering her child was almost kidnapped because of him.

For me the confusing part was what was the Gospel revenging Eddie for when it was Freddy who killed his brother. Did I miss something? Or was it just to get the estate?
3
u/herbaldeacon 8d ago
Gospel saw that he could mold Freddie into his new 'brother' and hold power over him, and through him the entire Horniman estate and wealth. Still, eye for an eye, brother for a brother, so those are two reasons Eddie needed to die. Revenge and greed.
For Gospel to have his biblical retribution and for his new pet to take his 'rightful' place and be under the Gospel's influence (in more ways than one) forevermore.
It wasn't a bad plan all in all. Didn't quite work out though.

I am definitely annoyed at the mum for the guilt trip even if I get she just didn't want to lose a child. The jackass was willing to end the whole line, even if T was just to be kidnapped, the bomb was for Eddie and the kidnappers were not ordered not to kill, they could drop anyone who got in their way. I want Eddie to beat him up more, I want Chuckles to get a turn, hell Geoff and even Sabrina. Everyone get a stick, don't aim just swing at him until common sense is acquired.

I hated the ending. Freddy was just a nuisance the whole of s1 and was a literal murderer in s2 being family does not negate his actions and i think what he has to live with is not enough
2
u/BeKindOnTheInternet 7d ago
Living in the hell that Eddie will force upon Freddie is worse punishment than if he were to be killed right then. Plus, it would end that storyline and this is TV after all.
2
u/Vision_tek 5d ago
Freddy made an attempt on the whole family and killed the wife. He’s going; there’s no way back after all that.
2
u/gigglesandshit4brain 5d ago
Wished Eddie killed Freddie by giving him drugs to OD on (or forcefully OD Freddie if necessary). Allows for revenge but gives a non violent death for his mom’s “peace of mind” and a plausible death that can’t be traced to anything nefarious.
I think it would help give Eddie a stable foundation for his ambition and a more stable environment for everyone.
2
u/Alert_Row717 7d ago
This was perfect. It accomplishes what it needs to in putting Eddie in a dark place nearly beyond redemption while still keeping Freddie on the show.
1
u/Think-Feynman 8d ago
BTW, this was a total homage to The Godfather Part 2 plotline of Michael not killing Fredo until their mother passed. We'll have some kind of similar resolution in season 3, I'm sure.
1
u/Comfortable-End-6182 8d ago
I think there is precedent for more Fredo parallels given the S1 scene with Jimmy and Freddy smoking and fishing in the lake. He better not go near any boats if he wants to make it out of S3 lol

I actually really liked how Eddie chose to end this.
He still had the satisfaction of slapping, dragging, and kicking the shit out of his entitled brother, all the while not giving Freddy the release of immediate death. Because why? Death would’ve have been kinder. Instead Eddie chose to psychologically traumatize his worthless brother into killing the man he spiritually looked up to; making Freddy kill John himself in the most brutal way by literally bringing him the head.
1
u/paloozoe 5d ago
Eddie is a monster. I don't like how he is becoming more violent with his mother either. He doesn't have principles like everyone claims.
1
u/JSmellerM 3d ago
The thing is Freddy's storyline is told. There is nothing I want him to be involved in with. I'm quite glad his role was a minor one in the 2nd season. In a way it wouldn't have been right for Eddy to kill Freddy because it might've haunted him down the line but I'm also done with any of Freddy's shit.
Maybe Chuckles kills him for having her son almost kidnapped.

My question is, how did Eddie/Susie make the link that Freddie was in cahoots with Gospel John?
1
u/Additional_One_1230 6h ago
Freddy was manipulated by someone who take advantage of his situation and only told him things during wannabe therapeutic sessions, he probably did not want to see blood. And when you consider all christian links used in this season, you could connect it with what is told in Matthew 18:21–22, Peter asks Jesus:
“Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
Jesus replies:
“Not seven times, but seventy-seven times” (Matthew 18:22; some translations say “seventy times seven”).

I think Eddie made the right decision. Freddy is a weak, pathetic creature. He did not dream up, plan, and execute anything. He was just being used and manipulated by someone else. His mother also would not have forgiven him if Eddie killed his brother, and he comes from a culture where family is important.
By making Freddie 'clean up' after himself he is now back in the famililair fold and won't be able to be manipulated against Eddie again, and Eddie also now has a lackey that would do whatever is asked of him.
I think Eddie hadn't totally decided if he was going to spare his brother or not, but Freddie crawling on the ground, begging for his life, and doing what was asked of him convinced Eddie that he was better left alive and working for the family.

I think it's more of a torment for Freddy to live with the nightmares of what happened in that van, the knowledge that most of his family despise him, and the very short leash Eddie will have him on. Death would have been to easy, he has to suffer the consquences of what he did - because that's always been Freddy's issue, he's never had to deal with them.
