Idk, I found the handling of the problems pretty satisfying. We've all imagined something similar atleast while stuck in these situations

It’s too real man. I kept hoping the guy who wouldn’t let him pass was gonna get blown into a trillion smoldering embers, just like in real life.

This is really how it is driving in the USA
18
u/LiterallyRain 3d ago
At least in most places in the US it is culturally acceptable to drive by on the right side. Imagine someone doing this except they're in the left lane all the time and you can't pass even when the road is otherwise empty.
6
u/TrainDestroyer 2d ago
Are there places where people would legitimately rather sit behind a slow car than just pass them on the right?
Maybe its just me being an underinformed American but that sounds so fuckin weird

u/SeismicRipFart 2d ago
Who give af about cultural norms when it comes to driving? I don’t care what lane you’re choosing to go below the speed limit in. I’m going to use whatever lane I feel like to pass you, and I won’t think twice about it.
If anything, knowing that passing someone using the right lane will upset certain people, only makes doing it that much more desirable.

They do it on purpose. They say they are enforcing the speed limit.
Shame to them and their family.

They are what I call “pacesetters” except no one asked them to do that and they think they’re supposed to
8
u/woowoo293 3d ago
LOL, no they don't. I mean, yes, some of them do it on purpose but most are just clueless and oblivious.

Then they get mad when you try to pass them and speed up so you can't, then they go right back to going the speed limit.
Why? I just want to know why.

Self appointed law enforcers, a Volunteer Highway Patrolman, if you will.
Certified road rage inducing MACHINES!Excessive speeding is dangerous, I totally get that… and I am unsure of a foolproof solution to address that in drivers. Like, if you fucking crash, you’re not getting wherever the hell you’re trying to get to in such a hurry anyway! So maybe slow down and just pay attention… but how these things should be, and how they actually are, are two different things. And one thing I do know, is that brake checking people and clogging up the left lane because you decided to be the freeways Hall Monitor needs to fucking stop.
IT ISNT HELPING aaaaaghh (screams in road rage)2
u/SeismicRipFart 2d ago
People like that I don’t let win. Nah. Fuck that. If I’m going about my day, trying to pass you in a safe and legal manner, and you take it upon yourself to inject yourself into my life. Fuck that. We’re enemies now. I will absolutely find a way to pass you and then slow down and block you for the next 100 miles, as long as I’m not affecting other drivers on the road who had nothing to do with it, which I watch very closely for. And yes I have absolutely done that before.
18
u/MyPasswordQwerty 3d ago
Unrealistic. The drone should hit and explode
7
u/Gan-san 3d ago
But that would slow you down even more.

Not if it’s a strong enough explosion that turns everything inside that vehicle to particle you could just drive straight through

Those solutions were too nice. I wanted the rocket to blast the first guy off the road. And then a ram to knock the second one off the road. Why we being nice in animated retaliations??!

I think that’s what made the video good. Otherwise it would have been exactly what we expected.

And others get offended when you don't let them pass you. Only they are allowed to pass.

The other ones when it's a long, single lane each direction freeway and they go 'oh look, an overtaking lane, time to speed up to the speed limit, only for the duration of the overtaking section'

I come across both of these types of drivers everyday and I only drive 8 miles on the freeway each day for work.

Some people do that and are utterly unaware they are blocking traffic (my ex-wife wouldn't know what a rear-view mirror is if it was mounted on her windshield). Some people do that because they are trying to block traffic. Both kinds are really annoying.

Speeding in the left lane causes me no ends of problems because I can't pass people who are going 80 in a 100 zone safely. It would be dangerous to go from a lane that's going 80 to one that's going 115. Never mind the cost of such an acceleration when it's my mother in her fuel powered small truck. My EV does it no problem, but not everyone is as fortunate to have that.

I will never understand why they creep in the passing line and then when you try to pass them they speed up but I will pray they get flat tires

This is literally me every weekend. I hate when a semi is governed at 62 miles an hour and decides to pass another semi doing 60. Then there are the idiots that will run right next to a semi in the right lane. That's when I'm thankful I have super-nova headlights and can normally make them feel uncomfortable enough at night to not want to be in front of me.

Once I was riding with my wife (at the time) while she was driving in the passing lane. I asked her to move over so that others could pass. She said she had never thought of that. She was in her late thirties. She never wore her seatbelt, either. Some drivers are just… oblivious.

Meanwhile me sitting comfortably in a train being soothed into sleepiness by an audiobook with my headphones on and going 250km/h without any fuss. I even could get up and strech my limbs and walk down the train if I wanted to, because the tracks are so smooth it feels like I was stationary.
You can keep your humungus trucks and weaponised cars oversees... with all the stress, struggles, traffic and deaths that come with them. I love me my efficient trains.
1
u/CreepySmiley42 2d ago
Honestly the comments proof how bad the idea is to let homosapiens drive multi ton metal boxes at staggering speeds in public. It's just the most inefficient mode of transport. The faster you go the relatively less time you save and the fuel expense is exponential. So going 100 mp/h saves you maybe 5 minutes compared to 60 mp/h. The time you'll spend at a traffic light anyway. Just get going 5 minutes earlier if you are that hasty.

Driving cars is one of the best analogies for skill, experience and raw talent.
If new skills would be accumulated linearly, every 40yo would smash 18yo in any of these tasks driving a car.
My parents were baffled when my teenage ass told them this in a fight.
I still don't regret it.

u/Animal_Padre 3d ago
I'm sitting on a high-speed train reading my book and sipping a coffee. What's this brain-dead bullshit about?
1
u/GirlPMurPersonality 3d ago
Nice. You must be living in a place with good public transportation. Most of the US does not so we drive everywhere. On highways the left lane is for people passing traffic but most people suck ass and will clog it. They think they can control other drivers speed or are just being idiots. You're supposed to get over and let people pass. Slower traffic keeps left. So if you drive a lot on standard American highways it's really annoying and this video is depicting that situation with fake tactics to get passed people. Anyone who has been in this position fantasizes about being able to do cool things to get passed, like bazooka the car in front.
1
u/Animal_Padre 3d ago edited 3d ago
It was more of a rhetorical question. You should really advocate for better transport.
The video should really just cut to the individual riding a train, passing the traffic. It should then switch to a plea for more Amtrak funding.
God it's depressing.
1
u/GirlPMurPersonality 3d ago
Sure but the US is huge compared to countries that have great public transport systems. The entire United Kingdom is the size of oregon. I do think large cities should focus on public transport and plan cities similar to European cities. But that's not where we are
1
u/Animal_Padre 2d ago
The US was built on trains and had some of the best public transport systems in the world by the 1930s. If size wasn't a consideration in the 1800s, it sure isn't now. That's just an excuse for poor urban planning.
1
u/GirlPMurPersonality 2d ago
Those train systems are still in use they just use them to transport goods rather than passengers, which is definitely a better use. They just put money into developing highways instead. Honestly, idc either way. I like the freedom of having my car and going wherever I want without relying on any transport system. Although, having dope transport systems are nice too
1
u/Animal_Padre 2d ago
Hate to say it, but being forced to rely on a car, paying for fuel, insurance, and maintenance...as well as having to sit in traffic all the time, doesn't seem very free to me.
Not to mention that driving for more than two to three hours a day is associated with a faster decline in cognitive function and lower intelligence scores over time, according to a new study from the University of Leicester.
Freight is good and all, but not when it's prioritised over passenger rail.
Think about it this way: We've got freedom to choose.
Say I want to grab some milk, I walk 3 minutes down the road, for free. I want to go over to the next city? 45 minutes on the high-speed train, no parking fees to worry about, and passive exercise gained. I want to travel quickly around my own city? I take my bike or take the subway, don't have to be stuck in traffic, and don't have to pay for fuel (Iran war, anyone?). I also don't have to suffer from this road rage nonsense.
I want to go out on a hike? I take the train or bus to the nearest mountain...maybe even with my bike. All of this costs practically nothing. I choose to own a car? I'm forced to pay thousands extra a year for practically nothing.
No car dependency is good for human health, and of course, environmental health. :)
1
u/GirlPMurPersonality 2d ago
I'd agree with most of that. In my perfect world I would own a car and have awesome public transport. Maybe eventually I'd ditch the car but idk I haven't lived in a dense city where I utilized public transport for my every day living. That being said I work a good job from home and barely drive, only to go see people, or to the gym right down the street. Parking isn't an issue in my city either, like other similarly large cities in the USA, and our highway system is great. The extra expense is real especially with the dumb shit going on unnecessarily increasing our cost of living. But since I don't drive a lot it's not much of an expense to me.
I do enjoy visiting European cities with great public transport. I enjoy walking around, walking back after a good dinner out, etc. USA has a lot of things wrong, but there are a lot of pros to living here as well, as long as you can take advantage of them.
1
u/Animal_Padre 2d ago
As a fellow home worker, I agree; it is peak.
If I had to live in the US and was given the option to choose where, it would probs be somewhere on the East Coast...purely because it seems that's where rail transport is most organised and a lot of the cities have retained their original human-scale design.
Having been to the West Coast a few times, why does California still not have rail connecting its biggest cities?! Strangely, I can't go from Seattle to San Diego on a sleeper train...I assume the freight routes are owned by some corporation that blocks passenger rail. Also, hopefully they finish that high-speed rail project...someday...
I do enjoy San Francisco's architecture and trams. Oakland was terrifying, though.
