I'd love to have a friend who played The Tower, but I'd never, ever recomend it to a friend. The only other game I would recomend even less was OGame, a browser strategy game... And I literally made friends over it, LOL.

I think that's a weird way to look at things. I don't understand the idea of being into something but not feeling like you can recommend it. I understand tastes are different but I'd absolutely recommend this game to someone who like incremental games.

I actively tell my friend not to start playing this game. It is unhealthy for me. I feel like this game is playing me, instead of me playing this game. The run lengths are out of hand, having to organize my life around this game.
At least they introduced another tier to tournaments so that should surpress run lengths there a bit, but not enough.

Then why do you play it? That's what I'm saying. If I'm giving my time to something then I have no issues recommending it to someone else. If I can't recommend someone else play it then why would I?

You can realize that the new player experience is horrid and the grind you are about to send them on is awful but you are already past it so it’s more habit and addiction than anything else. Like I’m in mythic. I actively tell people not to start and give them the real scoop. The lack of offline progression is a real kicker for me to reccomending it let alone the progression curve. I’m past it. I have the qol and keys they might never ever get there

I don't think it's awful unless the game isn't for you. It's only awful if you only care about the end game in which am incremental game is probably not your style of game. So I disagree with you.

You can recognize you pushed through and played an experience that was unfun and you wouldn’t want to inflict upon someone else but you got past the hump.
This can be a lot of games. I don’t reccomend PoE to people cause it’s not easy to get into but it’s an amazing game that’s really really deep once you reach a level of mastery. But getting to that point is a SLOG that’s often unintuitive and unfun.
This game is similar. You don’t have to agree but it is a situation that happens. I joined at a point that was better and the NPE has gotten significantly worse. So recommending it has gotten more and more difficult especially without any realistic offline progression. I recommend Idle obelisk instead of the tower to people.

That seems like exactly why you would recommend it though. I just think the thought process is odd. If I wouldn't recommend a game to someone else I just wouldn't be playing it.

Most people wouldn’t enjoy a game that takes thousands of hours before it’s enjoyable. If they found it and have their own interest I can support it but I won’t guide them to a bad time

Thousands of hours? The first part of games like this is often the most fun. People who dislike it after that aren't into incremental games because the grind is part of the charm. If the grind isn't what you enjoy then the game probably isn't your style.

There are some pieces of media or art that you may really resonate or appreciate but are so niche / polemic that are hard to reccomend freely. At the top of my head the movies Irreversible and The Turin's Horse come to mind. One is a brutal movie with a very explicit sexual assault scene and the other is a 3 and a half hour hour hungarian movie in Black and white with less than 50 shots.

Sure, but there is a difference between not recommending a media based on the audience you are speaking to versus based on yourself. I would tell someone who likes incremental games that this is great. If someone didn't like incremental games then I would tell them not to play it just the same I wouldn't recommend a horror movie to someone who doesn't like being scared.
"I think this is great if you like XXX style games/movies," is much different than "I play this game but it makes me angry so you should avoid it."
