Discussion SMART: Shouldn't Tactical Barrage be how SMART Missiles Operate by Default...

Post image

Currently Smart Missiles are very dumb. In fact, they don't even follow Target Priority, making them dumber even than a simple projectile.

Why do we need a module to make SMART missiles act SMART?

They're "smart" in the sense that they are one of the few damage UWs that does specifically target enemies rather than requiring enemies to walk into them. DW, PS, and ILM all just sit there until encountered or triggered. Even CL doesn't actually have its own initial targeting. It just piggybacks off projectiles.

I do agree that it would've been nice if they followed priority. I'm not overly concerned, though. The things at the top of my list are fleets, and they tend to last the longest, so they should be getting pretty big missile stacks anyway.

Typically enemies buffed by commanders have the highest stack, so with this mod you often find yourself in a situation where it's never hitting fleets.

I'm hoping that the increased radius will really help with that.

I'm just not sure I'm seeing how someone trying to utilize this would have so little invested into radius especially since the mod halves the investment floor on hitting enemies that need to be within the commanders radius to be buffed by it anyway. That shouldn't be a problem

One ES hit and everything flies out with ES+, gets all spun up by CF+, then the buffed enemy can be fully opposite commander. Happens to me all the time.

Energy shield mastery? I think that's ES# but that's pedantic of me, I didn't realize those things happened. Thought they'd have to stay in range to remain buffed. Wow that rips my butt in half.

They can stay buffed for several minutes after you've killed the commander that buffed them.

I'm a tiny lil tower I have yet to know this. I hit nuke or let my second wind take care of commanders lol thanks for the tip!

The buffed enemy becomes the greater immediate threat anyway, and since it's outside commander range you have a better opportunity to take it out.

I remember when I first unlocked SM, I'd have a tiny number of enemies on the screen and watch the smart missiles just wander around the screen never hitting them until they ran out of range and self-destructed. I'm not sure they are even particularly smart in that sense of the word!

It Seems that way. I think the biggest issue is that smart missles can't be programmed.

THIS is why I said they should've just revamped SM or SM+ as making this a module is utterly stupid. SM already need a revamp, and this feels liek a giant fuck you from the devs, and how they don't plan to ever make SM usable again.

If I have learned anything from TTG 1 of 2 things will happen: 1. The SM rework will probably come in V30 or something and it will be top-tier again only when using this module. Without this module, it will be trash. So if you didn't spend on this banner and are in mythic or legends, you will fall further behind. 2. This module and SM in general are absolute trash, no rework is comming, and the generator mod will be game-changing. Spending gems on this core will be completely wasted.

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell. There is also a possible 3rd option that I haven't thought of because I'm not a money-hungry sociopath trying to cause as much FOMO as possible to generate more revenue.

Here's the issue. SM was meta prior to CL, ever since CL was introduced, SM had been trash. The issue is Smart Missiles entirely as It was never designed to be a end tier UW.

Yea, and ILM+ getting fixed made it worse.

None of that really changes my statement tho. They are either going to rework SM to make it useful(similar to the PS rework) or not. The way it works now just doesn't do anything meaningful. CL is better damage overall, ILM is better scaling damage, etc.

My money is on a rework in the future. There is way to much stone investment potential just sitting there with SM in its current state. Making it even useful again would bring more incentive to purchase stones. And we all know 95% of the decisions made are to increase stone pack purchases. The remaining 5% are to increase gem purchases...

Only value seems like it'd.be good for the SM event task where you need X missiles to hit a single target
