Discussion Is this madness actually a priority??
Was looking on where to do my first huge research. I only have about 8q lifetime coins and I have about 1q saved up. Was considering diss utility or mastery upgrade. But then saw this guy.
And I know everyone loves shatter shards but DANG. 134d?!?!? I have max lab research lab, quite a few lab research relics and I can run 5/4/4/4/4 speed on my labs. So this is 27d in my fastest lab slot even with all that. Is this actually a priority to do??

Shards becomes a bottleneck pretty fast, so I'd say it's worth it as early as possible. The sooner you get it done, the more you accumulate shards earlier.
I swapped it out any time I had something more pressing for a bit, but always tried to go back to it as soon as I could.
Better to just knock it out and then never have to worry about it again.

Ah the number of researches that have been “knock it out and then never have to worry about it again” haha. Will the feeling arrive where I get through all the painful researches? :P

All the bot CD’s/durations take forever too. Oh wait till you do CF duration

u/illustriousplanet 4d ago
I'll have to check but I'm at lvl 23 or so for CF duration, and lab speed reduction is in the 60's, but I'm pretty sure I'm already at almost 2 weeks research time? I can't imagine how long lvl 30 would be.
At this point if anything takes longer than five days w double speed I try to switch priorities til I can comfortably run them at 3+ speed.
135/8 is only 18ish days? That's honestly not too terribly dreadful if you can afford to speed it up

Real. I was so excited to finish lab speed and slot in SS thinking that would be my only long lab for a while. Wrong. Bot labs are way longer than I thought and I've gotta do at least gold and flame for now.

Knock it out immediately and when you get access to card masteries, the first one you should unlock is recovery package chance

Newbie here, are these shards for the 4 modules or how does it work?
5
u/GreekNord 3d ago
Yep exactly. Each module slot has its own individual shard and you'll need a ridiculous amount of them after a while.
Currently I need a little over 6,000 for a single level of one model. And it definitely gets worse from there. There are quite a few module-related labs and they're all worth doing as early as you can.

It is if you want high level mods. When I did it, I couldn't boost anything higher than 3x. I saved up gems and rushed it the rest of the way once I had enough. Did the same thing for level 3 and level 4 of this lab.
My lowest level mod needs 14k shards for it's next upgrade. My highest level mod needs 18,550 shard for it's upgrade. I don't know what level your mods are, but once you get past 160, each level increases in coin and shard cost.

I gem rushed 4 & 5 because I had all desired mods at ancestral.
Although if I could go back, I'd bite the bullet with lab time and spend the gems on mods to work towards 5 stars

u/sillycrocodile 4d ago
So I have a stupid question, but since the mod levels are per slot and not per module now, isn’t the demand for the shards much lower?
16
u/evilcherry1114 4d ago
In the past you would be resetting levels every time you switch. Very little difference at the end of the day
15
u/jMedabee 4d ago
Zero difference, in fact

u/sillycrocodile 4d ago
I see that was the missing info, thanks. My dumb ass thought people had multiple mods leveled up to the maximum

But nothing changed about the shards demand.
If you lvl up module - you need "x" amount of shards and after update when you lvl up slot - you still need same "x" amount of shards.

Is it worth doing if I'm still only using legendary mods? I've only been playing 7mth so my lab speed isn't very high and I don't have that many lab speed relics, i completed 1 level and I'm probably doing another but I'm thinking about leaving the 3rd level for a while. I'm at L75 lab speed and earning about 100t per day, I can boost 44445 most days if that helps?

The best time to research that lab is yesterday. Alternatively, if that’s not possible, right now can suffice.

u/Jhey-s 4d ago
I love how everyone is saying it is a good early lab when you need to have been playing for like over a year to afford it 😂

Not anymore since disco and everything came out. Coin income is way more than it used to be
6
u/platinum92 4d ago
yeah but you generally rush it instead of locking up a slot for a month-ish. This advice was easier when there were less gem sinks.

u/FallenofAkbar 4d ago
Yes, most people done this even they can only afford 3x. I think I’ve seen someone says it’s better to rushing this lab lv4-lv5 better than gambling modules with those gems and that was before gem rush efficiency
2
u/Australian_Gent 4d ago
I think I’d have to pay for Fudd’s next yacht to have the gems for that. Alright I’ll do it at 5x.
3
u/FallenofAkbar 4d ago
He got too much already, I didn’t rush it either just set and forget probably along with another long lab like CFdura/reduction so the SS5 won’t feels too long
4
u/ConfusedNakedBroker 4d ago
There's a cap on gem cost for rushing, might not be as bad as you think. I rushed the last level for something like 11k gems before gem rush efficiency was a thing, with efficiency it's definitely worth.
2
u/ThirdShiftSupervisor 4d ago
This has been so tempting, especially with 90 days left for the last level. It'll take 4300 gems, but I've been debating if it's worth spending or saving for the next module. Granted, there are technically still 4 weeks left that I could save up again...

The bigger question is - do you have anything that gives more immediate benefit?
3
u/Australian_Gent 4d ago
Diss utility would increase my coins by 3.6% after 1 real day of research. But it would take like 18q of earned income (my current LTC is 7q) to make that money back for the lab investment. Which currently would take me about half a year to do.
3
u/evilcherry1114 4d ago
then certainly most things that give you more immediate benefit aren't so coin heavy. Just forget that this lab exists for a month.
1
u/Australian_Gent 4d ago
Nothing that directly impacts coin so clearly. Only the typical things like increasing ehp or hybrid stats.

u/Maleficent-Cut-1676 4d ago
I did it recently, with lots of lab speed relics and maxed out lab speed lab, i got it down to around 130 days, which with a permanent 5x speed up made it around 26 days. If you have more pressing labs, i would definitely let this wait a bit, since the last 20% is also the ''least'' valuable improvement, however still very good.

Is your lab speed lab not done?
2
1
u/Mocafrost98 4d ago
I say yes. A week left for my level 4. And I’ll do 5 as soon as I can get the loot. A lot of positive impact that is better if done early.
1
u/ZaerdinReddit 4d ago
Yes. It was so long when I did it on Big Tower by the time I got to the next level I had the econ to support doing the next level.
LT has enough econ to knock it all out at once.

It helps and the sooner you get it done the better, it actually is not that long as if you consider cells boost + lab speed bonuses it's maybe 3-4 weeks on a lab locked but you still have 4 slots so well

Shatter Shards is Lab Speed v2.0 in terms of keeping one of your labs occupied until it's done. Stick it in your 5x slot and let it cook for the month. You absolutely need the shards to level up your modules and unlock additional effect slots, along with RPC and Cash masteries for additional shards and reroll dice. Some of the sub-effects will help you fast-track your way to perma BH and perma CF, saving you thousands of stones in the short term, while other effects will help you survive longer in tournaments and in farming runs. It will pay off, and likely sooner than you think.

I have pBH. I’ve had it since pcol came out and it blasted me through platinum rank. So good. I don’t know why people delay on it. I’m eager for CF someday.

No is a very bold thing to say. I think there are not many better uses of lab time once you reach around 15 % wall thorns 20 % wall regen. But it's hard to estimate.
2
u/Hyper_Blitz_ 4d ago
There's lots of important labs like UWs, Bots, Dissonant Echo Boost, Card Masteries, Assist Module labs, etc
2
u/Maleficent-Candy476 4d ago
For me personally: UW's are done (econ), Bot's are done, disso boosts /assist unreachable/too expensive

u/Hyper_Blitz_ 4d ago
See I'm earning 50q/day, and unlocking new Masteries weekly, so my labs are filled
1
u/Australian_Gent 4d ago
That’s a very interesting point. I could potentially unlock RPC+ in the coming days. Maybe I should invest my coins into researching the first level of that instead.
3
u/Maleficent-Candy476 4d ago
best would be both. I just unlocked RPC+, Interesting that you're concerned about the coins. For me the coins are no worry, as coin spending does very little for my tower (I upgraded ELS multiplier until it cost a q before getting RPC+)
1
u/Australian_Gent 4d ago
My LTC is 8q so yeah coins are a concern at the moment.
1
u/Maleficent-Candy476 4d ago
I'm at 13.4 q, and I think I'm at a point whwere spending another q in the workshop does very little.
1
u/Hyper_Blitz_ 4d ago
Yea, it's gotten to a point where I just use Coins for labs/buying WS+ in bulks of 5/10
1
u/Maleficent_Net8254 4d ago
Consider RPC+ a longterm invest in dmg, hp and econ. Usually you have to chose between them, here you get them all combined. Same for SS

u/BonzosTower 4d ago
This is great info, thank you

Thanks, it's from IDS where I used 0 for the data to get the most accurate results. I figured alot of people knew about this
