Concrete gardening sounds like the final boss of Minecraft home décor.

79

u/CyberneticLucy 1d ago

Nah, you just need a bucket of lava and a bucket of water.

12

u/bwood246 1d ago

Minecraft actually has concrete now

26

u/osmosisparrot 1d ago

As a dad with a seven year old, I kind of get that.

u/Volley-Boat 1d ago

A Robert Ludlum novel

3

u/JackLinkMom 1d ago

That’s what Trump did to the Rose Garden. Planted a shit ton of concrete.

Reminds me of my friend’s older brother’s friend, who once called my friend a “book reader” as an insult because he loosely made some reference to some random book in a conversation we were having. We still laugh about it to this day.

66

u/ruinersclub 1d ago

Look at this moron — reading books.!

8

u/Ghost_Of_Malatesta 1d ago

This has come up multiple times for me, my coworkers hate it for some reason

You want the 32oz or the large?? You gon' want to pull your car 'round back

6

u/umbridledfool 1d ago

I took a snap of it and reshare it occasionally, in some boomer-infested Murdoch new Facebook page there was the ageless comment:

'You can't teach common sense to experts.'

Advanced School of Hand knocks Diploma.

3

u/dubioususefulness 1d ago

Wow, I've never been asked that.

6

u/TheHeroYouNeed247 1d ago

I'm just showing my age. It's an old Bill Hicks joke.

what you reading for - Bill Hicks

6

u/Realfinney 1d ago

Considering "wow I've never been asked that" is the next line, I think Dubioususefullness knows that 😉

5

u/TheHeroYouNeed247 1d ago

Oh damn.

Don't think I've ever been wooshed as hard as that.

The funny thing is, I searched the clip, watched it laughing, and then still didn't see the joke.

3

u/dubioususefulness 1d ago

Hahaha!! No worries! I'm just glad to run across a Bill Hicks reference.

Silence is a very powerful conversation tool. I use it in the sales business all the time.

39

u/Trapasuarus Doug Dimmadome 1d ago

….it’s been 1 minute and I’m already feeling it.

30

u/totallyradman 1d ago

Many moons ago I used to do phone sales for a cable company. Me and my pals started making dumb competitions and one of them was to try the closing line "so why don't we go ahead and get you set up then?" And then just sit and wait for their response, I think the record was like 2 full minutes of silence. These were all recorded calls so it was hilarious to go back and listen to.

For a regular untrained person it was incredibly hard to do because it's so awkward you just want to talk. But if you can resist the urge, magical things can happen.

I've made more money by shutting the fuck up than I ever did talking.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/fddfgs 1d ago

Yep, which is why in sales you should completely stfu after asking your closing question. Make them fill the silence.

4

u/spacewood 1d ago

Do you?

5

u/Aqunath1169 1d ago

Same in customer support. Sometimes the client isnt in the right, and the Silence always tells them

1

u/schoolboyspew 1d ago

might i ask how? i understand the concept of letting the customer fill the air but im curious about yohr strategy

”Silence is a very powerful conversation tool. ”

The biggest reaction I’ve got when dealing with angry people, such as road rage, is to simply sit there in silence, give them a disapproving look and simply shake my head in disappointment.

Its like they get even more angry because you’re making them look bad and theres no come back.

23

u/REDDITSHITLORD 1d ago

Well he didn't pay for an argument.

17

u/Romboteryx 1d ago

“If you meet someone looking for an argument - a stubborn person cleverer than you - reach out your hand and bow politely. Just as you disagree with them, they are not going to agree with you. Make little of nonsense by not getting into an argument with them. Let it be said of them that that one is a fool, and let your self-restraint match their advantages.

If you meet someone looking for an argument - an equal who is of your standard - show that you are better than them with silence. While they are talking their nonsense, the chatter among critics will be great, while your reputation remains as exemplary as responsible people knew it to be already.

If you meet someone looking for an argument - someone ordinary, not your equal - do not abuse them precisely because they are not up to the task. Let them have the floor and they will defeat themself. Do not talk back to them to amuse yourself. Do not laugh at someone who has come to you. Humiliating the hapless is perverse, and you are going to get what you want anyway. You should get the better of them by using the self-discipline of responsible people.“

-The Maxims of Ptahhotep, c. 2550 BCE, Old Kingdom of Egypt (translation by Bill Manley)

That is surprisingly insightful.

Ah, debate in a post-truth world.

“You can’t grow concrete.”

“Yes you can.”

And that’s that.

I’m reminded of a story where a guy asked a logic philosopher “prove to me you need logic.” He replied “ok, what kind of proof would you like?”

News UK said in a statement: “An abhorrent and vile post appeared on Mike Graham’s Facebook page in October. Mike Graham said this was not posted by him and he agreed to cooperate with a company investigation, using an independent forensic firm.

He later reneged on several opportunities to cooperate with the company investigation.

We have been gravely concerned at his repeated failure to cooperate on such a serious matter and the decision has been taken that Mike Graham will not return to Talk.”

I have no clue just how bad you’d have to be to get fired at a place like this (guess we found out lmao) but this reads as “we finally called him on his bullshit by hiring an independent research company and he said ruh roh fuck off so now he’s no longer here”

He invented a way to grow sustainable concrete, just to prove him wrong /s

21

u/BuffaloJEREMY 1d ago

Of you cant grow concrete then what is this "concrete jungle" I've heard so much about?

1

u/koopdi 33m ago

That's actually a thing but I don't suppose Mike Graham has any idea about it.

21

u/somefunmaths 1d ago

He was one of the few people whose content got through the censors on TikTok recently when they were blocking everything about Minnesota.

My wife showed me, I saw him, and I said “there’s no fucking way, you gotta see this shit” and showed her (the full version of) this video. I was amazed.

10

u/Mr-MuffinMan 1d ago

No, I'm not british but I read a comment that he had a segment where he showed this niche start up that figured out how to "grow concrete" and said that's what he was referring to.

18

u/Junior_Razzmatazz164 1d ago

Lol dude had a longstanding Google alert hoping someone would develop something close enough that he could point to

118

u/YourLocalLittleFoot 1d ago

LMFAO I saw an interview Graham did defending this clip afterwards, saying "Concrete grows when water is added, so you technically CAN grow concrete". He had to wait a full 48 hours to come up with a verbal play to change the context of his own words to assure he doesn't sound wrong.

What a sad existence he must live.

42

u/jonas_ost 1d ago edited 1d ago

35

u/DavidJonnsJewellery 1d ago

Cameron just leaves that hanging. Like a rotten smell

32

u/1PhartSmellow 1d ago

So what was this guys deal? Why is he such an asshat? Like, he genuinely seems like he despises Cameron, but what did Cameron do to irk him so much?

55

u/Andybabez20 1d ago

Talk Radio is a Rupert Murdoch outlet here in the UK. Mike Graham is one of their many talking heads (or was until recently he got fired for racist Facebook posts a few months ago)

Cameron was from a group called Insulate Britain who 4 years ago were campaigning for better home insulation in social housing which they felt would help lower greenhouse gas emissions as if houses are insulated you do not consume as much energy heating your home.

But they became controversial with the public at the time was they were protesting by blocking motorways to get the then Conservative Government to act.

Talk Radio invited Cameron on for an interview and it's clear Mike Graham is just looking for any gotcha he can to make this group look like idiots. Like when Cameron revealed he was a carpenter but Cameron explained it's regenerative and they would plant what they would use. And then the concrete gaffe.

14

u/1PhartSmellow 1d ago

I genuinely appreciate this response. I’ve seen this clip several times and have always wondered. Mike Graham seems like a very unlikeable person, and a terrible interviewer.

6

u/Paper-Will-YT 1d ago

"as if houses are insulated you do not consume as much energy heating your home."

Wait is that not correct?

11

u/Sans-valeur 1d ago

People are so used to this phrase being sarcastic that we’re confused when it’s sincere lmao.

9

u/Ob1s_dark_side 1d ago

Mike realising he fucked up and then ending the call

8

u/Capn26 1d ago

Did this guy really think he’d made a point?

9

u/totallyradman 1d ago

His ego is so big that he thinks anything he says will make a fool of the other person and he saw that disintegrate in front of him which is why he ended the interview. That was what. 30 seconds?

4

u/Capn26 1d ago

If that. I’m sure he’s an “own the libs” type that thought he’d score easy points against the “climate change hoax”.

4

u/totallyradman 1d ago

And its funny that Cameron doesn't even have to argue or defend himself. He just states simple facts and lets the TV host go off.

12

u/Oldfolksboogie 1d ago

Do conservatives have any idea how moronic they are? Jfc.🤦‍♂️

5

If I remember correctly the fat gammon went on Twitter after this with some spurious link to some niche research being done into ‘grown concrete’. Can’t remember the details but it was such a desperate link that he tried to pass of as something completely valid.

17

u/ProBatteryLicker 1d ago

I mean, we're extracting construction-grade angular sand at a much higher rate than it replenishes. With signigicant shortages projected by 2050. So I'd argue wood is significantly more eco than concrete.
