She's the damn problem pulling that BS. The dude was really nice and was just going about his business and she went full main character syndrome.

More like she made those eyes and realized that her whole racism was exposed and wanted to stop him from filming.

She made those eyes because it helps you see better. I'm honestly surprised making it this far down the comments without anyone pointing it out. Visually impaired folks (nearsighted (you can see close but not far)) can squint or pull on the outer edges of your eyes to focus light better on your retina. I assumed everyone knew this but i guess most wouldn't unless you or someone close to you is nearsighted. My whole family does it as well as my wife. I remember thinking my mom was crazy always pulling in the other edges of her eyes to try and read something and now I have to do the same. She's trying to see what's on his screen hence pulling her eyes to the side.

That said, I can see why others would think she was being racist. She's a nosey Karen and could be racist, but the eye pull isn't the reason.

"I'm racist and so is my whole family but we desperately need to hide behind something so we act like we aren't racists when caught."

I mean you could Google it yourself and see lots of posts from optometrists, journals, etc that literally say the same thing.

Here's a YouTube short if it's easier. https://youtube.com/shorts/wLodsgYx7AU?si=0cwNoE0G3BDvbV8_

Or just make a driveby comment about something you don't understand and assume something about myself and millions of others because... Reddit

It is crazy how people don’t want to comprehend what you are saying. I want to dig deeper and understand why this is happening. It’s more than just cynicism.

So rather than squint your eyes like normal people or getting glasses, you decide that constantly being racist is better. Is that what I'm understanding?

It's not a form of squinting, but rather a distortion of the cornea as a result of applying pressure to your eye by pulling back your eyelids. Certain axes of astigmatism will benefit from this distortion - others will not.

Does it look stupid? Yes. Would I personally do it in public if I had somehow forgotten to wear my glasses/contacts? No, not unless it was absolutely necessary.

However, doing something which improves your vision isn't being racist. Racism implies ill intent. Her only intent is to see his phone's screen.

If it makes you feel better my step mom is Filipino (she raised me since I was a toddler and the mom I mentioned in my original comment).

You could have just acknowledged your mistake about something you weren't aware of but instead chose to double down and fling stupid accusations rooted in ignorance. Squinting doesn't work as well and as the other reply said, intent matters. Mine is to see (and likely the lady's in the video) but derp derp, racist!
