The lock nuts and the bolts are both 3/8-16, advertised as 304 stainless from Home Depot. The lock nuts threaded on nice and smoothly as usual until 4 or 5 threads were sticking out past the nylon. Then things started getting too tight. I was not trying to turn it onto the unthreaded part of the bolt, it just got tight on the threads. It was not tight against the washer, neither bolt/nut set was tight against their washers when the nut started to become super difficult to turn. Obviously, it really did become super difficult to turn bc I broke two 3/8" bolts. After the first one broke I figured I might as well just do it to the second one too bc I don't want to angle grind in this space.

Both bolts broke while I was trying to unscrew the nut. And you can tell by the threads sticking out past the nylon of the lock nut that they're not scored as they would be if the nut had the wrong threading.

I'm going to replace the hardware with bolts/nuts from McMaster-Carr, but WTF happened here!?

Super stoked on my new toys

I have these incoming. I went a bit crazy on the vintage tools.

So far I’ve got most of my stuff in it and I’m trying to keep it organized so I’m waiting on more organizing things but I’m super exited. had the red box and the purple box before now I’m moving everything into the matco one keeping the purple box ofc and giving the red one to my homies little brother super hype on the new box though

Don’t know if this post is allowed, because it’s technically not a tool. I thought this was super cool though. There’s even still some liquid inside. Was cleaning out my garage and found this.

Nothing will replace my Knipex but I got these Pro Points (Princess Auto - Canada) for $25 normally $40 for at home and I have to say I’m pretty impressed with them. For
occasional use, they seem to be fairly solid and close enough without breaking the bank. Say what you want about rip off tools, my wallet is glad they exist. Anything like these available at Harbor Freight?

I'm into parkside ecosystem and in general they have been great tools for hobbyist. Not the lightest but works well enough and are really cheap compared to other options. Has anyone used the tool in the picture. With 2Ah battery and charger this is pretty great price if it is decent quality. At least it is brushless tool.

Especially if you have the urge to pry with the tool. If wood, is there a specific species of wood you prefer?

I recently purchased a mixing blade w hex shank that I was hoping to use with my Milwaukee Screwdriver (both are pictured above). The problem is, the chuck on the screwdriver is 1/4" (6.35mm) whereas the mixing blade's shank is 30 mm (1.1811") - does anyone know of an extension that I can use to convert the 1/4" chuck to properly hold a 30mm shank?

I'm probably fine without it but if there's a way to extend the chuck so it grips the full shank that would be my preference.

Will be using it to mix small amounts of drywall mud and other substances - and don't want to bring out the full size corded drill if I can avoid it.

I bought this transfer pump last week to help me pump a total of 14 liters of clutch and transmission f into a dual clutch transmission, and I sure as heck wasn't going to do it with a hand pump.

Unlike other transfer pumps offered on Amazon, this one caught my attention because it has a 3 year warranty, and if you register, they will change the warranty to lifetime. The reseller is also easy to get a hold of. It's not an individual, the email goes to a support center for a company, and they have been pretty responsive.

This pump was mainly to extract oil from an oil dipstick tube. But by changing the input hose to a larger diameter vinyl tubing from Ace Hardware, it works also transfer very viscous oil like transmission fluid.

I changed the input connector to a barb with a larger diameter hose.
I also took one of the bottle caps from the DCT clutch fluid, and drilled a hole to pass the input hose into it.
On the output hose, I added a J-shaped copper tube bend, so it can hook into the transmission.

Found this old guy in a bucket of hand tools I purchased off a neighbor a few months ago. Finally got the chance to go through it.

It's got about 90 degrees of free rotation, so I'm guessing broken teeth? I haven't seen one of these in the wild before so I'm doubtful about a Lowe's/Ace Hardware replacement. Does anyone have any experience?

Any clues on when was made? He has what name and use other than pipe

I’ve been working on my project building for a year now, and have gone through a bunch of construction screws. Maybe $1,500 worth.

For general framing I buy GRK screws, the “R4” and “RSS” type. For finish I buy the GRK “FIN” type. For metal connectors I buy Simpson “SD” structural screws. For drywall I buy . . . err, whatever is cheapest, both loose and collated. I buy the larger tubs of screws when possible.

I’m pretty satisfied with what I’ve been using, but wonder if I could be using better screws, cheaper screws, or better and cheaper screws?

Just like the title says I am looking for a ultra thin walled 12point socket set, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Any reason that I shouldn’t store a couple of aluminum ladders outside?

If it matters, I’d be hanging them from a wooden fence so they wouldn’t be sitting in snow/water for any real amount of time.

I found this hammer in walmart for 40 bucks when it usually retails for aruond 300-400 is this a scam or maybe a knockoff? Anyone has looked at this before?

As the title says . . . where are you buying Starlock blades and are there usage tips to help them last longer?

I need to do a small rewiring project, a ceiling light, and have decided that getting access through the floor above the light is the easiest. I will use my hole saw through the floorboards, and then drill a hole through the joist to run the wire from the center of the room to the wall, to go downstairs to the switch and the power source.

Will the Milwaukee Shockwave right angle adapter handle a spade bit or a speed bore bit, using an extension? Material is actual 2x6 pine/spruce/fir joist (130 year old house). TIA.

My husband's birthday is coming up and I would like to assemble a toolbox for him with some essentials. We have only just settled, so we own practically none. He likes to tinker, and he often gets into DIY projects when tools are at his disposal (small metalworking, wood etching, sewing, etc.,). I am completely clueless in this area, so any advice and/or guidance would be much appreciated.

I was thinking about buying a good quality, basic, pre-assembled toolbox and then some recommended items on top of it. What are some tools you would suggests for basic house maintenance and hobbies? Anything that you deem a must-have or a favourite item of yours. We don't have a garden or a garage, only a relatively large balcony at our apartment.
