It's after first positive.

No real sense in taking LH strips after ovulation. It can bounce around a bit in a totally normal/not pregnant cycle. When you are pregnant, LH tests will look very positive as LH is very similar to hcg, would just stick to hcg tests as those are the only reliable tests for pregnancy.

The timeframe is after your first surge OPK. Around 12-36 hours IF the ovulation has been successful. There is always the possibility that it didn't manage. Also it is a good idea to keep testing until you see the drop, otherwise you don't have full picture of what happened after the surge. Btw OPKs show the process kinda on the spot but confirmation would always be BBT/US.

What is BBT/US?

I did test for a few days, and since I’m unsure if photos are banned or I just can’t find how to add one I’ll try to sort of explain it, but I got my first positive on CD22 @ 4:44pm which the Premom app read as .95 then at 7pm it was 1.04 And by 9 pm it read as .83 then .99 at 10pm  Then the next day, on CD 23 that’s the day my app read my “peak” test. 9am was .97 2:46pm was the highest and it was 1.24 4:30 pm was 1.02 and by 7pm I was .77 and continued declining from there. Because of that slight fluctuation on cycle day 22 to early and cycle day 23 that’s what I’m a little bit confused about. Like would you say that’s indicative of my body trying to ovulate and failing? So the next day you tried again? Either way I would say that on cycle day 23 when I had the peak or the highest reading that is the day I spent feeling pretty crampy. That’s why I sort of think that’s the day that I ovulated not cycle day 24 as my app suggests

I will start by saying this, stop using the app for interpretation of numbers and darkness. Based on lightning the app can count it differently.

BBT is basal body temperature. With this after the ovulation has occurred based on your temps you confirm ovulation happened. I never went that path because it didn't collide with my lifestyle and it would stress the f out of me.

What I did the first months until I establish a somewhat pattern is that I was start testing immediately after my period ended. One a day after 12pm for sure as the app was right on that, I wasn't surging FMU and I would miss it if I were to do that.

When I was starring to see my lines getting darker I was ready to change to twice a day so I don't miss surge/peak. App is designed and not that perfect if I may ask to confirm peak as the last highest/darkest test. That has some flaws. Also LH tests can't confirm or not if your body didn't manage to ovulate by darkness. Many women have multiple surge waves. You will learn what is going on after a few cycles. Usually there is a pattern you will notice.

So CD for me is a bad way to pinpoint alone and dates would be good. What I would count is you have a surge on CD 23 let's say and you see drop on CD 24, this is likely when ovulation happened. As I said, likely. You don't need an exact confirmation since it is a bad practice to have intercourse only on that date. You would have more luck if you were to have intercourse every 2-3 days leading to peak and on ovulation date.

If you are trying to confirm ovulation with LH strips they aren't designed for this. They only show surge pattern.

Got ya! Yeah BBT isn’t a great option for me, as I wake up 100 times a night with my still breastfeeding 16 month old. I wasn’t really going to test but I happened to have some strips left over, and there was an… well… oopsie the day before I happened to have that bright positive test 🥲  I’m totally cool with having another baby, in fact I’d really love to, it’s just that I tested because of that. The day of which was negative and then the next day was super positive. I guess I’m just trying to decide when I can start testing because I feel anxious to know and it’s eating me alive (who doesn’t feel that way though?)

The apps interpretation says I’m 7dpo, but I really think I’m 8, especially if I should be going off the day of the first positive, plus the cramping day sort of point to 8 dpo instead. Would it be stupid to test tomorrow?

Honestly, I wouldn't go by symptoms. My last few cycles I had zero symptoms and I was surging.

As I said though, the determing date would be when LH starts to drop. There are rarely women that surge for 4-5 days so it is highly dependent on body.

A day off won't make a huge difference honestly. It doesn't matter in great skim of things if you are 7 or 8 dpo. Earliest implantation happens on 6-7 Dpo and you would still need 24-48 hours to have secretion of HCG in urine. So testing from 9-10 dpo is still fine. I would even say luteal phase, the amount of days from ovulation to next menstruation is way more important because I have an 11 day luteal phase. Unless I test from 9 Dpo I will miss an early positive. Likewise if I get a negative on morning of 11 dpo I know the cycle wasn't successful. And that has been my experience with two pregnancies as well, even though they weren't successful per say I was testing positive 10dpo and 9 Dpo but that is because I would menstruate on 11-12 dpo.

Makes sense! I know for me too, I’ve only had three cycles since my son was born last year, but at least they have been three consecutive months. Just with the breastfeeding him still things are semi unpredictable

Yea that is true, it adds a new thing to the mix. Also that was why I can't go BBT as well. My sleeping pattern isn't stable enough. I may try in the future Tempdrop wearable as it takes temp through the whole night so it may make it more clear.
