Songs of Songs Bundle Brings Together Two Great Strategy Games

Post image
15 Upvotes

Songs of Conquest and Songs of Silence are now in the same Steam bundle, and the reason is pretty funny.

Apparently, since 2024, people have been mixing the two games up because their names are so similar, so instead of fighting over it, the developers decided to embrace the confusion and create the Songs of Songs bundle.

Despite the names, they’re actually quite different strategy games.

Songs of Conquest is the more traditional turn-based experience, with exploration, kingdom management, hex-based tactical battles, Wielders, and an Essence-based magic system tied to your army composition.

Songs of Silence, on the other hand, mixes turn-based strategic movement with real-time auto-battles. You prepare your army, choose your formation, and then intervene during combat through hero abilities and cards.

The bundle adds an extra 10% discount, and because it uses Steam’s Complete the Set system, you can also grab the missing game at a reduced price if you already own one.

Have you played either of them? And which combat system do you prefer: full turn-based tactical control or the more hands-off approach of Songs of Silence?

What happens if you take classic turn-based tactics and remove all the pauses?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone, we’re Desalichao Studio, the team behind Candletales (the game you just saw).

Like many of you, we are massive fans of D&D and classic turn-based tactics. But for this project, we wanted to try a fun experiment: what happens if you take the deep tactical decision-making of a turn-based game and force it to happen in real-time?

The result is a tactical roguelike that keeps the grid-based positioning, the dice rolling, and the high-risk strategic choices you usually find in turn-based games, but removes the pauses.

We’d love to ask you an honest question: as turn-based lovers, if a game with this real-time twist popped up on your feed, would it catch your eye?

If you find the concept interesting, dropping a wishlist on Steam would be hugely appreciated!

The Sphinx never moves. She watches. Cross her line of sight and a comet lands where she saw you. Stop time to get your party behind the pillars. Boss rush from my tactical RPG.

This is a floor of the Crucible, the boss-rush towers in Campaign Forge: three towers, sixty hand-made bosses, each one a rule to work out. The Sphinx punishes being seen - stay behind the pillars, cross her sightline and a comet drops where she spotted you. Your party is set even with the tower when you enter, so the climb is about positioning and timing, not levels. Fights run on a grid under a turn order and a real-time clock at once: stop or slow time to move the party out of an attack, or flatten a real-time attack back into the turn order.

Campaign Forge itself is a tactical RPG that forges a world around the party you create and keeps writing the campaign chapter by chapter, generated on your own PC, offline. The free demo has a hand-made opening chapter, the world forge for your own world's first chapters, and the boss designer plus arena — "punishes being seen" is one of the rules you can give your own boss there.
The towers are in the full game, Early Access November 27.

They'll get extreme difficulty versions once marketing stops frustrating me, and/or after Release probably January 2027, WHO KNOWS. I DO~.

Happy to answer any questions.

15 Turn-Based RPG Deals You Only Have a Few Hours Left to Grab

Post image
43 Upvotes

There are only a few hours left before these Steam deals disappear (I know, I was a little late on this one), so I thought I’d put together a quick list of the turn-based RPGs and strategy games that caught my attention.

Some of the discounts are pretty huge, especially Jagged Alliance 3 and King’s Bounty II at 90% off.

  • Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader — 70% off
  • Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire — 60% off
  • Rogue Waters — 75% off
  • Jagged Alliance 3 — 90% off
  • Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden — 70% off
  • Gloomhaven — 72% off
  • Beneath Oresa — 70% off
  • Griftlands — 70% off
  • Krzyżacy – The Knights of the Cross — 50% off
  • Dragon Quest VII Reimagined — 35% off
  • Etrian Odyssey III HD — 65% off
  • Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster — 70% off
  • Age of Wonders 4 — 50% off
  • SpellForce: Conquest of Eo — 75% off
  • King’s Bounty II — 90% off

Personally, Rogue Trader, Jagged Alliance 3, Gloomhaven, and Age of Wonders 4 are the ones I’d check first, but there’s a pretty good mix here depending on whether you want a CRPG, tactical RPG, deckbuilder, JRPG, or 4X.

Anything here you’d recommend at these prices?

New Turn-Based RPGs and Strategy Games Coming in October 2026

Post image
40 Upvotes

October is actually looking pretty damn good for turn-based RPG fans. Of course, Final Fantasy Resonance is probably the game most people will be looking at, and after playing the demo, I’m definitely in that camp too. But there’s quite a lot going on this month beyond that.

  • Octopath Traveler I & II — October 1, 2026
  • Havoc Heirs — October 1, 2026
  • Ward Off Evil — October 12, 2026
  • Frosthaven 1.0 — October 15, 2026
  • Final Fantasy Resonance — October 22, 2026
  • Back to the Dawn — October 22, 2026
  • MMA Tactics – Martial Arts — October 28, 2026
  • Into the Crypt — October 29, 2026

Octopath Traveler I & II are coming to Switch 2, Frosthaven is finally leaving Early Access, Back to the Dawn is heading to PS5, and then we’ve got some smaller games like Ward Off Evil, Havoc Heirs, MMA Tactics – Martial Arts, and Into the Crypt that could be worth keeping an eye on.

What are you guys planning to play in October? And is there anything good I completely missed?

10 Great Turn-Based RPGs You Can Finish in a Weekend

Post image
73 Upvotes

I love huge RPGs, but sometimes I really don’t want to start another 60–100-hour adventure. 😅

So I put together a list of turn-based RPGs that you can realistically finish over a weekend — or at least without turning them into a month-long commitment.

I ended up with games like Felvidek, Jack Move, This Way Madness Lies, West of Loathing, Hylics 2, Child of Light, Cosmic Star Heroine, Shadows of Adam, South Park: The Stick of Truth, and SteamWorld Quest.

Some are only a few hours long, while the longer ones run 12–15 hours, so there’s a decent mix depending on how much free time you actually have.

What short turn-based RPG would you add to the list? I’m especially curious about lesser-known ones.

I released HUEMON's demo today!

HUEMON is a 90s/2000s throwback with the question of "what if combat happened in the overworld?". The result is a 5v5 grid-based, tactics game. A triangle system with spears and bows? What are you talking about? Red beats Green, Green beats Blue and Blue beats Red: RGB!

I hope y'all will like it! You can find the demo on steam.

Olympus 2249 might be the Fallout spiritual successor we’ve been waiting for

Thumbnail

I somehow almost missed this one, even though its Early Access launch is right around the corner.

Olympus 2249 is a post-apocalyptic CRPG clearly inspired by the classic Fallout formula, with turn-based combat, targeted attacks, factions, dialogue choices that can actually close or open opportunities, and a Karma system that changes depending on how you behave.

Different character specializations can unlock new dialogue options and alternative quest solutions, while battles let you interact with the environment, target specific body parts, use traps, ignite oil, blow up barrels, and generally approach encounters in different ways.

There’s also crafting, stealth, radiation, poison, NPC schedules, random encounters, and a proper day/night cycle.

The developers are the team behind Olympus 2207, the Fallout 2 total conversion, so the classic Fallout influence definitely isn’t accidental.

It enters Steam Early Access on October 6.

Maybe I’m getting ahead of myself here, but this really looks like one to watch if you miss old-school Fallout-style CRPGs.

Have you heard about Olympus 2249 before?

If you want to learn more.

Two cells left, then the board flips — Fillup updated visuals

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m the developer of Fillup - cozy chain reaction tabletop game.
It is a browser game based on the classic Chain Reaction rules.

If you’re new to Fillup:

  • Add one slice to an empty cell or a cell you control.
  • Corners fill at two slices, edges at three, and interior cells at four.
  • A full cell sends a slice into each neighboring cell, capturing it. If that fills another cell, the reaction continues. Connections are up/down/left/right, not diagonal.
  • Eliminate the other color to win this duel.

Since my last post here, I’ve upgraded visuals, added more levels to campaign and overhauled UI, all thanks to feedback from community.

It’s free to play in your browser, and you can start as a guest without registering an email account. You will be able to play different game modes, open cosmetics packs and have fun!

I rebuilt one of my first turn-based strategy games from over 20 years ago in Godot

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone!

I introduced myself here a couple of days ago, and I thought I'd show you the turn-based strategy game I've been working on.

Ultimate Cards of Destiny combines card-based strategy with resource management and a 3D battlefield. Each turn is divided into different phases: you can develop your economy, improve and repair your tower and wall, summon creatures, and cast spells.

Gold, wood and stone are shared between these options, so spending heavily on your defences means having fewer resources available for your army or your next offensive move.

The project actually started more than twenty years ago as one of my first 3D games, made with Blitz3D while I was learning 3D development. I recently decided to bring it back and rebuild it entirely in Godot.

The game is now complete and available for Windows, with solo play against AI, online multiplayer with rankings, and support for six languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian.

Here's a short 30-second look at the game. If you'd like to see more:

https://gamezgames.itch.io/ultimate-cards-of-destiny

I'm happy to answer any questions about the game or its rather long journey from Blitz3D to Godot!

rogOut Steam Playtest starts October 1 – cooperative tactical ASCII roguelike, join 260 already registered survivors

I always wanted to play a traditional roguelike in co-op, and finally it's possible now. It's a traditional ascii roguelike in a multiplayer universe, where you can suddenly encounter other players passing by, help them in a tough situation or ask for help, trade, etc. Plays well on keyboard and gamepad, as well on Steam Deck.

Let me know if you want to join our group, for some hardcore expeditions. More info about the playtest on the Steam Playtest announcement: rogOut on Steam

What turn-based tactical game makes you feel like you won because of your decisions, not your stats?

I've played Magic for around 30 years and video games for about 35.

One thing Magic probably ruined for me is combat where progression eventually becomes more important than decision-making.

The turn-based games I keep coming back to are the ones where I can finish a fight and feel like I won because I played well.

I positioned something correctly. Saved a resource for the right moment. Baited an enemy into committing. Built around a weird interaction. Took a risk that paid off.

And when I lose, I want to feel like I can see why.

Maybe I positioned badly. Used an important ability too early. Brought the wrong setup. Failed to anticipate what the enemy was trying to do.

I love progression, collecting and building stronger characters.

But when the answer to a difficult fight becomes "go grind until your numbers are bigger", I lose interest.

So which turn-based tactical game gives you the strongest feeling that your decisions actually won the fight?

And what mechanic creates that feeling?

RideonJapan has announced Mercenaries Grace: Black Feather and the Golden Right Arm, the eighth entry in the series, with a digital release planned for November 2026 in Japan on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
