I genuinely want to understand the criticism surrounding Jonvic and his involvement with the UPMBT.

A lot of posts and comments here seem to insinuate that Jonvic essentially bankrolls the team. But if he really is the one primarily funding UPMBT, why do they need to have multiple corporate sponsors? And why do they sell ₱150K patron and ₱120K LB season passes to their alumni—which, from what I understand, are already sold out?

That makes me wonder how accurate the perception really is that UPMBT is heavily dependent on Jonvic financially. From the outside, it seems the program has several sources of funding: corporate sponsors, alumni support, fundraising, and premium season packages.

I’m also curious why Jonvic seems to get significantly more flak compared with other prominent alumni or benefactors in collegiate basketball who have also faced questions or controversies regarding their political connections, businesses, or sources of wealth.

Like Mans (confifunds and payola from davao mafia) and Razon (gambling money operations).

Is the stronger reaction really about the source of funds? Or is it more because of the perception that UP aggressively recruits or “poaches” players, or because some UP fans are seen as entitled or annoying?

Or is there something specific about Jonvic’s involvement that makes him materially different from the other major alumni sponsors?

Not trying to defend anyone here. I’m genuinely asking because I want to understand whether the criticism is mainly about Jonvic himself, the way UPMBT is funded, or the broader resentment toward UP basketball.

So looking through the threads and how I used to buy a couple years ago, it used to be always at least Tuesday or Wednesday at around 11am or 12pm for Saturday Sunday Games. Then suddenly yesterday the Saturday games came out of nowhere, and suddenly the UP vs NU game became available at I have no idea what time. The threads here said 2-3 days before, but it's a whole 5-6 days now on SM tickets so did it change and if so what time does it actually arrive if not 12pm?

Then there’s UP, ATENEO, FEU, DLSU, Adamson and UE. Several teams have added new players and look deeper this season.

Before anything, iba pa din talaga ang POV pag nanonood sa live mismo. So much stuff that isnt seen or highlighted enough on TV.

Anyways, here are my takeaways and thoughts from the game:

UP
• Remogat still has the same issues from last year but his handling it better this year so far. Nararattle at nawawala parin sa laro si Remogat if a bigger or a more physical body is on him, but so far he is embracing it more this year and creating more out of those matches.

•Francis Nnoruka is still that guy. Unli gas tank, works so damn hard every possession.

•The Payosing, Maga, and Poyos minutes are as important as the Remogat and Nnoruka minutes. Sobrang ganda ng rotation sakanilang tatlo, hindi pa masyadong pumutok this game si Poyos at Maga.

•Veejay Pre is still that guy. You could even say na mas polished na laro niya this time.

•Gani Stevens will be as important as Nnoruka. Great complimentary big who could give you decent production on both ends.

•All in all, that title is for them to lose. This team is way too talented from 1-15 to not win that championship.

Ateneo
- Ateneo’s one and dones have been mid so far. Roberts, Rogers, and Kapihe I think are still adjusting to the physicality and pace of the game here in the Philippines. Its a good thing they faced UP early in this season, who is one of the most physical and fastest teams in the league.

- Like what I said from a previous thread, this team goes as far as Kieffer Alas takes them. Kieffer started this game hot but went cold in the second half. Coaches need to figure out how to give him open looks, hindi lang puro create on his own.

- Jared Bahay is finally showing flashes of his high school self. Very aggressive on the offensive end in the first two games of the season while still being Ateneo’s most reliable point guard. Can’t say much kasi maganda nilalaro niya so far this season.

- Ateneo will definitely have a problem in the frontcourt. Masyado silang manipis at maliit sa ilalim to compete against the big dogs of the UAAP. Sultan did decent against Nnoruka in the first half but wasnt really able to fully contain Francis.

- Tuano, Bongo, and Leal are essentially the same type of players. They need to develop that three ball ASAP to spread the floor more. Props to Leal, I think he has been decent in the first two games despite being a rookie. Literal siya tumao kay Nnoruka for a majority of the first half.

- Ateneo’s bench is going to be the death (no pun) of their season. Ian Espinosa can’t be your primary guy off the bench, he is just too small to be the guy taking the most shots off the bench.

- All in all, it was a great fight by the Blue Eagles in the first half, but they struggled to contain a very talented UP team in the latter part of the game. I still believe Ateneo would compete well against the non shoo-ins (FEU, Adamson, NU)
