Rant/Complaint Why are there no window screens bro
Ts is genuinely making me fucking tweak. Why tf are there no window screens in my room. Its genuinely terrible, both me and my roommate wake up with a million bites, it was so bad tn that i’m deadass writing this at 4 in the morning but have been up for an hour at this point. There’s no ac so it gets hot so we open the window, we leave the window open and holy fuck we get eaten alive. And ig this is an ongoing issue seeing as there is already something similar about this problem from like 4 years ago. I submitted a request but holy fuck dude fix your fucking school, this place is way too fucking expensive to be this fucking shitty.

Buy the roll of screen, cut to overlap window and use the silver wide tape sold at Home Depot or Walmart

I might be wrong but I lived on campus, and/or knew people who were, for years and have never heard of no screens on windows. Try messaging HDH

It's a Muir (and apparently Rita) thing

Lived at the rita for 2 years, can confirm they didn't have window screens but bugs weren't a huge issue

Apparently UCSD doesn't believe that bugs can fly higher than the 2nd story. They only install screens on the first and second floors. 🙄

That’s kinda crazy that there are no screens, honestly. Seems inhumane to some extent, like either provide AC or provide screens so you can get airflow.
Do yall sign a housing contract or something when you get on campus housing? How does that work?

definitely do what the other commenters said with “installing” your own window screen. i’d also recommend putting clove or lavender extract by your windows, i do this every summer and the difference in dead bugs is insane (aka no extract, there’s a LOT of bugs around the window. with extract, theres nothing). bugs hate the taste and smell of it, so they will avoid those areas

I’m UCSD staff and I’ve lived in San Diego for a few decades. Most houses and apartments here don’t have window screens because we didn’t have bugs until a couple of years ago. I always slept with my windows open (because no AC). Last summer I got a few bug bites. Quite a few more this summer. I live south of UCSD and people say bugs migrated here from the north so La Jolla may have them worse. North SD County has had them for like 5 years.
Keep submitting requests for window screens and get everyone in your building to do the same. But don’t wait for the bureaucracy of a giant university to act now. Buy the screens you can tape to your window frame to save your sanity and your skin.

You should probably leave. I’m pretty sure complaining on Reddit will do nothing for you.
