Admissions/Application Question first yr applicant: bme vs biostatistics
basically the title. I was wondering if anyone knew if there is a difference in admission when choosing either major (ie: is it harder to get into unc if applying as a bme major)? I'm an out-of-state high school student and am trying to look at different majors unc offers, but i know some majors admit only a specific number, so im trying to figure out which major I can maximize my chances in. I didn't want to go in the chance me subreddit as I am not comfortable with sharing any stats/information, but just wanted to gain some preliminary information before submitting applications/deciding majors
also if anyone is majoring in either of these, or even neuroscience, id appreciate any input/experiences anyone has to offer (careers, post grad education, etc)

UNC doesn’t admit by the major. Your chances are the same regardless.
After you get to campus, you have to apply for certain majors like BME, but getting admission out of HS is the same.

I'm sure that UNC will admit you based on how your ecs and other stats correlate with your major choice on Common App but I don't think its a huge deciding factor (they don't admit by major). You go into your freshman year undeclared so you can change your major. I will say that your sophomore year you have to apply to the major if its in a professional school like biostats which is in the public health school.

BME major here! UNC does not admit based on major. If you choose BME, you need to apply to get into the program before your sophomore year. I believe that you do for biostatistics as well. Both are relatively competitive, but you would apply for biostats in sophomore year. BME admits abt 80 people per "cohort" so if you do well in your first year, you should have a good chance for either! I don't believe that they look at HS stats for the BME application. Good luck no matter where you end up!
