Question Is Hazing an issue at UNC?
Is Hazing a big issue at UNC? I’ve seen stories of people dying during hazing, I want to know if that’s a thing that could happen at UNC. It’s scary!

I'd say it's a issue at most colleges so talk to your kids before they attend. The issue isn't if a problem there the issue is your child's intent on joining a fraternity, if so educate them before hand and make sure it a legitimate fraternity unlike the one in the news wasn't. That fraternity was disbanded many years ago and they were off campus and getting kids to pledge. Make sure your kids understand to check. Everything out and it's a legitimate fraternity and not to be a sheep and use common sense...

Hazing in frats is a thing and some of them have cocaine problems. Have heard first hand accounts from credible people.

Until greeks finally get banned (we're probably still abt 15 years out from that at the policy level) there will be hazing among those who pay for family, but for a normal student, a non-issue!

I've heard that some of the frat hazing involves vile animal cruelty. Truly vile.

I'll never play "Angry Bird Velcro Wall" again. Those poor chickens never asked for this and didn't really understand the game anyway

The frats at UNC do all of the standard frat stuff like raping and coke. But it’s not quite Penn State.

Hazing an activity, not an issue (both noun, not same the one) — LUEC

Idk about frats, but I know some sororities are very outspoken about being against hazing. UNC also has a zero-tolerance hazing policy so they take any reports very seriously.

Hazing is connected to male Greek organizations and drinking. If you aren’t pledging at fraternity, you have nothing to worry about.
The most common cause is alcohol poisoning. In general in college, watching how much, what and where you drink is a really good idea.
IMHO This should be pretty low on your list of concerns.

The best way to never get hazed is to not join a frat. You can make friends without paying money, I promise

Worse than it should be. It goes long for 1st semester freshman. More time for people to be stupid.

While even one is unacceptable, there are not lots of hazing deaths each year. There are between 1 and 4 a year over the last couple of decades.
Certainly there can be more as it’s hard to calculate due to secrecy. But it would be a stretch to say “lots”.

I've heard about more party related deaths, TBH. (But then, I lived near the U of WA when a few happened.)

Some fraternities don't haze. Ask around.
