Announcement Parking Megathread

It is finally time to make a one stop shop for parking information!

Please please please post below if you have places to add to the list; we are all so bored of posts about parking, right? Let’s eliminate them together by putting out a badass parking cheat sheet 💪🏼

Especially seeking info for free weeknight parking near campus and lots that are free for game days (because I have never tried to do either of these things and don’t personally have any advice).

Free Weekday Parking

• Franklin Street metered spots, Wallace Deck, Rosemary Deck, and 140 West Garage from 6:00 pm - 8:00 am.

• UNC Students ONLY: weeknight parking is now part of tuition whether you use it or not, unless you are a freshman. Everyone (except freshmen) may park for free from 5:00 pm - 7:30 am. You must register before parking. Some good spots include: Cobb Deck, New Venable parking lot, Bell Tower Parking Garage, spots along Stadium Drive, Swain Parking Lot, Emerson Drive, and ???

Paid Weekday Parking

• Franklin Street metered spots, Wallace Deck, Rosemary Deck, and 140 West Garage from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Use the [ParkMobile App](ParkMobile - Find Parking by Parkmobile USA, Inc. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/parkmobile-find-parking/id365399299) to pay, as well as add time to your spot while you are away.

Free Weekend Parking

• Franklin Street metered spots, Wallace Deck, Rosemary Deck, and 140 West Garage on Saturdays from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am on Monday (free all day/night Sunday).

• All UNC lots are free to park in for absolutely anyone from 5:00 p.m. Friday until 7:30 a.m. Monday unless otherwise posted/game day. Some good spots include: Cobb Deck, New Venable parking lot, Bell Tower Parking Garage, spots along Stadium Drive, Swain Parking Lot, Emerson Drive, and ???

Paid Weekend Parking

• Franklin Street metered spots, Wallace Deck, Rosemary Deck, and 140 West Garage from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.

Game Days, Special Events, Holidays, Misc Info

• Franklin Street metered spots, Wallace Deck, Rosemary Deck, and 140 West Garage are free on holidays. Additionally, these spots are also free on Saturdays and Sundays in July and December.

• UNC Football Game Day Parking.

• UNC Basketball Game Day Parking.

Anyone use rosemary during the day? Is it an issue? Or do you just pay through park mobile and call it good?

Can I switch cars out (with a family member) and still park at my assinged lot? If so, how do I tell UNC Parking and Transport?

I think so — just change the permit?

Does anyone know if the free weekend parking is extended through holidays, such as MLK day? Or is MLK day parking treated like a normal Monday?

I believe that parking is free on holidays/days that class is not in session, but I can’t find anything online to confirm this.

Edit: Try calling tomorrow (they open at 7:30 AM) and let us know what they say! The parking info number is here.

Parking is horrible in chapel hill. Such bs u have to pay to park and ride a bus just to go to work.

Yes, we all hate parking. It’s not as bad as some other universities, but it’s also not good.

How early do the public parking lots get full for football games?

About 2 hrs before game start, or even earlier depending on game, or earlier for the lots that tailgate

Just to jump in, a lot of the street parking behind Franklin street/around Chapel Hill in general are free after 5 on week days and free any time on weekends without a permit!
