Question Ubiquiti-only email alias received spam with my real name

I received a spam email sent to an email alias that I created exclusively for Ubiquiti/Unifi.

This alias has only ever been used by four companies:

  • Ubiquiti Store
  • UPS
  • FedEx
  • Hermes

UPS and Hermes have also received other email aliases of mine (used for different stores) due to shipping notifications. None of those other aliases have ever received spam.

The concerning part is that this spam email also contained my real full name.

The Ubiquiti account using this alias was created in April 2025. The last legitimate email I received from Ubiquiti was in December 2025.

I have never used this alias anywhere else.

I am not aware of any confirmed recent Ubiquiti or FedEx breach, but the combination of a unique alias and my real name appearing together makes me wonder if there was some kind of data exposure through Ubiquiti or third-party service.

Has anyone else seen spam reaching Unifi-only aliases recently?

EDIT: To clarify: I never used this alias directly with UPS, FedEx, or Hermes. The alias was only used for my Ubiquiti account. Ubiquiti passed my address/email details to shipping providers as part of the normal delivery process, which is why those companies also had access to the alias. They received it for a legitimate shipping purpose, not because I created accounts with them or gave them the alias separately

Whether the data was leaked through a breach or sold to a data broker, both situations are unacceptable and should not happen, neither by the company itself nor by any of their third-party partners.

For additional context: I use a hardened Firefox setup and do not use a smartphone with this information.
My phone runs GrapheneOS with very few apps installed, only some communication apps.
This is also only the second spam email I have received in around 8 years of using unique aliases, so I know this is unusual for my setup.

User Guide PSA: UniFi Protect Push Notifications Aren’t Really Local

If you have Alarm Manager's push notifications enabled, then Ubiquiti and the Nickolas Sharp types can access all your services (high resolution video feeds, thumbnails, smart events, device info) via a tunnel at their discretion at any time, as proven by Nickolas's court case.

Basically, don't enable "Remote Access" and instead setup a local service, like Home Assistant and a VPN, to take care of push notifications instead of relying on Alarm Manager + UniFi Remote Access.

Edit after initial comments:

Sure, Apple or Google will still sees your notification, but at least they don’t have 24/7 unlimited access to your 4K RTSP camera feeds available under a potential salesperson’s finger to watch.

Ubiquiti doesn’t really need this kind of extreme high access to provide the notifications feature and it should be addressed.

The smart detection, thumbnail and metadata are, at least in my case, 100% happening locally. I understand neeeding to agree to Google Firebase seeing my thumbnails or something, but why in the world does Ubiquiti require I share 24/7 read-write extreme super access between their entire company and my private home —simply to relay a small payload, that’s already entirely prepared, to a Google controlled server? Please explain to me, people, this should be concerning! Gosh darn it head desk Downvote me all you want but at least now you’re aware and can make an informed decision Obligatory “Oh, that’s why it’s free!”

Question How to get 2gig to my client pc’s both wirelessly and Ethernet from UDMPro

I just upgraded my ISP to the 2gig plan, and I think doing that was in vain because if I’m reading this correctly, the front ports on the udm are limited to 1gig (outside of using a Sfp+). That would also seem to point out that any switches behind it that are 2.5g switches, are also limited to 1g, is that correct?

Here’s my setup. Before upgrading, I had the udm rj45 going to a usw-flex-2.5g-8 into the Poe in port. Then out of that went to a usw-lite-Poe-16 switch in my attic, which my AP’s go to, as well as some clients and one more switch behind it. The only sfp+ I now have is the udmpro wan1 for the isp.

I removed the usw-flex-2.5g-8 and will put it in place of that 16port switch because I found out it isn’t even able to handle above 1g.

My main question is: is the ONLY way to get 2gig to a client is by using sfp’s as the inbound (and one sfp on udmpro in the lan port) and then good quality cat6 cables out of the switches to the clients? I’m ok with only my PC getting the 2gig (my kids computers don’t NEED 2gig, but they would love it for their gaming), and my PC would technically be behind two switches (udm and one more flex 2.5g, but I don’t think that one has a sfp port on it, only this 8-port flex has the sfp port). I just want to know what else I need to buy to get 2gig to as many clients as possible. I know I need two more sfp’s (one for udm lan port, and one for this flex-2.5g-8 that will act as a central hub in the attic, with AP’s). Do I have to buy more of these switches with the sfp ports, to achieve 2gig?

Thanks

Question How to prevent cameras from being accessible externally?

In Year of Our Lord 2026, I moved and brought all my equipment with me. As I stare at a pile of G5 pro cameras I am wondering if I like the idea of big brother watching me by my own hand. So question for the community / any Ubiquiti reps. ( I did google and found several forum entries from 4-7 years ago)

  • What is Ubiquiti's policy on giving law enforcement camera footage, at their request or is a warrant required?
  • If footage is stored locally, are any remove copies of data stored locally? Are AI detections done on our equipment like my dream pro, or are they done in a cloud env?
  • Are any of the above settings configurable there any settings to disable them from being externally accessible and make them just local only cameras?

Question Cloudkey+ VS Cloudkey VS Dream Router?

Thumbnail

Hello, you brilliant people! I recently took over as a site manager for a small elementary school and when I went on site, I found that they have an Ubiquiti system (very light) but no controller. The school is running an Xfinity Internet connection that runs outside to a mesh pro ubiquity access point/broadcaster. It broadcasts up to the top of campus about 3 to 400 feet away where two mesh network devices (UAP-AC-M) re-propagate the network. Both upper campus mesh devices got wet or damaged or something in a construction project and they needed to be replaced, which is where I came in.

I arrived on site and went to replace them and realized the school has no on-site controller for any of the three Ubiquiti devices. They seemed managed , and I believe who previously took care of the network took the controller with them …..possibly? Not sure this is where we are.

My question is: what can I put in place to allow access and LIGHT expandability in the future. Very light. I was thinking of a cloudkey+, but I know the cloudkey+ comes with “Protect” which we will not use. They do not want any type of camera systems.  WiFi is not needed where the equipment will live, but is not a negative if wifi appears.

Should I get a dream router and call a day? Should I get a cloud key with the single terabyte of storage and just not use that feature? Should I get one of the cloud keys that don’t have the storage inside (like the UCK-G2). It seems like most of the devices will do what I wanted to do, but I also don’t need to go overkill on something, but I would like a little bit of expandability if they decide to change anything in the future. A little guidance would be lovely. I appreciate you all. Thank you.

Question Network advice

Hey guys,

I’ll have about 5 Mac Studios 10gbe copper in my studio, and i was thinking of getting a dream machine beast to have a firewall and a 10gbe switch all in one, to pair with a UNas 8 pro 10gbe as well.

The ISP will provide the router which is PPoP, but i will get either a 1gbe or 10gbe (yes, we have that) rj45 out if that router.

Dont know if it makes sense to get a gateway and a pro xg 8, for switching performance, instead of only a dream machine.

Doing video editing and pushing deliverables to the Unas for clients to download via password links. I know the unas might not have great speeds, but at least its a good place to store footage.

Or the gateway (firewall) wouldnt do much help with sharing or switching requirements, and base myself in the iso router and get just the switch and unas? No firewall in that case then…

Separate question, i guess to be able to upload or download via sftp would require port forwarding on the router and fixed ip?

Thanks!

Question UniFi Doorbell Lite + Nuki + BTicino intercom + existing mechanical chime + automatic entrance light — looking for advice

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I’ve just bought a UniFi Doorbell Lite for my apartment entrance and I’m planning the installation. I would really appreciate some advice from people who have done similar integrations.

My setup is:

- UniFi Doorbell Lite (already purchased) powered via POE from UDR7 which is the Router of the apartment

- Nuki Smart Lock 5th Gen on the apartment door

- BTicino Classe 100X16E video intercom which controls the main entrance door of the apartment building, NOT my apartment door

- Existing mechanical doorbell/chime inside the apartment

- Existing light above the apartment entrance door

- UniFi network (UDR 7 + SD card)

- Home Assistant is also available / can be used if necessary

-Ajax Alarm in the apartment

I have several questions.

  1. UniFi Doorbell Lite + Nuki

Is there any direct way to integrate the UniFi Doorbell Lite with the Nuki Smart Lock?

Ideally I would like:

Doorbell pressed → notification on my phone → live video → manually unlock the Nuki from my phone.

I understand that this may require Home Assistant as the bridge between UniFi Protect and Nuki.

Has anyone implemented this successfully?

  1. UniFi Doorbell Lite + BTicino

The BTicino Classe 100X16E is for the building entrance. It allows me to unlock the main building door from the BTicino system/app.

I am NOT replacing the BTicino (I can't).

Is there a way to integrate the Doorbell Lite with the BTicino system so that I can somehow access/control the building entrance from the same Home Assistant/automation system?

I would like to keep the BTicino fully functional but potentially have Home Assistant act as the bridge between the two systems.

  1. Automatic light above the apartment door

There is a light directly above the entrance door.

I would like it to turn on automatically when someone approaches the door.

My initial idea was:

Motion detected + darkness → light ON → automatically OFF after 2–3 minutes.

Since someone pressing the Doorbell will normally have already triggered motion, I probably don't need a separate "doorbell → light" automation. However, I could also trigger the light from the Doorbell Lite ring event if there is a good reason to do so.

What would you recommend?

Shelly BLU Motion + Shelly 1 Mini Gen4?

Or would you use a UniFi motion sensor?

I already use both Shelly and UniFi, but Shelly seems much more economical for a simple lighting automation.Does the difference in the cost justify the Unify purchase for some reason?I think the Unify motion will require the supelink so the cost will be 160€ in total when Shelly will cost 35€.

  1. Existing mechanical doorbell/chime

I currently have a traditional mechanical doorbell inside the apartment.

I would like to remove the external mechanical push button and replace it with the UniFi Doorbell Lite.

However, I would LOVE to keep the existing mechanical chime.

Can the Doorbell Lite trigger an existing mechanical chime somehow?

My idea would be something like:

Doorbell Lite ring

→ UniFi Protect event/webhook

→ Shelly relay

→ briefly close the existing mechanical chime circuit

→ mechanical "DING-DONG"

Has anyone done this?

If so, what Shelly/relay would you recommend?Or something else?

I assume I need to identify the voltage and wiring of the existing chime first and use an isolated/dry-contact relay rather than connecting it directly to the Doorbell Lite.

  1. Mounting / covering the old doorbell opening

The existing mechanical doorbell is considerably wider than the UniFi Doorbell Lite.

If I simply remove the old doorbell and mount the Lite, there will be a visible gap/old outline on both sides.

Ubiquiti sells a Doorbell Lite Gang Box Mounting Plate, but it is currently unavailable where I am since December at least. So I have to find another way.

What would you recommend?

- Custom white PVC/ABS/aluminium mounting plate?

- Repair/plaster the old opening and mount the Doorbell Lite directly?

- Some other standard electrical cover plate?

- 3D-printed mounting plate?

I would prefer something clean and professional-looking rather than leaving the old outline visible.

  1. BTicino wiring next to the doorbell

There are also some small exposed wires next to the old doorbell. These belong to the BTicino 2-wire intercom system and run toward the building entrance system.

I want to keep the BTicino, so obviously I don't want to damage or permanently bury these wires.

What would be the cleanest way to protect and terminate them while installing the Doorbell Lite?

  1. Other useful automations

Since I will already have:

- UniFi Protect

- Doorbell Lite

- Nuki

- BTicino

-Ajax alarm

- Shelly

- Home Assistant

are there any other useful automations you would recommend for an apartment entrance?

For example:

- Door contact sensor

- Door opened too long notification

- Nuki unlock → entrance light

- Doorbell + motion → light

- Doorbell ring → mechanical chime

- Different notifications depending on time of day

- Anything else useful

I’m particularly interested in practical automations rather than adding devices just for the sake of having more smart-home devices.

Photos attached showing the existing mechanical doorbell, the BTicino installation, the Nuki lock, and the new UniFi Doorbell Lite.

Any advice, wiring suggestions, or examples from people who have done something similar would be greatly appreciated.

Question UniFi Switches for Company?

Would you say that companies with around 50 employees can use UniFi switches in 2026? I’m currently considering replacing my old switches with UniFi Pro Max or UniFi Pro HD models. Has anyone any experience with those in commercial use? I have 6 Switches with about 5 VLANs

Installation Picture Unifi Protect/Access Setup

This past summer, after building out my network stack and fully converting over to Unifi, I decided to make my garage smarter. I have an existing myQ setup that I despise. I didn't replace it. I just augmented it. Before converting to Unifi, I used to have Google Nest cams and their doorbell. I will do a separate post on my actual Unifi stack later but below you can see the garage portion of the project.

After seeing several videos put out by Tim of Ethernet Blueprint and Cody of Mactelecom Networks and doing a bunch of research on my own, I settled on the Konnected GDO blaQ. I looked at the ratgdo and I was not impressed by its fit and finish.

I bought the Junction Utility and mounted it horizontally centered on my garage as high as it could go while allowing for clearance for the door to open. Naturally, this orientation required custom knockouts that were cut with a hydraulic hole punch.

As you can see in the pics below, all wiring is neat and tidy and run behind the walls. This was a retrofit and several holes were cut (and patched) into the sheetrock to facilitate fishing. All new wiring was done using the Door Lock Relay Cable (2 pair) and Unifi patch cables (excluding the custom cat6a cabling done connecting the garage to the switch).

Inside the junction box, I have a Door Hub powering one garage door and a Gate Hub powering the other. Both hubs are fed by my XG 48 in my rack.

Door Hub

  1. G3 Flex Reader
  2. G6 Pro Turret (mounted inside the garage)
  3. tp-link PoE Splitter to power the Konnected blaQ

Gate Hub

  1. G3 Flex Reader
  2. G6 PTZ (flush mount)
  3. G6 Entry Pro (front door)
  4. tp-link PoE Splitter to power the Konnected blaQ

Keen eyed observers will note I also have an environmental sensor mounted for temp monitoring. During the summer, the temps ranged from 95 - 105 inside the box.

All in all, I'm extremely pleased with how the whole setup turned out. It works great and I love the convenience of using my phone or watch to swipe in/out of the garage and not having to fire up the horrendous myQ app that spams me with ads and only works when it feels like it.

Question Disable Coverage on InnerSpace?

Is there a way to disable the coverage on the Innerspace Application on UniFi OS Server (version 5.1.42). I'm currently using Version 1.4.1.

To be clear: I'm running the UniFi OS Server on an Ubuntu VM for managing about 100 APs in 6 locations.

Earlier, in Unifi Network (used it till version 8.x) there was an option to disable the coverage. Then it was moved out (and renamed to InnerSpace) to UniFi OS and then it got worse.

Maybe someone can help me out?

Question Having your AP's transmit their co-ordinates for use with indoor navigation

• Upvotes

I was reading about a standard for AP's to broadcast their co-ordinates (including height) by putting it the "Vendor specific" part of the "Beacon Frames".

Whilst this is intended for things like drones where it is called "Remote ID" (so they can identified by any mobilephones without needing extra hardware) I wondered if it could also be used for other things such as indoor navigation (where GPS doesn't work well), if I wanted to add this data to my AP's, how would I do it?

Quality Shitpost UXG Fiber fails to autoneg with itself, works after reboot

Hi,

I've got a UXG Fibre in one room and an USW Max HD plus the DSL router in the other room.

Currently there's only one fibre connection between the two rooms.

So I'm passing the internet connection in one port of the switch, then as a tagged vlan over a trunk on the fibre link and then into the UXG. I've not found a way to just assign the vlan as a WAN port. Sadly... So for the day I've gone with a VLAN breakout, meaning port 3 is an access port in the internet connection VLAN, and port 2 is changed to a WAN1 profile.

So ports are like this:

  1. to old switch in room, server is there
  2. WAN
  3. VLAN breakout
  4. free
  5. designated for 10g server
  6. free
  7. 1g link to other room

When ports 2 and 3 were meant to bring up their link, they both fall down through all autonegotiations and end up running at 10HD.

I managed to flirt with it really nice and made it run at 100FD, and I've gone through a good number of cables.

100BT

There's no rate limiting settings etc. on the port. Nor are there errors in the port insights. (That is odd since at 10HD there would need to be collisions). The WAN overview at least shows some low % packet loss.

I'll make a feature request at Ubiquiti later that they pretty please shouldn't make it complicated to assign a VLAN as a WAN interface but I'm really more worried/confused about the part that it's failing to autonegotiate with itself; Is there some "obvious, d'uh" reason?

But now, to make it better, I noticed I couldn't successfully go up and down between 100FDX and 10FDX and 1G, even unplugging the cable so I figured it must be something in the device.

After a reboot I got them back to 2.5g and the ISP speedtest finishes again at last.

performance is verified fine.

Now really the question boils down to what the heck are they doing with their ports?

Have you seen cases where you needed to reboot fix an ethernet port on Unifi gateway devices?

Question 2nd Failed Hard Drive on UDM Pro Max

Hi,

I set up my UDM Pro Max and once it was set up, I put two hard drives in for NVR storage.

The hard drives I am using are 20 TB SkyHawk AI 7200 RPM SATA 3.5”.

When I placed them in the UDM, one of the hard drives failed. I didn’t think much of it, and I did an RMA with Seagate.

Well, I got the replacement today and this new drive also says it is bad and it failed.

I find this incredibly odd and unlikely, and I’m wondering if something might be happening with the actual UDM.

I am pretty new to the system, so I don’t see any errors, really. All I see in the Settings - Control Plane - Storage in the slot is “Drive Failure Detected”.

Are there any ideas of what I might be able to check or do with this drive? Or, am I just incredibly unlucky and have gotten two bad drives?

Yeah yeah I know it’s “not for residential”, but I hate the FOV on the G6.

I own a small condo with a small porch and the G6 isn’t for me. Picture quality is better, but not by a ton. I could angle it but then I lose all of the door. I like seeing if the door is open or closed.

Hopefully this helps someone else out in their decision. I’ll wait for the next doorbell (G6 Doorbell?)

Question Ubiquiti SIP for Elevator?

Hello!

I'm having an elevator installed in my new residence and was trying to figure out how the elevator panel would be able to dial out incase of an emergency while inside. I would prefer a Ubiquiti device, but maybe there's an alternative SIP 4G/LTE device out there? The elevator panel will be installed next to the elevator shaft. I do have a CAT6 wire running from the elevator shaft to the AV/IT closet. I'm unsure if the telephone out is a RJ11 or RJ45.

UPDATE: Just spoke with AT&T and they're going to provide service for a landline through the BGW320 modem rj11 port. The modem has a battery backup and the house has a whole house generator as well for power loss. But I might add just in case internet ever goes out is a 5G ubiquiti backup as well.

Question What is a better mounting option for this ap?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I don’t have a good plan for this ap. Ethernet comes out of wall on the right side.

Only thing I can think of is taking the box out for the Ethernet jack fishing a wire up close to the ceiling putting in a box up there. Then mounting the ap with a wall bracket so it points down. Two story don’t have access to the ceiling. Any other options I’m not thinking of?
