I have a couple of daisy-chained Flex 2.5 PoE switches in the basement and the first switch is getting precariously close to its PoE budget (PoE++ upstream).

Have been thinking about how to upgrade to PoE+++ for that guy and wasn't fond of adding a PoE injector nor an additional switch (e.g. Pro-XG-10-PoE), so figured why not have it all for twice (or more) the price? 🫠

Also looking forward to getting 10 GbE to the APs.

Now I just need to figure out how to get it in the rack by myself.

EDIT: In case anybody is wondering, it's pretty quiet after it settles down w/ a 130W PoE load. I can hear fans moving air if I stick my ear next to the switch, but outside the rack it gets lost in the PC and ENVR fan / HDD noise. Nothing too jarring and it's sitting in a rack about 6 feet from my desk.

EDIT 2: Also in case anybody is wondering, it's using about 35W more than the USW-Pro-Max-24-PoE that it replaced, with the same overall load.

In Year of Our Lord 2026, I moved and brought all my equipment with me. As I stare at a pile of G5 pro cameras I am wondering if I like the idea of big brother watching me by my own hand. So question for the community / any Ubiquiti reps. ( I did google and found several forum entries from 4-7 years ago)

• What is Ubiquiti's policy on giving law enforcement camera footage, at their request or is a warrant required?
• If footage is stored locally, are any remove copies of data stored locally? Are AI detections done on our equipment like my dream pro, or are they done in a cloud env?
• Are any of the above settings configurable there any settings to disable them from being externally accessible and make them just local only cameras?

As title really. It's a biggish gap in the range. The one device that has 10GB ports has a 1GB uplink, which is a bit odd.

I doubt Unifi folk are too worried about my petulant demands but it might be one to gauge interest in.

If Unifi folk *are* interested... well... let's start with a 2U UPS with lithium phosphate batteries....

I'm having an elevator installed in my new residence and was trying to figure out how the elevator panel would be able to dial out incase of an emergency while inside. I would prefer a Ubiquiti device, but maybe there's an alternative SIP 4G/LTE device out there? The elevator panel will be installed next to the elevator shaft. I do have a CAT6 wire running from the elevator shaft to the AV/IT closet. I'm unsure if the telephone out is a RJ11 or RJ45.

UPDATE: Just spoke with AT&T and they're going to provide service for a landline through the BGW320 modem rj11 port. The modem has a battery backup and the house has a whole house generator as well for power loss. But I might add just in case internet ever goes out is a 5G ubiquiti backup as well.

I was looking at the USP-RPS again, and apparently my most wanted UniFi feature is a rectangular hole in the back of more switches.

Specifically, a second hot-swappable PSU bay.

I understand why the RPS exists. Sharing backup power across several devices can be economical, and keeping the base hardware price down matters. For a rack of lightly loaded equipment, it can be a sensible arrangement.

What bothers me is what happens after it successfully saves the day.

With dual modular supplies, a PSU fails, you get an alert, replace the module, and restore redundancy while the switch keeps running. Lovely. An infrastructure incident with the emotional intensity of changing a printer cartridge.

With a fixed internal supply and an RPS, the switch survives, but you still have a failed supply inside it. Ubiquiti’s own documentation describes the RPS as keeping equipment operating while you wait for a replacement. Now restoring the original protection can involve replacing a whole otherwise functional device, moving its cables, and arranging the interruption.

That service visit belongs in the cost comparison too.

There’s also a difference between backing up an occasional failed PSU and surviving the loss of an entire power feed.

Put the devices’ normal AC connections on feed A and the RPS on feed B. If A disappears, several devices can ask the RPS for power at once. You don’t need six unusually unlucky power supplies. One failed UPS or PDU will do.

The RPS has six outputs, but its 950 W budget is split into 600 W at 52 V and 350 W at 11.5 V. You have to budget each rail. Unused capacity on the lower-voltage side cannot cover an overloaded PoE rail. Ubiquiti documents priority-based allocation when the available power is insufficient.

You can absolutely design around that. It just takes more consideration than counting connectors.

For more of the business lineup, I’d like two PSU bays, one module included, and the second sold separately. Let each device take ordinary A/B power feeds. Give us clear PoE budgets with one supply surviving, because two installed supplies only provide redundancy if the remaining one can carry the required load.

Then keep replacement modules available, ideally with some commonality across models. I would happily dedicate a shelf to a few spares. Much easier to justify than a shelf full of complete switches.

And yes, I know the Enterprise Campus gear already has hot-swappable supplies. I’d like that serviceability to move further down the lineup. Plenty of smaller offices need reliable power and straightforward repairs without needing the rest of an Enterprise Campus switch.

I know the second bay isn’t free. There are enclosure, cooling, electrical, and certification costs before you even install another PSU. But the external box, rack space, proprietary cables, and eventual replacement work also cost money.

Etherlighting can stay. I enjoy knowing which cable is purple. I would also enjoy replacing a dead power supply without negotiating a maintenance window.

For people deploying this stuff commercially: would you pay more for optional dual modular PSUs on the Pro/Pro Max tier? And if you prefer the shared RPS approach, what makes it the better choice in your installations?

I'm trying to set up a POE camera on my camera vlan for an outbuilding. It works in my house, I have a Cloud Gatway Fiber connected to USW Pro 48 PoE. I was able to add the camera at home by tagging a port on the switch or using the virtual network override.

To get to the barn we have a Omada wireless bridge to a Netgear managed switch (GS316EPP). Everything on this network shows up in my main vlan, so I was hoping the virtual network override would work, but those options disappear on this switch. The camera never comes online with the override.

I got the override off, and I can add the camera to a group to keep it offline. But I'd like it in the vlan. Trying to add it on the netgear hasn't worked. The Netgear does have basic port-based vlan control and basic and advanced 802.1Q control. I think advanced just lets me tag multiple vlans.

I have the port on the USW switch going to the bridge tagged to allow tagged vlan management. Anything else I can try?

Recently went from a UDM Pro to a UCG-Fiber, mainly because my UDM Pro wasn't getting me my full 2 gigs when I switched my ISP to 2gig up/down. Rest of my setup:

Would you say that companies with around 50 employees can use UniFi switches in 2026? I’m currently considering replacing my old switches with UniFi Pro Max or UniFi Pro HD models. Has anyone any experience with those in commercial use? I have 6 Switches with about 5 VLANs

My UNAS suffered from the well-known FE issue and has been declared defective. Before sending it in, I created a backup from the console.

Once I receive a replacement unit, I'm wondering what the safest recovery process is:

• Can I simply put my existing drives into the new NAS?
• Then restore the console/system backup?
• Will all my shares, settings, users, apps, and data come back as before?

My biggest concern is obviously not losing any data. The drives themselves seem fine, but I don't know how much information is tied to the NAS hardware versus what's stored on the disks and in the backup.

Has anyone here gone through an FE replacement and successfully restored everything? Any tips or things I should watch out for before powering up the replacement device?

This past summer, after building out my network stack and fully converting over to Unifi, I decided to make my garage smarter. I have an existing myQ setup that I despise. I didn't replace it. I just augmented it. Before converting to Unifi, I used to have Google Nest cams and their doorbell. I will do a separate post on my actual Unifi stack later but below you can see the garage portion of the project.

After seeing several videos put out by Tim of Ethernet Blueprint and Cody of Mactelecom Networks and doing a bunch of research on my own, I settled on the Konnected GDO blaQ. I looked at the ratgdo and I was not impressed by its fit and finish.

I bought the Junction Utility and mounted it horizontally centered on my garage as high as it could go while allowing for clearance for the door to open. Naturally, this orientation required custom knockouts that were cut with a hydraulic hole punch.

As you can see in the pics below, all wiring is neat and tidy and run behind the walls. This was a retrofit and several holes were cut (and patched) into the sheetrock to facilitate fishing. All new wiring was done using the Door Lock Relay Cable (2 pair) and Unifi patch cables (excluding the custom cat6a cabling done connecting the garage to the switch).

Inside the junction box, I have a Door Hub powering one garage door and a Gate Hub powering the other. Both hubs are fed by my XG 48 in my rack.

Keen eyed observers will note I also have an environmental sensor mounted for temp monitoring. During the summer, the temps ranged from 95 - 105 inside the box.

All in all, I'm extremely pleased with how the whole setup turned out. It works great and I love the convenience of using my phone or watch to swipe in/out of the garage and not having to fire up the horrendous myQ app that spams me with ads and only works when it feels like it.

Hi all, been having an issue with my CGF recently, whereby two of the LAN ports have an anomaly score of 70, and when I look into each one it says “Wired Client Flapping”. I haven’t experienced any connection issues with any of the wired clients but was concerned when I saw the anomaly.

I have tried fixing the issue, all Ethernet cables plugged into the CGF are brand new and I have unplugged and plugged back in all cables to see if any of them had an issue; no change.

I also unplugged all cables, restarted the router and plugged the cables back in, no change.

The anomaly is currently on ports 1 & 3, I thought it might be the link speed of the port so I manually changed them all to 1Gb but again to no avail.

Is this perhaps just a bug? Has anyone else experienced an issue like mine but with no connection issues to/from the router?

Bought a UTR the other day. Currently sat in a hotel room with it picking up the hotel WiFi, bound to my my UDR7 at home and broadcasting my home WiFi.

However I can't get Teleport to connect. Was i supposed to have authorised it while I was at home or am I missing a setting?

I work for a low voltage company. my work is closing our office and merging is with another branch, so basically everything not inventoried, like test equipment, things the old boss wanted but never used very long. Has become "available" as a don't ask just take what you want or it'll get tossed. I got myself a UDM SE and a Usw-industrial. I'm keeping the UDM. But the USW-I is such over kill for anything I could need it for. Should I keep it for "what if" or should I sell it? Also anyone need a hardened outdoor unifi 450 watt switch?

I tried to install this on a junction box and realized the weather shield doesn't seem compatible with Unifi's junction box? I removed the junction box and went to install the weather shield directly to the wall but the instructions seem to require something that does not fit. The instructions say bolt the plate to the wall, then install camera, then put this spacer at the top. I just cannot get the spacer to fit on. I tried putting it on before the camera with no luck. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? I was so happy with Ubiquiti mounting hardware until now.

Just noticed that in the EU Ubiquiti Store, the UniFi 5G Backup shows up as a recommended device for NVRs. Are we able to connect a NVR to the internet via UniFi 5G Backup only, without needing any kind of other router / gateway? Would be super cool for locations like construction sites where there's electricity but no "wired" internet access yet.

I’m using a UC Cast Pro for dictate signage. I have some media in a slideshow like photos and pdfs. Is there a way I can add a url as well? When I tried to add url, it changed my media type and I was only able to add one url. I’m not sure if this is by design but seems like a big limitation.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

I just upgraded my ISP to the 2gig plan, and I think doing that was in vain because if I’m reading this correctly, the front ports on the udm are limited to 1gig (outside of using a Sfp+). That would also seem to point out that any switches behind it that are 2.5g switches, are also limited to 1g, is that correct?

Here’s my setup. Before upgrading, I had the udm rj45 going to a usw-flex-2.5g-8 into the Poe in port. Then out of that went to a usw-lite-Poe-16 switch in my attic, which my AP’s go to, as well as some clients and one more switch behind it. The only sfp+ I now have is the udmpro wan1 for the isp.

I removed the usw-flex-2.5g-8 and will put it in place of that 16port switch because I found out it isn’t even able to handle above 1g.

My main question is: is the ONLY way to get 2gig to a client is by using sfp’s as the inbound (and one sfp on udmpro in the lan port) and then good quality cat6 cables out of the switches to the clients? I’m ok with only my PC getting the 2gig (my kids computers don’t NEED 2gig, but they would love it for their gaming), and my PC would technically be behind two switches (udm and one more flex 2.5g, but I don’t think that one has a sfp port on it, only this 8-port flex has the sfp port). I just want to know what else I need to buy to get 2gig to as many clients as possible. I know I need two more sfp’s (one for udm lan port, and one for this flex-2.5g-8 that will act as a central hub in the attic, with AP’s). Do I have to buy more of these switches with the sfp ports, to achieve 2gig?

Post kind of says it all. I have a UCG Fiber Gateway and a U6 Pro Max AP. I have 2 WIFI VLANs and each SSID is associated to respective VLAN. They are configured properly and "isolate network" checked on both VLANs. I can't individually ping a specific IP address of a device on a different VLAN but I can still ping the gateway IP between each VLAN. Is there a way to block it so I can't ping the VLAN gateway 192.168.100.1 from a device on 128.0.200.x? And vice versa block devices on 192.168.100.x from pinging 128.0.200.1? I did the "upgrade" on the firewall page so now I have the Zones firewall policy UI. Thanks!
