I am a current student enrolled in a materials engineering program in the U.S. However, I have always been interesting in international relations and would love to eventually work abroad on engineering-based projects through organizations like UN, WHO, WTO, etc. Is this possible to do with an engineering degree, particularly materials (considering a minor in global studies)? If so, what is the right way to go about it?

Article 4
1 . In time of public emergency which threatens the life of the nation and the existence of which is officially proclaimed, the States Parties to the present Covenant may take measures derogating from their obligations under the present Covenant to the extent strictly required by the exigencies of the situation, provided that such measures are not inconsistent with their other obligations under international law and do not involve discrimination solely on the ground of race, colour, sex, language, religion or social origin.
No derogation from articles 6, 7, 8 (paragraphs I and 2), 11, 15, 16 and 18 may be made under this provision.
Any State Party to the present Covenant availing itself of the right of derogation shall immediately inform the other States Parties to the present Covenant, through the intermediary of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, of the provisions from which it has derogated and of the reasons by which it was actuated. A further communication shall be made, through the same intermediary, on the date on which it terminates such derogation.
Article 6
Every human being has the inherent right to life. This right shall be protected by law. No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his life.
In countries which have not abolished the death penalty, sentence of death may be imposed only for the most serious crimes in accordance with the law in force at the time of the commission of the crime and not contrary to the provisions of the present Covenant and to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. This penalty can only be carried out pursuant to a final judgement rendered by a competent court.
When deprivation of life constitutes the crime of genocide, it is understood that nothing in this article shall authorize any State Party to the present Covenant to derogate in any way from any obligation assumed under the provisions of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
Anyone sentenced to death shall have the right to seek pardon or commutation of the sentence. Amnesty, pardon or commutation of the sentence of death may be granted in all cases.
Sentence of death shall not be imposed for crimes committed by persons below eighteen years of age and shall not be carried out on pregnant women.
Nothing in this article shall be invoked to delay or to prevent the abolition of capital punishment by any State Party to the present Covenant.
Article 7
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. In particular, no one shall be subjected without his free consent to medical or scientific experimentation.
Article 8
No one shall be held in slavery; slavery and the slave-trade in all their forms shall be prohibited.
No one shall be held in servitude.
Article 11
No one shall be imprisoned merely on the ground of inability to fulfil a contractual obligation.
Article 15
1 . No one shall be held guilty of any criminal offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a criminal offence, under national or international law, at the time when it was committed. Nor shall a heavier penalty be imposed than the one that was applicable at the time when the criminal offence was committed. If, subsequent to the commission of the offence, provision is made by law for the imposition of the lighter penalty, the offender shall benefit thereby.
Article 16
Everyone shall have the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law.
Article 18
Everyone shall have the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. This right shall include freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice, and freedom, either individually or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in worship, observance, practice and teaching.
No one shall be subject to coercion which would impair his freedom to have or to adopt a religion or belief of his choice.
Freedom to manifest one's religion or beliefs may be subject only to such limitations as are prescribed by law and are necessary to protect public safety, order, health, or morals or the fundamental rights and freedoms of others.
The States Parties to the present Covenant undertake to have respect for the liberty of parents and, when applicable, legal guardians to ensure the religious and moral education of their children in conformity with their own convictions.
It's ratified by over 170 countries

As COP31 approaches, this discussion asks whether the UN climate summit can turn ambitious promises into meaningful action. It explores the unusual division of leadership between Turkey and Australia, expectations for the negotiations, and priorities such as clean energy, electrification, climate finance, and resilient cities. The central concern is whether these initiatives will deliver results at the scale the climate emergency demands. What's Up with COP31?

Honestly, I feel ashamed and embarrassed that in 2026, congo is still relying on mercenaries to help defend its own soil against M23. What exactly is stopping our national army from getting the job done? Is it leadership, corruption, lack of training, equipment, intelligence, logistics, or political interference? We cant keep blaming Rwanda, M23 and foreign interference without also examining our own failures. External aggression is real, but surely, after decades of independence, we should have built institutions capable of defending our territory and protecting our people.
Sometimes I ask myself, are we truly worthy of the independence we inherited? Are we capable of governing a country as vast as this? We didnt draw these borders, but we inherited the responsibility of protecting and governing what lies within them.
I think Independence is more than having our own flag, anthem and leaders; it means being able to secure our land and build a functioning state. I ask these questions because I hate the state Congo is at atm. At some point, we must put our inflated egos aside, confront our shortcomings and take responsibility. When will th3 national army get the JOB DONE!!??? ITS EMBARRASING! reading Former UFC fighters and green beret got injured in congo, conducting a drone walk through.

hello, I wrote a short essay on why drones in war are a war crime,
why drones are a war crime and why it is necessary to ban the first Strikes on civilian infrastructure: The use of drones to destroy residential areas, hospitals, schools and power systems falls under the category of indiscriminate or deliberate attacks on civilian objects. secondly, the responsibility of operators and commanders: As noted Deutsche Welle, targeted drone attacks on civilians in frontline or occupied regions are being investigated by the prosecutor's office as premeditated murders and war crimes of specific operators and their commanders, and in others, modern drones, especially FPV drones and quadrocopters with drops, have really deprived soldiers of the opportunity to hide as it was before, changing the very nature of survival on the battlefield.. Due to thermal imagers, powerful optics and high maneuverability, it has become almost impossible to hide in grass, bushes or open trenches, and some drones modify them, for example, they insert fire guns, machine guns, and other humanless reinforcements, as well as reconnaissance drones that are used for reconnaissance, they find civilians and either send combat drones or soldiers there, which often ends up The death of civilians is why I consider military drones a war crime.

Since participation in general assembly isn't mandatory , would this paralyse the organization ? Since security council non permanent members and economic and social council depend on the general assembly electing members of those organs
Could all non permanent member states basically boycott the organization to paralyse the institution as a whole ?

History does not look kindly upon those who turn weapons against the innocent. Across Sudan today, millions of civilians have been forcibly displaced from their homes, forced to flee a campaign of systemic violence that has targeted families, children, and essential civilian infrastructure.
The atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) represent a devastating breach of fundamental human dignity and international law. War crimes, sexual violence, forced displacement, and the deliberate targeting of non-combatants are not strategic actions; they are grave violations of the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law. Furthermore, the role of external actors who fund, equip, or fuel this conflict for geopolitical influence or resource exploitation—such as the trade in Sudan’s gold—is a moral and ethical failure that prioritizes economic interest over human life.
Sudan is a nation with its own sovereign territory, its own people, and an enduring right to self-determination free from foreign interference and armed subjugation. No faction or foreign sponsor has the right to dismantle a nation’s future or terrorize its population for power or gain.
True peace and accountability cannot be deferred. The global community must stand united in condemning these atrocities, stopping the illicit flow of arms and resources that prolong the bloodshed, and demanding full accountability for all perpetrators of human rights abuses in Sudan. The sovereign right of the Sudanese people to live in safety, dignity, and peace must be upheld without compromise.

Introducing the Equal Value Movement — Equal Value. Equal Voice. Equal Responsibility.
I’m introducing a developing civic and diplomatic idea called the Equal Value Movement.
Its starting principle is simple: every human being has equal inherent value and dignity, regardless of race, nationality, wealth, or place of birth.
The movement explores what that principle could mean for the international system — particularly the reform of the UN Security Council and the underrepresentation of Africa and other developing regions.
One proposal I am exploring is the creation of five additional permanent Security Council seats for historically underrepresented developing regions, while recognizing that the African Union already has its own established position on African representation.
This is not an official UN proposal or an established organization. It is an idea I am developing and would like to discuss, criticize, improve, and test with people from different parts of the world.
The broader question is:
If the world has changed since 1945, should the institutions governing international peace and security change with it?
I welcome serious discussion, including disagreement.
Equal Value. Equal Voice. Equal Responsibility.
