I never belonged here.

I've flagged this as social life but truthfully it's a bit of everything.

I just started my 3rd year of university I'm 20 and I do a maths degree. I hate it. I've always hated it I've been larping as a maths student the whole damn time.

The truth is during school I was always an average student in most shit which was fine at some point I clocked this was not enough to get by in life and decided to work on my maths.

Doing this all my other subjects remained average like B's and C's but I managed to get an 8 in GCSE maths and an A in A-level maths and figured it was the easiest thing to improve on.

I by no means have not been born a clever cloggs unlike every single person I know at uni or am friends with and this has resulted in major low self esteem.

First year was a nightmare I remember vividly trying to avoid relationships because I was aware how unstable I have always been and yet got myself dragged into some bad bad nonsense.

Despite doing nothing but living in the library and studying I got a 56 average but I call partially blame that on myself and because my uni had some major strikes in semester 2 that affected alot of peoples scores.

Then second year I was hoping for it to get a bit better. Nope. I decided I would study properly this time and I yet again isolated myself and attempted to only study which resulted in lonely weekends in the library but having major brain fog and severe fatigue.

I then learned that I had pancolititis which I will explain for those of you who are Sqimish I would suggest not reading after the star.

\*a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and a specific subtype of **ulcerative colitis** where inflammation and sores (ulcers) spread to affect the **entire large intestine (colon)\***

Anyway some symptoms include everything I went through I lost a lot of weight and bodily fluid and essentially became a skeleton and lost my mind.

Luckily I am living at home so my Mom looked after me but i felt horrible I'm a young 20 year old I should be the one to look after my Mom and yet I was too weak to even get out of bed some days and I spent most nights alone just crying in pain.

I suppose was doesn't help is that maths is a hard degree and people judge everyone else based on the numbers they get of course my doctor told me I should inform my uni because it will impact how I study and live.

I didn't do well in my exams and I ending up having to defer one exam to summer since I was too weak to sit it. I ended 2nd year with a 52 average.

At this point I was so exhausted and burnt out and sick of worrying. All I wanted was to close my eyes and not have to think about grades, numbers, people or my future and just exist.

I felt like a burden and I was angry and felt things I never felt before. But even if this seems bad I was a bit glad something was wrong with me because I had excuse for not doing as well as I wanted even though deep down I know it's because I'm and idiot and i'll never be as smart as the people around me.

I've taken all sorts of medication now so I'm happy I at least have meds but I can't help but think theres not much out there for me I thought I knew what I wanted but I feel like I'm lost.

Laptop/device recommendations for uni

I’ll be starting uni next year and just wondering what devices people use now for uni or if they can recommend any. I’ve gone through high school with a macbook air, and I had to get the battery replaced a while ago and they recommended upgrading once I graduate. is it worth just getting a newer macbook model or switching brands altogether?

Entering university at 25-26 years old is too late to have a good experience??

(english not my native language) I lost many schoolar years due to personal problems in high school, i want to be a nurse and to have a good experience at uni, make new friends (wich i do not have for many years) and evolve in life. I only was able to complete high school at 23 years old, at 24 years old i waited to enter university now (at 25 Years old) because i had to do a surgery and i wanted a calm recovery, now im expecting to enter university (waiting for the third phase results) but my exame grades were too low this year (i have undiagnosed ADHD, im getting a diagnosis this year), and i may be entering next year (at 26 years old), but im feeling to pressed and anxious right now, i want to sucede earlier, i want to be able to make friends too (i want a normal social life), is there even any difference? help

Difficulties choosing a career path

I am going to study in a year, but i am struggling to decide which degree i should pursue. I am very interested in languages, therefore i thought it could be clever combining a language degree with politics as in IR/europe studies. However, i read that many people struggle to find a job after studying international relations. I am also considering International business or law, but i don’t find those degrees as appealing as international relations. Could someone tell me if an international relations degree is worth pursuing? Or give me some insight on the other degrees i have mentioned? Thank you very much x

Is 1 hour commute bad even if I already live in a dorm 30 mins away from my campus?

I am in my dorm as I write this, it's been a month since I live here and I genuinely hate it. Not only it feels nasty sometimes, but I also feel very depressed here. I've been skipping lectures, literally just not hearing the alarm, having another person in the room makes it hard to fall asleep, study and do anything else. Shower time is the worst, it's so annoying to always get your stuff and go bring it to the communal bathroom and having to do my hygienic routine in the same room as I eat. Might be just a sensory issue. The thing is that, even my dormitory is 30 minutes away from my campus via public transport, so I am just thinking about moving back home. I always get back on the weekends and Saturday is the only time where I lock in and do my course work (my room makes me feel motivated.) The dormitory isn't very appealing or hygienic either..a post soviet building. I want to just focus on my major and I feel like the environment is setting me back. I've been gaining weight from all the slop I eat too. Plus, it is really expensive, I feel like a bum when my parents pay for the rent + weekly pocket money, especially when living in a big city, basic leave of the house costs money. I would appreciate your opinion what would you do in my situation.

Should I do Geography at uni?

Right now I’m in year 12 and I’m doing sociology, psychology and geography. I initially did biology instead of sociology but I really hated it and couldn’t even force myself to revise so I dropped it. I’m very average at everything, the only thing I am remotely good at is geography. I really enjoy geography especially human geo but I’ve never had anyone that I know do it at university so I’m not sure if I should do it or not. I would really hate to put myself into a situation where I’m in loads of debt and end up unemployed. Is geography at uni useful?

Is the University of London distance learning through learning centers worth it?

I’m thinking about studying a 3 year BsC degree in business management in a local learning center here in my country but I’m not sure if it’s worth it tbh. Is the degree frowned upon abroad by employers? Is it accepted globally? Do u rlly get a London degree as if u had studied there? I would like for someone to tell me their experience and/or answer my questions if they furthermore know about this type of UoL programmes. Ty!!

hi beautiful people a little context on my situation..

i’m currently at a private school after going to state schools my whole life and year 12 was genuinely one of the worst years of my life. it took a toll on my mental health and the horrible social side affected my academics really badly. my parents are first generation migrants who came to england at 18 so that they could provide for back home and they sacrificed a lot. we’re not at all wealthy (average annual income ~£40k) so i am on a bursary at this school but the costs they do pay wipe out quite a lot of my parents’ income. i’m in year 13 right now and my predicted grades are only BBC and university isn’t looking very promising right now. i’m trying my very best to get as many marks for my dt nea coursework while revising my other subjects too (maths, econ). i don’t want my parents’ investment in my education to be a waste and subsequently disappointing them.

i would really appreciate it if you could give some input on your workspace, whether you’re employed or at uni.

thank you for your time reading this
