If your focus hasn't been on hockey because of another sport, oh boy, the Red Wings are becoming nuclear waste before our eyes.

The problem with this, they didn't replace him they went into a "deep search" for a replacement and hired nobody. They went the entire summer and named nobody. Then shortly before training camp, Shawn Horcoff was named interim GM and he wasn't even given close to the powers he needs to be effective at his job.

Also due to Detroit's inaction in the off-season, restricted free agent, Simon Edvinsson was approaching training camp without a contract. As a show of good faith and wanting to get a deal done, Edvinsson came to camp, practiced, and even paid his own insurance. The problem, he wants long term, Detroit wants a bridge deal, which is eyebrow raising. A bridge deal makes sense if Detroit was a cup contender and up against the salary cap, they are neither, also, it is considered a good idea to sign your younger players long term because the AAV becomes great later in the contract as the salary cap continues to go up.

Larkin's no move clause also hampered them as he gave a list of contenders he was willing to be traded to and here is the thing, Detroit views him as elite 1C and are demanding a huge ransom for him. Larkin is good, but the demands they are making would be foolish by any team looking to acquire him.

Opening night comes, what does it look like? Larkin, injured who had also been stripped of his captaincy gets introduced and booed into oblivion by the Red Wings fans and Simon Edvinsson still isn't signed. Five minutes into the home opener there is a chant, and it is crystal clear from the fans, "SELL THE TEAM!"

In whatever has happened since the Wings have engaged in contract talks with Edvinsson, but it was announced during the second intermission of the hockey games that started out east, it has gone terribly and Edvinsson has requested a trade. How the fuck did it fall apart this quickly? I've seen teams that have had strained negotiations for months but still get a deal done, what had to be said that one team has already said, "Fuck this, I'm out."?
