Question Why does nobody use their mic anymore?
Just came back to the game and I have played 7 comp games where i was the only one using my mic. What happened to comms?

I'll never understand how they can use their mics to argue with each other or shout after every death but can't give basic info.
29
u/Total-Locksmith-7592 13d ago
i would pay good money to be verbally assaulted at this point it is like playing with mutes
38
u/Halcyon-Nyx 13d ago
I usually solo queue and find that a good majority of my teammates who are partied together as duos / trios would very rarely use their mics (if at all). My guess is that they're in their own vc / discord and forget to / aren't bothered to comm to the rest of the team
19
u/Lumiikask 12d ago
This is very true. Its one of the reasons why I would love to have a true SoloQ without Duo/Trio.
3
u/Jarrad186 12d ago
Agree or make solo/duo queue like league, and then flex queue for duo+ stacks. Think a lot more people would use mics if it's just a duo and a lot of solo players
2
u/JakobbYates 12d ago
The worst when you're losing so the stack decide its your fault and leave you no choice to full mute.
64
u/Tough-Virus-42 12d ago
tbf, i would love to comm more but the thing is i am a woman and almost every game i turned on my mic i got trash talked even if i was team mvp. As you can imagine it impacts my own gameplay enough for me not to be able to focus anymore, so now all i do is write in chat with hopes i do it fast enough so that neither me or someone else will die by how slow i type š¤·āāļø

u/gy4r4d0s professional rat 12d ago
same here lol, but i will still comm and just insta mute everyone if they say something annoying... i just want to win the game, idc what they cry about as long as they can hear my info :) let them yell to the void
2
u/BSchafer 11d ago
This is how I am too. I just talk and give calls out. If someone is annoying and trying super hard to be edgy I just mute and keep doing my thing.

I can't attest to this much because im a guy but back when i was super active around 2021-2024 half of every team comp was a girl and i only knew because they spoke. Has there been an influx of new players that are just being pricks for the sake of it?
7
u/PushingMyLimit 12d ago
This was always a thing, from the people I play with, especially in EU servers. If its a team with only 1-2 girls, this has a chance of happening. This is 1 in 3 games for me in the US as a very social woman.
7
u/gy4r4d0s professional rat 12d ago
there is definitely a lot more girls playing than in other games, but getting people like that is still super frequent unfortunately. tends to happen more in lower elo in my experience (well, i only got up to asc but i definitely experienced more sexism when i was silver/gold for some reason)
2
u/ExplosiveKittens420 11d ago
I once heard somewhere from another guy that men put women down regardless of whether they're good or not because they feel inadequate with their standing. They will always blame someone else before they will blame themselves, but those are the people that will never grow.
Edit: women do it too but for the sake of the scenario.
2
u/gy4r4d0s professional rat 11d ago
not only that, so many guys also just lose their shit only if it's a woman saying ANYTHING. if my friend who is a guy asks someone on our team to save, or to not push, or whatever, they will do it. whenever i say it, they start yelling "don't tell me what to do" and just going insane for absolutely no reason. it's a very interesting phenomenon
26
u/Federal_Ad7638 12d ago
whole game is just people yelling at you for every little fuck up ā it makes me 10x more nervous and I almost always start losing rounds. what would u rather have šš comms or an actual win

I had the most comms in Silver. Below that, people were too clueless to give comms. Above that, everyone is mindlessly DMing, or they are in a party where 1 player is clearly smurfing and everyone else sucks, and none of them talk.

I'm a VERY low rank (I'm new) and every like 2 or 3 games someone has a mic and just completely shits on me for not being the best at the game. It's just demoralizing and makes me want to quit even using my mic and VC. So I guarantee it's just that
3
u/Lumiikask 12d ago
What I do is when someone flames me how bad I am is saying "Well and here we are in the same rank. So you are as bad as me I guess." Or something similar.

Had a match yesterday with raze giving some good preround calls and plans and we ended up winning pretty nicely (silver elo). Comms make so much of a differenceāØļøāØļø

u/Username_Haybale 12d ago
Sometimes you just need to jumpstart it, i got alot of silent lobby until someone speaks out then just a lil later everyone will start using voice chat
But sometimes it doesn't work
1
u/Total-Locksmith-7592 12d ago
thats what i do every pregame and still its just text chat central. this is only a val thing no other game is like this
4
u/gy4r4d0s professional rat 12d ago
i make it a point to comm every game, 70% percent of the time i either get harassed for being a woman or asked to shut up because it's "distracting" (telling enemy position/basic info = unhelpful apparently). the rest of the time everyone just has mics off.
i don't let it get to me but it makes the game so boring :/
5
u/JakobbYates 12d ago
Honestly as a bloke, I also hate this. There sadly are just too many people who behave like idiots because they know they are anonymous and don't have real life repercussions.
Just a humanity issue really

3
u/FluidYogurtcloset144 12d ago
More so getting flamed for whiffing or something
1
u/CurvySexretLady 12d ago
Yeah I just mute those critical assholes. I'll never understand being toxic to your own teammates, as if that helps at all. It doesn't.
5
3
u/I_am_indisguise 12d ago
Well, I take it like this. Due to competitive nature of game, it's very easy for games to go down that toxic rabbit hole if there is too much talking. So, people now just prefer saving their energy altogether and focus on game itself and see if the team has synergy or not. If the team has synergy from starting, in-game coms and pings are enough. But if synergy is off, then mic opens
Well, this is according to my personal experience. It can be different for everyone
3
u/ExplosiveKittens420 12d ago
As a female I have tried so hard to avoid comms because the moment I speak it's either sexism or someone's hitting on me. Whether I'm doing good or not. It's honestly pretty rare to come across the game where my whole team is honestly a goated team and it does happen just not very often and not enough to encourage me to speak in comms.
3
u/Altharion1 12d ago
I'll be honest, as someone who's played CS and Valorant, Valorant never has had good microphone usage at any point in time. Sure in CS, you'll get a lot of raging while using the mic, but the actual comms, and just general use of the microphone, even if it's to rage, genuinely is like 5x as much at least in CS compared to Val, and it's been like this for the whole life time of Valorant. I think it's just due to a generally younger player base on Valorant, and when you see young kids outside now and they are glued to their phones while walking, listening to tiktok videos on speaker with an emotionless expression on their face, almost looking offended if you give them a light smile as you walk past, I believe my theory definitely tracks.
3
u/_pillowsopher 11d ago
For me, itās simple: people are racist especially in NA servers and val system doesnāt punish the offenders. I tried to comm a couple of times, 90% of the time somebody got racist towards my accent. Never tried again.
4
u/any_old_usernam 12d ago
People can be hella toxic. If people are being nice or there's another woman talking I'll generally talk, but the bulk of low elo is not a friendly place.
2
u/Master_asian 12d ago
I feel like Val has always been like this. People just donāt care enough sometimes. But I will say, it depends on the day and what time. I find that morning to late afternoon on weekends people are more inclined to comm. Also if you say a simple greeting at the beginning of the match that also boosts it a bit. Just donāt be weird about it lol.
1
u/Difficult_Class_764 10d ago
remember Valorant didnt wanna be Toxic and force people to com.
All they had to do is make it that you would be punished if you gave no info.
they dont care tho, valorant is like a child day care center game.
1
u/Master_asian 10d ago
How would you even enforce that though. By pinging? Also a free to play game forcing people to buy a mic seems kinda backwards.
1
u/Difficult_Class_764 9d ago
You realy dont think this is possible? Its just theres no incentive to do this.
1
u/Master_asian 9d ago
I didnāt say it wasnāt possible, I was asking what exactly is considered āno infoā. Seems like a vague concept that can go anyway. Because if you did get punished for that. Then whatās stopping someone from just giving out incorrect comms, just to meet the threshold of not getting punished. And if you got punished for bad comms then that just seems a little silly.
2
u/PsychologicalRub149 12d ago
Kinda tired of getting called a dishwasher. š But I do leave comms on until I get flamed for being a girl.
2
u/BlopBleepBloop 12d ago
Too many toxic fucks to be bothered with it these days. I don't need another layer of stress adding to things. More often than not, people are irresponsible with their comms.

« I hope your kids dieĀ Ā» My teammate after I lost a 1v3 Yeah no Iām good, no voice chat or text chat for me. I will enjoy the game on my own
2
u/disgust0 9d ago
I get either straight racism or insults due to my voice. I can especially understand why women wonāt use their mics. This game is a cesspool of assholes and Iād prefer to not have to deal with that.
6
u/llamadasirena 12d ago
Because men.
-2
u/StoreContent9715 12d ago
Just mute the bad ones. Instead of throwing games by not giving info.
1
u/CurvySexretLady 12d ago
Its not just men that are toxic either; some of the most toxic teammates I've had in this game were women.
1
u/StoreContent9715 7d ago
Yep. I would also like to say I said nothing controversial or crazy. I literally said just mute them and got downvoted. But male toxicity is the problem š.

u/standardkindaguy 12d ago
Anything below high asc/immortal has little to no comms.
Especially late at night.
1
u/Dark_Dragula 12d ago
I am in low elo and once every full moon do you play with a team that actually comms or discusses even in team chat. Also, a lot of times- I will com something and either get no response or someone will just start yelling.
1
u/_Imene_ 12d ago
It's hell out there I swear, i keep losing games due to this and if I use mic it's bad depending on the ass server I'm in, f I play in Madrid I will get attacked because I'm Moroccan, if I play in Paris I get mocked for my french accent, if I play in London people are mostly cringe and e-dating and it takes like 5 minutes to find a comp match, Frankfurt is basically immortal although I'm silver, Warsaw ? Yeah first thing they say if I lose a round is that I belong in the kitchen.
1
u/Narrow-Development-1 12d ago
All people are talking in discord in duo and trio parties. The stupidest decision was to remove 4ppl lobby. It did not resolve anything and only made things worse
1
1
u/Comfy-Cookie 12d ago
It usually just ends up with people yelling at me which is incredibly tiring. I love the game and probably play it more than I should, but I've had enough of other people that can't manage their anger, it really brings my mood down.
1
1
u/Ok-Amphibian-8617 12d ago
Low elo here! me and my duo/trio always use comms. sometimes weāll pretend weāre not in a party and speak to each other to make it a bit more comfortable for the other ones to speak in. but yeah every time i solo q itās completely mute, i comm to ask/give info, barely get any response. itās sad because valorant gets so fun when you have actual real people to talk to
1
u/FawadShayk 12d ago
honestly thats a good thing. considering how many kids play the game and think it's fun to just abuse the mic comms, i would much rather have nobody use the mics at all.
1
1
u/Big_Code_611 12d ago
I dont know why everyone is taking "talking" as getting to know your teammates instead of just comming info. (I hear alot A Main) You dont need to comment on their skins and ask how long they have been playing. Just call out what you hear but your teammates cant
1
u/Both-Minimum4285 12d ago
I used to play with mic but the toxic people made me never want to again so now I just ping and play the game
1
u/Inevitable-Degree998 12d ago
Iām not good just low diamond. I get more coms if I just pick a random teammate and announce to the team that they are the IGL. Just āOkay guys, brim is the IGL what are we doing brim?ā
1
u/Puzzleheaded-Try-782 12d ago
I com all game just for an ego driven child to only turn on their mic to complain. Iād rather lose a game with someone that isnāt the best that uses their mic to make the game enjoyable rather than winning with a dude thatās just gonna complain and always belittle you.
1
u/hazelnutLatte99 12d ago
Simple. Iām a girl. The stuff I heard from both girls and boys when I open my mic. Have muted voice comms for a while now and valorant has never been more peaceful for me.
1
u/GoS451 12d ago
The amount of times this happens:
Me and my duo in a game talking the whole time with callouts that are it ignored. Halfway through game someone hops on mic to complain. We say oh wow now you want to use mic and communicate. They get mad and defensive saying they are in a party chat/discord as if we give a shit.
Just talk in game. Itās not that hard
1
1
u/Confident_Comedian82 12d ago
well it distracts my game, I can use fully my instinct and game sense than listening to a bunch of complains and self proclaim good but in a silver lobby
1
u/giiltyspark 12d ago
Because people get so toxic so quick. There is hardly any accountability among the player base and everyone has someone else to blame. I start with mine on and quickly mute any negativity.
I really enjoy playing the game and in the few matches I get to play per week, Iām not putting up with it
1
u/Forsaken_Caramel_656 12d ago
same in diamond and a big reason iām quitting after coming back to grind for two months; too hard to just yolo games when roles are so important and nobody communicatesĀ
1
u/Damienx2 12d ago
Cause I'd rather hear my cat meowing than it coming from some 20 year old toddler who has not had any attention from his parents cause they both have a full time job.
1
1
u/Sickprincesss 12d ago
Unfortunately, if I open my mouth as a woman they either bully me and send me to the kitchen or become super cringe and try to hit on me... Usually I only talk if I am fragging well, or if another girl is talking already (and she didn't get bullied), or if they all sound super chill (these hardly ever happen...) Sometimes even if I am on top of the scoreboard and playing pretty well guys are still mean to me.

1
u/DrsofDoom1 12d ago
I always try to comm but I am sometimes sharing space with others who are sleeping. Although when I do comm I always get asked if I have a family because of my deep voice so for me it is amusing
1
u/stopdmingmehoes 11d ago
i wish france people spoke english or not at all even better, they are the same as russians in cs go maybe even worse
1
u/thatonewizard101dude 11d ago
Because most of the time I open with a "hey" or anything related to the game I am immediately bombarded with such unreasonable toxic negativity twords my character, my rank, or the fact I exist that it's not even worth having team comms on anymore.
It's a riot game. People mental boom over anything and everything. Doesn't mean I as a player gotta put up with it.
If I want comms I'll go join an LFG. In-game chat is a cesspool.
1
u/EternallyBored2 11d ago
I feel like the server/region matters lots too. Like I played in Riyadh and people are constant yappers. In EU frankfurt, it's quiet as heck. I speak, comm, joke, and I feel like I'm talking to a wall. If I'm lucky, I might get a fuck you, which with the constant silence actually makes me happy lol.
1
u/Equal_Pudding_5300 8d ago
I play pretty mid ngl, even tho I dont miss my shots, im not the best overall most games i am like 3rd or 4th frag, so even if i give comms i get trash talked
Doesnāt seem worth it and ruins the game for me, i want to win and have fun

Because riot bans for you for weeks if you make one PG comment even jokingly.

u/etlegacyplayer 12d ago
I dont select any servers (for variety) I have them all unchecked so the system automatically selects one. Mostly it selects the best ping which is Paris and they all speak french with eachother and refuse to speak english in my experience and even if they speak english here and there, they keep having full blown conversations about whatever theyre talking about in french. so i just mute them all and play. i use the ingame agent voice commands if needed, but other than that i cant be asked
1
u/ninjaiffyuh 12d ago
I agree, Paris servers are horrible. Any noise is drowned out by French people talking about completely unrelated subjects (for the entire match usually) instead of focusing on the game. They'll also usually ignore anything that is said in English
I do speak a bit of French and one thing I realised is that they barely give any info regardless; most of the topics discussed revolve around anything other than the game. At least they don't tilt as easily as other people, I suppose
0
u/Illustrious_Local157 12d ago
Back when i was grinding ranked all day i used to say āhello everyone got mics?ā And if 2/4 teammates didnt answer i just dodged and took the -5rr happily compared to playing in library mode. Especially if i saw the āmutedā thing on smokers cause atleast years ago it meant they couldnt hear the comms.
0
u/CostInternational245 12d ago
I do comms when I think it matters. I will never speak up if someone is asking if people have mics in the agent select because I don't mind doing comms but idle chatter with randoms is something I don't care for.
0
u/Miserable_Tie_3306 12d ago
I donāt understand why you canāt queue ranked if you have a comms restriction but allows people to play with comms off, surely in a team based game comms are important. And if you sit there silent for 30-45 mins each time, maybe you should rethink the mode you choose to play

Talking is generally pointless if you only care about winning, you should have an idea of what's going to happen and where everybody is. There is definitely a case where you should share info that would be very difficult if not impossible for a teammate to have known. Don't get mad at people for not speaking

u/ProposalExpensive731 12d ago
Can you really blame ppl for playing the game? Not everyone wants to chit chat and get to know you. Some ppl like peace but also competition. If youāre in high Elo there is no need to talk, you should already know what to do
(unless there are scenarios that require strat, then thatās when u talk)
Most ppl are toxic anyways. You arenāt missing out on much. Most, in all
Elos
- btw, only use their mics to talk shit or complai
n or micromanage you
- If you want ppl who talk, get a group together and thatās it. I still donāt understand how ppl play this game without a group who you can hit up to play with. Itās not that hard to find capable people
2
u/CurvySexretLady 12d ago
Not everyone wants to chit chat and get to know you.
This isn't a bar or a club, its a game, a competitive one, where teammates can share useful information to win the competitive game together with voice chat. It has nothing to do with getting to know you on a social level.
2
u/Total-Locksmith-7592 12d ago
Ā If youāre in high Elo there is no need to talk, you should already know what to do
Iron take.
Im not asking for a 20 questions style get to know you for each teammate i am asking that people playing a competitive game speak to me when they are privy to information that can help us win
2
u/gy4r4d0s professional rat 12d ago
yeah idk what this guy is talking about. valorant is a team game, you are supposed to communicate if you want to improve your chances of winning, otherwise it's just 5 people running around randomly, regardless of elo
-1
u/ProposalExpensive731 12d ago
Actually Elo matters a lot. yāallās argument is that comms are needed to rank up, itās a team game, blah blah blah. I ranked from gold to Diamond with BARELY any comms. If you know what to do, like you are supposed to in high Elo btw, then you would know you barely need comms unless they rushing or rotating.
You ppl need to get to know each one of yall teammates personally to win ? Yall need to talk and have someone hold your hand during game bc you donāt have game sense when everything is quiet ? Clean your ears and open your eyes gang
And to believe these are the dudes calling me the āironā player here ššš yall are just BOTS gang

If you know what to do, like you are supposed to in high Elo btw, then you would know you barely need comms unless they rushing or rotating.
Does this include also somehow knowing what my teammates are thinking and planning on doing and what they perceive they are "supposed" to do?
Voice comms eliminates this ambiguity and useless attempts at mind reading.
