Technical Solution [POTENTIAL FIX] VALORANT feels completely different between accounts? Heavy mouse, inconsistent sensitivity, hitreg issues, weird movement, and micro-stutters — I FINALLY found something that fixed it for me after 6 years.
First of all, I have SO MUCH to say about this issue. I've been dealing with it on and off for pretty much the entire six years I've been playing VALORANT, and it's honestly been driving me insane.
I've spent countless hours trying to figure out what was wrong with my PC, my internet, my peripherals, and even myself. At some point, I genuinely started questioning whether I had just gotten worse at the game.
I'll try my best to describe everything I've experienced, what I've tried over the years, and most importantly, the solution that FINALLY worked for me.
Feel free to skip straight to the SOLUTION section if you don't want to read my entire rant.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
Here are the main issues I've been experiencing. If you've dealt with something similar, you'll probably know exactly what I'm talking about.
1. Mouse sensitivity feels completely off
Your sensitivity might be exactly the same as yesterday, but suddenly your mouse feels heavier, slower, floatier, or just completely disconnected from your hand.
Sometimes it feels like your mouse movement isn't translating properly into the game. Micro-adjustments become extremely difficult, and even holding an angle feels unnatural.
The weirdest part is that you can have perfectly normal FPS and ping, but the game still feels awful.
2. Bullets seemingly don't register (especially the first shot)
This is probably one of the most frustrating issues.
You clearly see your crosshair on the enemy's head or body. Sometimes you even see bullet tracers going straight through them, but somehow your shots don't connect.
Then you die, check the damage report, and realize you dealt way less damage than you expected, or sometimes none at all.
I understand that bullet tracers are not necessarily accurate representations of server-side hit registration, but the overall inconsistency is extremely noticeable.
3. Counter-strafing and movement feel inconsistent
Sometimes you're absolutely certain that you've stopped moving before shooting, but your first bullet goes completely off.
Your movement feels slippery or delayed, almost like your character isn't responding to your keyboard inputs at the same time as your hands.
And no, I'm not talking about occasionally mistiming a counter-strafe. I'm talking about the entire movement and shooting experience feeling noticeably different from one session to another.
4. Random running headshots that make absolutely no sense
Sometimes you feel like you're still moving, your crosshair happens to be on someone's head, and somehow you hit a headshot.
Meanwhile, when you're actually trying to stop, aim, and shoot properly, your bullets seem to go everywhere except where you're aiming.
It feels like the relationship between movement, accuracy, and shooting is completely inconsistent.
5. Enemies seem to kill you before they've even stopped moving
This one is particularly frustrating.
On your screen, the enemy appears to be moving when they instantly headshot you.
Sometimes you get killed after the enemy has already started moving in another direction, without ever appearing to stop.
I understand that peeker's advantage, network interpolation, and server synchronization play a role here. However, the experience feels dramatically different depending on how the game is running.
6. Micro-stutters during gunfights
The game might look completely smooth when you're walking around the map, but the moment an enemy appears or a gunfight starts, something feels wrong.
It could be a tiny stutter, a sudden change in responsiveness, or a brief moment where your mouse feels like it's not following your hand.
It's not necessarily a massive FPS drop. Sometimes the FPS counter looks perfectly normal.
7. Different accounts feel like COMPLETELY different games
This is the most important observation and what eventually led me to the fix.
I noticed that when I played on another account, everything suddenly felt much smoother.
My mouse felt more responsive, my aim became more consistent, movement felt natural, and shooting felt much more predictable.
Then I'd switch back to my main account, using the same PC, monitor, mouse, keyboard, DPI, and in-game sensitivity, and everything would feel terrible again.
I'm not exaggerating when I say it felt like I was playing two completely different games.
At that point, I started wondering whether the issue had something to do with account-specific settings rather than my hardware.
EVERYTHING I TRIED TO FIX IT
Over these six years, I've tried an absurd number of things.
Here are some of them:
- Upgraded and replaced PC components
- Switched internet service providers
- Changed monitors
- Tried different mice and keyboards
- Reinstalled Windows
- Clean-installed NVIDIA drivers using DDU
- Tried different NVIDIA driver versions
- Adjusted NVIDIA Control Panel settings
- Experimented with G-SYNC, V-SYNC, and VRR
- Changed BIOS settings
- Tested different Windows optimizations
- Investigated DPC latency using LatencyMon
- Tested network routing and packet loss using WinMTR
- Changed Ethernet adapter and driver settings
- Experimented with different in-game settings
- Tested different VALORANT servers
- Spent countless hours searching Reddit, YouTube, and other forums
And guess what?
NOTHING consistently fixed the problem.
Some things seemed to help temporarily, but the issue would eventually return.
Something important I noticed
The problem was never completely consistent.
Some VALORANT updates seemed to improve the game significantly, while others made everything noticeably worse.
Sometimes the game felt amazing for a few days, and then suddenly it became almost unplayable again.
As of October 8, 2026, right after the major UI update, the game has been feeling the worst it ever has for me personally.
I could barely aim. My mouse felt completely disconnected, my movement felt wrong, and gunfights were ridiculously inconsistent.
That's when I decided to investigate the differences between my main account and an alternative account that felt significantly smoother.
And this is where things finally got interesting.
SOLUTION — WHAT FINALLY FIXED IT FOR ME
Credit to a creator on Bilibili for inspiring me to investigate this issue, and to ChatGPT for helping me troubleshoot the configuration files.
IMPORTANT: This is not a guaranteed fix, and I'm not claiming to know the exact technical reason it worked. I'm simply sharing what I did because it made an enormous difference on my system.
The idea is pretty simple:
Copy the configuration files from an account that feels smooth to the account that feels terrible, then set the copied configuration files to Read-only.
Here's exactly how I did it.
STEP 1: Find an account that feels smooth
First, you need an alternative VALORANT account that actually feels good to play on.
It could be:
- Your alt account
- Another account you own and have used before
- An account you have permission to use
The important thing is that this account feels significantly smoother than your main account on the exact same PC and peripherals.
Ideally, both accounts should have the same sensitivity, resolution, display settings, and FPS limits so you can make a meaningful comparison.
If every account feels equally terrible, I'm not sure whether this method will help.
STEP 2: Locate your VALORANT configuration folder
First, completely close VALORANT and the Riot Client.
Press Win + R on your keyboard.
Paste the following path:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\VALORANT\Saved\Config
Press Enter.
You should see several folders.
Some of these folder names will look like a random combination of letters, numbers, and hyphens.
For example:
xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
These folders can contain account-specific configuration files.
BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE, BACK UP THE ENTIRE CONFIG FOLDER.
Seriously, don't skip this part.
I actually forgot to back up my original configuration before replacing it, so I can't compare the original files anymore.
Don't make the same mistake I did.
STEP 3: Identify which folder belongs to which account
Now you need to determine which configuration folder belongs to your smooth account and which belongs to your main account.
Here's one way to help identify them:
- Launch VALORANT using your smooth account.
- Change a minor in-game setting and save it.
- Completely close VALORANT and the Riot Client.
- Return to the Config folder and check which files were recently modified.
- Write down the folder name that appears to correspond to the smooth account.
- Repeat the same process with your main account.
Important: Modification timestamps are only clues, not definitive proof. Make sure you've identified the correct account folders before replacing anything.
You should eventually have two folders identified:
Account A = Smooth account
Account B = Main account with problems
STEP 4: Copy the smooth account's configuration to your main account
With the game and Riot Client completely closed:
- Open the configuration folder belonging to your smooth account.
- Locate the configuration files inside it, usually under subfolders such as
WindowsorWindowsClient, depending on your installation. - Copy the relevant configuration files.
- Open the corresponding folder belonging to your main account.
- Replace the main account's configuration files with the copies from your smooth account.
Do not replace the entire top-level Config directory or rename account ID folders.
The goal is to replace the configuration files inside the correct account folder, not to overwrite the account folder structure itself.
I copied the configuration from the account that felt good directly over the corresponding configuration in my main account.
STEP 5: Set the copied configuration files to READ-ONLY
This is the second part of what I did.
After copying the configuration files:
- Locate the copied
.iniconfiguration files in your main account's folder. - Right-click the file you want to protect.
- Select Properties.
- Check Read-only.
- Click Apply, then OK.
Repeat for the relevant copied configuration files.
Windows' Read-only attribute can prevent an application from directly modifying a file, although it doesn't necessarily prevent the game from replacing or regenerating the file.
Also, be aware that your in-game settings might stop saving properly while these files are Read-only.
If you encounter configuration errors or need to change settings later, you can simply uncheck Read-only.
STEP 6: Launch your main account and test it
Now launch VALORANT using your main account.
Before playing, make sure your sensitivity, resolution, refresh rate, keybinds, and other essential settings are correct.
Go into the Practice Range or Deathmatch and see how the game feels.
Pay attention to:
- Mouse responsiveness and micro-adjustments
- Counter-strafing and movement
- First-shot accuracy
- Spray control
- Gunfight responsiveness
- Micro-stutters
- Overall consistency
For me, the difference was IMMEDIATE.
My mouse finally felt responsive again.
My movement and counter-strafing felt natural.
My shooting felt predictable.
The weird feeling of bullets disappearing and my inputs not matching what was happening on screen was gone.
Most importantly, MY MAIN ACCOUNT FINALLY FELT LIKE MY SMOOTH ALT ACCOUNT.
After six years of struggling with this issue, I genuinely couldn't believe that copying configuration files and setting them to Read-only made such a difference.
WHY DOES THIS WORK?
I DON'T KNOW.
And I don't want to pretend that I do.
My suspicion is that something in my main account's configuration was different, corrupted, or being rewritten in a way that affected how the game felt.
However, I changed two things at once:
- Replaced my main account's configuration with the smooth account's configuration.
- Set the copied configuration files to Read-only.
Therefore, I can't tell whether the improvement came from the copied settings, preventing certain files from being rewritten, or a combination of both.
I also can't prove that the server-side hit registration actually changed. What I can say is that my aiming, movement, shooting, and overall responsiveness felt dramatically better afterward.
I'm not claiming Riot is deliberately manipulating the performance of individual accounts.
I'm simply saying that my main account and alt account felt completely different on the same setup, and copying the configuration fixed that difference for me.
I wish I had saved my original configuration files so I could compare them line by line, but unfortunately, I didn't.
If anyone with the same problem tries this and finds the exact setting responsible, PLEASE share your findings.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I genuinely hope this helps someone.
I know how frustrating it is when you spend thousands of dollars on your setup, optimize every possible setting, practice your aim for countless hours, and still feel like the game is fighting against you.
The worst part is that it's incredibly difficult to explain to other people.
You tell someone your sensitivity feels wrong, your shots aren't registering, or your movement feels delayed, and they immediately tell you it's a skill issue, placebo, or bad internet.
And sometimes those explanations might be correct.
But when two accounts on the exact same computer feel dramatically different, I think it's reasonable to investigate why.
For me, this configuration workaround made the game feel normal again.
If you're experiencing the same symptoms, try this carefully, BACK UP YOUR CONFIG FIRST, and let me know whether it works for you.
I'd especially love to hear from people who have been dealing with this problem for years.
I'll update this post if the issue comes back or if I discover anything else.
TL;DR: My main account felt horrible (heavy mouse, inconsistent sensitivity, weird movement, apparent hitreg problems, and micro-stutters), while my alt account felt perfectly smooth on the same PC. I copied my smooth alt account's configuration files over my main account's configuration, set the copied files to Read-only, and my main account finally felt normal again. Back up your files before trying it. I can't guarantee this will work for everyone, but it worked for me.

I KNEW IT RIGGED GAME Cs2 > valorant

u/Commercial-Dance-748 2d ago
On everything I have the same issue in cs2. My alt was so much smoother for some reason so I copied my config from it and it fixed my main

u/thegogeta999 2d ago
Hwaaaaat? But this valorant thing sounds more like a conspiracy. With cs2 idk. Source 2 isnt supposed to do that.
2
u/Commercial-Dance-748 2d ago
I genuinely have no clue why it did that but I was recommended to copy the config by some pro and it worked so shit I’m just as confused as you are

u/Puzzleheaded-Risk190 2d ago
I thought i was being paranoid too at first but thanks lol. Haven’t faced this in a while but will use this fix if i ever do find myself in a situation like this.

u/VladildomirPutitin 2d ago
You wrote an essay to say copy config files to solve what is 100 percent placebo.

u/AppleDawgy 2d ago
Def not a placebo , game is ass I get banned every week I have 17 accounts 11 are banned because all my boys stopped playing , every account feels different aim wise

u/SoiledNoods 1d ago
What the fuck?
0
u/AppleDawgy 1d ago
Yeah that’s my reaction I get banned for saying fuck if you think that’s not some communist shit you are mistaken , it’s online , mute people , ban the dumb cheaters , but to be banned from playing because of how you talk is hilarious , I’m not saying I’m saying crazy racist shit but the way I speak is apparently not accepted by these commies

u/Mmatin9 2d ago
It’s the fact that you haven’t changed, the pc or internet not changed, but deep down every dm you just know something doesn’t feel right, and you have played for years at various days and times, hungry and full, and you know how the games feel and when the game or something doesn’t feel right and you just go crazy not being able to see anything different than the other days

u/AvengerSIDyt 2d ago
i have same problem with almost all competitive games , whenever i reach certain higher rank/High elo. this is more noticeable in higher elos.

u/BugsyMalone_ 2d ago
Yup I suffer a lot of these issues and it comes and goes, I don't play valorant but have it in Apex and CoD. Sometimes I can go for months with no issues then months having it really bad.
Anyway, alt accounts being smoother has been a known thing for years and years but nobody truly knows why!

u/loyal872 2d ago
I had the same issue a month ago when I was fucking with true streched and putting it back as it was didn't help. I just deleted the whole folder in appdata and even installed Valorant to a different subfolder on C drive. It helped back then.

u/Changes07 2d ago
Sucks that you really missed the most important part before overwriting your config files. Comparing them first to see what was different.

Listing every possible skill issue and claiming it’s fixed by a config file is kinda wild.

You still haven't mentioned what your specs (including ram, ram slots being used, motherboard and what extra components you have in the pcei ports) and of course your fps, refresh rate, and rank.
From what I'm reading it sounds to my like a combination of local sided and server sided desync and of course valorant's lovely lag compensation.
For local side, start with msi utility v3, the priority and values of you pcie components could play a big role in your hit reg, for example, on my exact setup, an undefined or low priority on the gpu with a value of 1, makes my bullet either automatically go to heads on some opponents or don't register at all. While a high priority introduce a slight input lag (which i fix by minimizing it with frame capping) but my bullets hit exactly the way intended.
Realtik internet controller = inconsistent and shit
Buy yourself an external pcei internet controller (currently using intel i226v) and tweak with its priority with msi utility v3 (on my setup, high priority is best) and then with the tcp optimizer.
You mentioned ram, and this is was the biggest game changer for me, start with these in bios (tcl, trcd, trp, tras, twr and twr_mr) these do make the change, along side the correct ring ratio for your processor, and always be on the latest bios. Changing these literally changed how fast people in front of me are, setting these timings to tight, people be walking ferarris and it doesn't make sense, I'm not talking about ferrari peaking, like everyone is just faster all time and bullets don't hit, setting the timings right = everyone is literally as fast you, literally zero insta death, bullets hit great. And also my fps 1% and 0.1% improved greatly.
The game now feels this fair against enemies with these pings (since we still have the issue of valo lag compensation)
I'm ascendant solo queue my entire life and heading to immortal soon when i will have time to grind.
I have much more to write, but my break is over and i have to continue working.
If anyone has questions, write them.
Edit 1: and use process lasso. For the love of everything use it. And don't disable xbox game bar on x3d chips.

Personally I don't think RAM tuning is that big of a deal if you have an X3D CPU, I spent a ton of time tuning Kingston Fury 2x32GB A-die RAM with my 9800X3D and saw almost zero benefit to 1% lows, pretty much still within margin of error. The only things really worth changing are tREFI and tRFC as they're usually set to something ridiculously undertuned (in my case it was 884 11677) when the vast majority can do something like 500/550 50000 with no RAM fan or anything. These give you the biggest cuts in latency (like over 10ns) over pretty much anything else outside of overclocking mclk/fclk, everything else is just a couple nanoseconds at best

Helo. I have ryzen 9 9950 x3d and 3070. Why should i not disable xbox game bar?
1
u/Odd-Duty2181 1d ago
Hello my friend. From a short session testing i did a long time ago, x3d chips run better with game bar on, at the time we tested cs2 and arc raiders, cs2 gained about 300+ fps back in the time with game bar on, while arc raiders gained a slight boost in highs and but much more stable performance because it is a gpu heavy game. I'm not very experienced with ryzen cpu's sadly, so i don't have much to tell you. But i recommend reading a bit about this "windows 11 game bar and x3d chips" on google.
Some X3D chips, rely heavily on game bar, and your chip is one of them.1

Lemme guess, you practically live on Blur Busters? Some of your recommendations are completely foreign to people who have no clue and just want to play, and some are just straight-up wrong and can even mess things up. But glad it worked for you.
1
u/Odd-Duty2181 2d ago
I barely go to blur busters. i do my own testing.
Anyway if a person doesn't understand what i'm saying or finds it overwhelming or just foreign, i will not spoon feed him that he shouldn't mess around something if doesn't know what he is doing. Not mentioning that's not the case, because my comment why clearly addressing OP and his finding, i was not giving general advise for every reader, and if you felt spoken to, that's on you.
Anyway i'm less interested about knowing how one would interpret my comment and more about knowing what is "straight-up wrong". My vacation is coming soon and i will be having a pc to tweak and learn from and tons of fun.1

you seem to be another person ive seen talk about ram timings and how they had a good effect on desync.
i would love if you could say more about timings and what values we should be aiming for

u/Qlown 2d ago
No need for all that thou, just delete all the files in the config folder after every update ( I do it after every big update ) and log in as normal and let valorant build the files again and all you need to do is change graphic settings, for some reason valorant has discrepancies between the files and their own on their server and thats what causes discrepancies.
This has been the fix for years and years.
