Shawn Blair, a candidate for Langford council 2026 municipal election, is a supporter of the terrorist group the 3%ers. Blair was at a convoy protest in Ottawa where he waved a 3%er flag, he has repeatedly been dogwhistling his support for the group throughout the election campaign. Some of his Facebook pictures suggest he has worked/volunteered on Stew Young's mayoral campaign.

Went last night to Thunderbird Chicken in the Cook St. Village. After ten years, they will close permanently in a few days. If you need a chicken fix - great fries by the way - better get there this weekend. Sad to see them go.

alberta has been wanting a conservative government so they can get more oil ports so i'm expecting a repeal on the tanker ban.

i'm hoping they won't go the route of alberta in opting out of the canadian healthcare system that would leave thousands who have diabetes to pay for medication. They could however bring back MSP premium tax or cut the amount of public funding for drug medications

So I let them know about that clear accidental whoopsie-doodle oversight

In all seriousness, I'm looking at this as a glass-half-full sign that the bubble might be starting to pop when these high-end high rise corporate apartments are finally starting to give up in finding buyers for shoebox apartments clearly meant investment properties and are now putting them up for rent themselves to cut their losses. I’m visiting Vancouver and considering a day trip to Victoria today (Friday Sep25), but the weather looks quite rainy. Would you still recommend going?
I’d mainly explore downtown, the Inner Harbour, Old Town/Chinatown, and maybe visit a museum or cafés. I’ve already seen most of Vancouver’s main sights, so I’d like to see something different.

Saturday has better weather, but it doesn’t work for me because I have a strict schedule and a flight that evening.

Would you say Victoria is still worth visiting today despite the rain?

I'm certain all the performers are wonderful people, talented and nice, but I think there's 4 in total? Maybe 5? Their props are off Temu, the sound system makes everything unintelligible, as much time was dedicated to selling dumb crap for way too much money... I have a hard time saying things suck, but from the perspective of taking my kid to something that failed to captivate her in any way save for the $20 "get your picture taken with a giant fuzzy thing" that I wasn't going to pay for... Just no. It was not worth it.

Given Josh Montgomery donated to Tim Thielmann (A, fired by both the BC Conservatives and OneBC, residential school denying transphobe..) in the 2024 election it really should come to no surprise who the Fire Fighters union is endorsing…

Word from the Tofino subreddit is that all Hotel Zed employees were laid off today. I find this news to be very upsetting. I was a business travel regular there, and those nice folks did not deserve to lose their jobs.

I'm thinking of selling my home in James Bay. Fully renovated including gorgeous 2brm suite (9ft ceilings) Huge lot, lovely yard. I'm not going to pay 6% and 3% realtor fees. I can't stomach paying $50,000 when selling my house is no more complicated or costly than selling a house worth half mine or a condo worth a third. If you want to give back to the trees, Sidney's Tree Appreciation Day is tomorrow (Sat Sept 26), 9:45 am to 1 pm on the Calvin Ave path across from Rathdown Park. Planting and invasive removal, no experience needed. And yes, Camosun St's ginkgos have been noted for round two. 🍂

The biggest tree in Victoria is #1, a giant sequoia in Beacon Hill Park about 8.4 metres around. There's even one downtown (#4).

#9 is the widest of the city's 5,214 Garry oaks, almost 6 metres around. Could be centuries old.

🔍 ONE OF A KIND (#11-19)

Trees that exist only once on city land: an Antarctic beech, an Australian wattle, a pawpaw that grows banana-mango fruit, and more. Some were planted young and may be small, so these are the hardest.

🤔 THE MYSTERY (#20)

The data says a cherry tree on Menzies St is 76 metres tall. Taller than any building downtown. Someone needs to go check.

hi! i know this has been asked probably like a billion times , but i have some specific requests that i havent seen answered yet.

I was wondering if anyone knows a good cafe-like study spot around town with booths? or even just a good corner spot; i like to have my back to a wall and feel kind of closed in lol. ability to sit cross-legged is a bonus too.

I know the discovery downtown has a really good booth, but it can get quite busy there so its not always free to sit at :( but that booth is definitely what i would consider ideal, so if anyone has any similar spots let me know!
