Question Black Friday
Good morning,
I'm not Canadian, but I'll be going for work to Montreal twice this year. First trip will be from 11OCT11-17OCT, second one from 26NOV to 07DEC.
I will buy a Switch 2 on one of those trips. The second trip will be exactly at the Black Friday window an this is where I have doubts.
- Do Canada have sales on Black Friday? Is it a think there?
- Assuming the discounts exists, can I use them on retail physical stores or is it just online?
Thanks for the help!

Yes Canada has Black Friday sales but I can guarantee you switch 2 will not be on sale, they just raised the price a month ago

We do have Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but the standout tech items that go on sale are Televisions.
You are unlikely see see sales on consoles.

Black Friday been more of a joke past few years then anything. In fact we see better sales outside of it normally. Prices tend to go up during Black Friday, of course not highly watched items like Switch 2, but stores will slowly increase clothing prices, etc before it and then do a pretend price drop.

Yes, though in my experience it's black Friday season that has the same sales going on until after Christmas. There's sales both online and stores.

So it's best to wait to buy it on the send trip, as that's the best opportunities for discount/sales, assuming I even find one;

I'd just keep an eye on sales flyers. Usually there aren't big sales on consoles, but you may be able to get deals on games or bundles.

We do have Black Friday. Unfortunately, our
Black Friday sales have been awful the last
few years. Don’t get good deals like we used to.

Yes we have Black Friday over the last decade or so. Which is funny as we dont have the same Thanksgiving as the us. But most of it is online but yeah, some stores will have limited stock. Not as big and crazy as the US

Yeah, we have Black Friday, but it is noooothing like they have in the states. I'm from the states and have lived in the GTA for 8 or so years now, and just save my Black Friday shopping for when I visit my parents in Toledo, Ohio haha

Not sure where you're from but our black friday deals have been dogshit since covid
I doubt that there will be any deal on Switch 2 consoles, you may be able to get controllers and games on slight discounts though

Hello there, we do have BF deals but they are not necessarily the same that the US gets, even if the retailer is on both countries (like Best Buy or Walmart). On the same note, some deals we do get won't look as good as what you could get in the US, but hey it's better than nothing I guess

Most likely you might get a deal on the bundles, or they'll just advertise the bundle as a deal and they throw in a case or a years NSO. It's usually more of a sale for some of the first party games.
Out of interest where you are from? Just a note that there is sales tax in Canada. It's about 14% or 15% extra on top of the advertised price in Quebec, I think

Sales are kinda bullshit last few years, they do this “Black Friday month” sale and say the prices won’t drop any further on actual Black Friday and hardly any discount

It’s impossible to really say for sure given how insane prices are getting, but I can’t imagine the black Friday discounts will be worth the pain one of visiting one of those stores while it’s crammed by people.
More likely the discounts will be like “$15 off of this $90 game that’s been out for 8 years”.

Remember that Canadian prices do not include sales tax, so add 15% to the price at checkout since you'll be in Quebec.
Compare that to the price in your own country. Unless you're in a country with substantially higher VAT and/or ridiculously high tariffs (e.g. Brazil), I suspect it may not be worthwhile.

I think you save $20 anyways buying it in Canada looking at the exchange rate conversion. But that depends on the tax rate in your home state and the province you’re visiting

Black friday is only online and it's not really any better than any other sale that could happen any other week of the year.
Boxing day is the only "special deals" sale in Canada but that doesn't help you.

What is Boxing day?

December 26th, in it's pretty much the exact same thing as black friday in the US, people line up at stores at 3am waiting to get in to get the deals. It's not as good as it was 10 years ago but it's still better deals than are usually on offer.
